    I think even though you we're used to hiking big miles at the end of your thru hike on the AT, you should have started out more slowly with this hike. 8 mile days tops.. Got to break those feet in again slowly. Great video. So beautiful there and the frog concert was awesome!

    Just love that whole area...the foothills trail is magnificent! So terribly sorry you are experiencing the foot pain. I attempted to reply to your reply but I believe it was lost in cyberspace😳. I mentioned that you might want to get a new footbed for your Altras. I went to Foot Solutions over in Mauldin.They make custom orthotics and have special inserts and etc. They have the capability to tell the pressure points on the bottom of your feet(hi tech machine).They might be able to help you, as they really helped me with my foot pain.After spending an hour checking my feet out and trying different inserts and shoes, I bought a pair of their inserts that literally cured the pain that I was experiencing in the balls of my feet. I use the inserts every day ..just put them in whatever shoe I am wearing. The inserts are light years ahead of superfeet etc.Thanks for this beautiful video..sure do miss being out there.Good luck with the feet!

      Thanks for the idea. I think my Altras will be retired to day hikes from now on. They just arent padded enough for my feet on multi day hikes. I do use insoles inside them and my Hokas. Just Dr Scholls, not custom ones. May have to go that route though. One foot is still swollen from the December hike today in two places. I can only wear my hokas completely unlaced. I haven’t been able to wear my regular shoes since the AT.

      The inserts I got are very padded plus they give great support..the Dr Scholl's have very little padding in comparison

    14.7 miles on sore feet! What a day! 😮 I hope you can get those fixed.
    Those frogs were hilarious 😂 I thought it was turkeys at first, too, then thought maybe some sort of smaller ground nesting birds like grouse. But nope....frogs 🐸

    Between your two current docutrails this one sings to me. I love how you focus on the trail and share your experiences. Recently I made my shelter system decision. My entire hiking years have been with any number of tent styles, some actually homemade. But returning from my trail hiatus I've chosen to hammock. As I watched your section along the lake (30 mile section) I could visualize my hammock in "porch mode" and actually chillin for a few days. In other words hiking less about the goal or destination and learning to experience the moment in a different frame of mind. These days I no longer must rush through a trail experience to return to frenetic "crisis" meetings with endless hours of coordination. Thank you for "hiking your hike" (from eerie frogs in a vernal pool to sore feet) and inspiring another's new outdoor chapter. You inspire by making a difference

      Thank you so much. I like the way you think. Enjoy the trail. There are a lot of great hammock spots on the Foothills Trail. I haven’t tried hammock camping yet.

      As the Silver years have crept upon I decided it was time for an adaptation. One can carry differently as the journey is. Perhaps slack packing from base ;-) Besides...I have boney hips and always will...ha!@@hikingmovie

    Beautiful. Thanks for sharing, this and your other videos. (Your Palmetto Passage videos were very helpful.) A bizzillion stairs, no? Fun seeing all the end of days videos. Much appreciated.

      Thank you! Yes so many steps on the Foothills. Most of it, just like the AT. Glad the Palmetto Trail videos are helpful. Will be out updating some of them this year. Actually really wanting to hike the whole Palmetto Trail again.

    Great way to start your second day with a Fresh Ground breakfast. It took a year for the nerve damage to grow out of my feet after the AT thru hike. You did good getting in 14.7 on day 2.

      Oh no! That is a long time. I have so many hikes I want to do this year.

    Such great photos in your opening montage. I'm told Heartbreak Ridge is a little easier going westbound. You've done it both ways; what do you think?

    • @hikingmovie
      @hikingmovie  9 месяцев назад +1

      I am a bad one to ask because I like going up rather than steep downs. I think you probably have a similar number of stairs on both ends and a similar gain but the steps going down are straight down and sketchy going this way. They are straight up and sketchy going the other direction.

      It was so cold. I didn’t expect to see frogs. They really sounded like turkeys which I do see on the trail.

    My hiking buddies have done the FHT. I have it on my bucket lists. Plan to visit Burrells Ford campground soon.

      That is a really nice campsite with parking and a pit toilet. really beautiful if you walk down to the river or get one of the campsites on the river. They have bear cables there too. I love the part of the trail just beyond Burrells Ford going toward Oconee State Park along the river. Lots of great campsites there too.

      @hikingmovie My buddy plans to fish at a campsite that 2 1/2 in from Burrells Ford Campground. We'll go as soon as the weather permits.

    Great video like always! I see that you got to meet mama bear and little bear 🥰 I will be following their journey this year.
    Have you consider doing the PCT or any other long distance hike?

    • @hikingmovie
      @hikingmovie  9 месяцев назад +1

      I am following them too this year. I didn’t actually meet them. I just caught them briefly on my video as I was getting on trail. They started the day before I did and I guess got behind me the second day so I never crossed paths with them again.
      Would love to do another long hike. Not sure if I can leave home long enough to do a long thru hike though. Trinity and Heisenberg, that I hiked with, are doing the PCT southbound this year. Hoping I can join them for part of it.

      @@hikingmovie I totally understand, leaving for 6 or 7 months is not an easy thing or doable for most of us; hope you are able to hike a least a section with them, that would be amazing 🥰

    Why do you think your pack is heavier? Is it a new pack?

    • @hikingmovie
      @hikingmovie  9 месяцев назад

      No it is the same pack with less gear in it. Actually lighter. I just haven’t carried a pack up a mountain in awhile.

    Frogs in December????? Wow

      @hikingmovie  9 месяцев назад

      It was dropping down to freezing or below at night and wasn’t much above that when I saw the frogs. They were just in that one pond. I wonder if it was a hot spring?

      @@hikingmovie They were very animated and singing like they were mating or something very interesting. Here in Ohio, the frogs are deep in the mud, snoozing. They did sound like Turkeys.
