Felder is pure class. A scary beast competing close to the top of the UFC in his weight class for years. Now he's taking on triathlons and is already very knowledgeable about them and super humble about his abilities. Doing a half iron for your first triathlon takes big balls which he clearly has. But he's totally realistic about the big gap between competing in triathlon as a pro and an amateur.

Ive always needed a future event as a target for motivation. For us amateurs, it’s broken down to five year age groups. The ultimate goal is to “podium” (top 3 placing within your age group). Pick a destination event and the training will take the requisite shape. Land on the podium, and you get to Hawaii! It’s just like Crank Yankers, “I want to go to Hawaii !!!” for the IM World Championships.

  • @JoshTheSonOfBethIsaacs

MMA past 13 years, Triathlons past 8 years. Fought/trained MMA and competed tri's simultaneously for 7 years. Took a Lil time off fighting last year. But still loving both. They transfer very nicely to eachother. I compete in about 18 Sprint triathlons a year (8 month season). Ultra marathons etc, but MMA is my base/origin. Really helps with cutting weight for fights, lol. Little over a year ago. I did a 208 mi event, then week later had a triathlon, week later MMA fight, week later National tri Championships and so on. I compete nonstop. This Saturday will be my 3rd week in row triathlon. Now Im competing not just doing them. Hit 7 x 1st places last year in my AG. Podium almost every race at the least. Almost won an overall (2nd place on 2nd day) when I did 2 races back to back Sat n Sun. I must say the Tri community welcomes fighters. They will announce your an MMA triathlete upon calling you for award. I also compete in many other type events. Love it! MMA is still a beast all on its own but everything helps everything when boil down to it. I plan on fighting again this year along with everything else. Multi Sport National championships are in a couple weeks Dallas. It's on!! One day I will be able to help guide/advise others whom do the same. It's a diff life to live that's for sure, but surely living life!
SideNote: Sprint Triathlons are typically Swim 400-1000m, Bike 10-20+ miles, Run 5k. The best do them a Lil under an hour. If your an average competitor the finish time is more like 1hr30min. And it's all Anaerobic as in ZONE 5. (HR 170+)
Now us Sprint athletes train distantces as though we're doing a 70.3 IM.
Higher level Sprint triathletes usually train : Run 100+mi/month... Bike 2-400mi/mo....Swim 20+ mi/mo. Kinda like MMA. If you have 3 round fight then you train for atleast 9 rounds minimal.

From a psychoanalytical view it seems your comment has more to do about yourself than me. FYI.
I am a rather humble dude. I'm no way near these dudes level in MMA and I'm no pro at triathlons. Still working thy way up there. Definitely not easy due to some of these guys have natural abilities and are just on a phenomenal level which is amazing and leaves me in utter awe. As for the all about me comment. Actually quite the opposite sir. That was sharing data so that others know it's attainable even for ameatures like myself. In aim to possibly motivate another to try this path. As well as give somewhat more accurate data on sprint tri times and distances. Fighters and triathletes are very cerebral. We all love to share data for others so that it may help one another due to that we ALL are more in competition with ourselves rather than others ultimately. We're all in this together brother. I did a double ironman and then last year did a Triple ironman. Have friends who has done 5 times and others who have done Deca 10 times - These were continues events, and 1 a day for x days. . There is more mad people out their than Goggin’s, who just don't want to be on social media telling people they are lazy and fat, as they do it for themself. To race an Ironman and be competitive is different to just tuning up and completing it, most people could do that in the 17hrs window with little training. Many people would eat goggin up for breakfast. But I do like the guy for what he is trying to share and not worry about what people think. Lionel is a legend he knows pain and deals with it very well, suspect his past makes him this way.

The running not so much because I'm around 180 pounds sometimes, and the best I can probably hope for is 170. People don't realize that. The reason why the kenyan marathon runner loves to run is because he's only 130 pounds or something. It's very comfortable with no impact. I crush on the bicycle. that's easy because I'm built for it. That's good pain, along with swimming. That's purposeful pain that is just as painful if not more painful than any other pain. 5K > marathon > Iron-Man

    • @jlafren42
      @jlafren42 Год назад +2

depends on how fast you do them. just because its longer distance doesn't make it better. BTW I've done them all. IMO running a fast marathon "hurts" you the most.. Usually in the marathon within an IM...you aren't running fast enough to do the damage that you do in an open marathon... this is specific to most age groupers.. pro's run the 26.2 very fast...so for them IM likely hurts > open marathon. I've run

Jay, cab I ask you for a bit of advice ??
      I train 5 or 6 days a week.
I want to do my first triathlon (Ironamm cork) 19 months from now.
My 10km time is about 50 mins. Yes, slow, but that's without pushing myself, just jogging.
Right now I can do a marathon, though slowly.
My goal is to do ironman cork August 2025, 19 months from now.
I plan to build a large base fitness and then the last 12 weeks, do speed workouts.
Do you think it's possible to break 12 hrs if I train hard/smart.
