  • Now that Raspberry Pi's are more widely available, including the release of the Raspberry Pi 5. I though it would be a great time to make an ultimate Raspberry Pi server with Docker and Docker Compose.
    In this video we will be using a Raspberry Pi 4. Although the Pi 4 is over 4 years old, it continues to be an affordable, power efficient computer, and we can use it to run personal cloud services that can protect our privacy while continuing to give us convenient access to our data.
    Some of the services we plan to explore in this series are:
    Portainer
    Pi-Hole
    Home Assistant
    Nextcloud
    ... and so much more!
    please stay tune as i have a couple of videos on the pipeline

    The prompt terminal in Windows 10 & 11 supports direct SSH connections for some time already. No need for Putty unless you need it for specific regular connections with other fancy options.

    the regular cmd program allows you to ssh too. no need for fancy programs like putty. I do it all the time for my little sbcs.

    I was following along with this install, but my 'neofetch' did not install. Is there a command that was left out? Maybe because its a common command?. I'm new to linux and would like a documentation of the commands used to setup this server.

      yes i left out neofetch installation command. to intall it on the terminal run "sudo apt install neofetch"

    When you cant eject an sdcard I'd recommend at least doing a 'sudo stnc' before manual ejection.

    Issue is with static ip specially in India . My ISP assign an ip to large pool of customers 😂and Only provide static ip to bussiness connections 😢

    • @codefallacy
      @codefallacy  9 месяцев назад +5

      yeah to get a static ip it can cost extra money, but you may be able to get around it with duckDNS check out my wireguard vpn video, and see if it helps ruclips.net/video/3VPtSRVybA8/видео.html if this doesnt work for you, you may be able to use clouflare tunnels, its free and doesnt require you to do port forwarding

    Hi is there a difference between "Docker Compose" and "Stacks" in portainer?

    • @codefallacy
      @codefallacy  6 месяцев назад

      hey, i think they achieve similar goals but i dont know. i prefer to use docker compose because i find it easier to write the configuration file, or copy paste it from the internet than using portainers user interface. i think its more overwhelming. and i say this as someone who tries to avoid using the terminal

    • @roystervi
      @roystervi 6 месяцев назад

      @codefallacy OK, thanks. l use the stacks in portainer because l just copy and paste the code and edit easily in yaml style vs. editing in a common line. Again, thanks for the information, and I was wondering if one is better than the other or has benefits

    Portainer vs Casa OS ???

    • @codefallacy
      @codefallacy  9 месяцев назад

      they accomplish the same goals but are sightly different. CasaOS is meant to be a modern and beutiful NAS operating system, while Portainer is an orchestrator, it allows you to create/manage containers. because of this differece you can install casaos and run portainer on top of it

    • @Arctics04
      @Arctics04 9 месяцев назад

      @@codefallacy thx for the quick reply. I watched another vid that showed how to install Portainer on CasaOS. Do you know how to export my Pi-Hole config to Cosa OS without losing my config. My Pi-hole is currently running and idk if I have to disable my pis as a dns server first or I should install CasaOS first?

    • @codefallacy
      @codefallacy  9 месяцев назад

      @@Arctics04hmmm. good question. are you using the Pi's ip address as the address for PiHole? or did you create a seperate ip for the container? before you do anything remove pihole dns from your router so you dont loose internet access lol. if you are using the Raspberry pi's ip address for pihole then installing casaos my lead to some issues since they will both try to use port 80. if the pihole container has its own ip address then the container should be unaffected
