It’s a lovely bothy - I once carried in 10 kg of coal and spent a memorable few days at this bothy during winter (which I won’t name here out of respect for your wishes). I cooked a haggis, tatties, neeps and a leek on the fire and read ‘Kidnapped’ by Robert Louis Stephenson beside it. But the prize for best MBA bothy in terms of the building itself must go to that Rolls Royce of bothies, Ruigh Aiteachain in Glen Feshie (Eastern Highlands). Ranked on location, for me it’d be a toss-up between Kearvaig, near Cape Wrath, Oban at the head of Loch Morar and the two bothies on the Isle of Rum, Dibidil and Guirdil, though there are other close contenders.
Thanks for the suggestions. I know of all of them and have them pinned, back up in Scotland in a few weeks so might visit one of them! I will say though there was barely a cobweb in sight at this one, so clean! Wish they were all like this!
What a lovely video. I’ve never stayed in a bothy although have stopped in one for a break whilst out hiking. Thinking an overnight bothy is next on my list. Loved to hear about the original owners of the cottage. 👍👍👍👍
Ive stayed in so called 3 star hotels not as clean and tidy as the bothy.. What a cracking place for it too, and nice to see that thankyou letter from a family member .. Fingers crossed no scrouts deface the panelled walls.. but byEck that gorge looked a,bit cold 😁 Your WHW trip was not a fail by any means, as look at where youve been whilst Ooop north 🏴😁👍 Thats a Win in my book.. Takecare, great video and hope your knee gets sorted, properly. 😁
Thanks Mike! Knee still giving me jip unfortunately but hopefully it will heal in time. I wouldve stayed in the water a lot longer if it weren't for the blumin midges! And yep definitely beats some hotels I've stayed in for sure! 😊
@Wild.cat.adventures reminded me of an Alpine hut inside, half expected a sauna room . Doing the AKW affric kintail way in a few weeks and I bet the bothy on route is not a patch on that one 😁 It's just a shame a minority of folk leave them in a mess or worse.. Catch you on the next one. Fingers crossed the sun comes out 😁
@@hikermikem8 Walked that earlier this year. I was told en route that the YH a few km short of that bothy does allow people to use facilities (shower, common room) for a reduced fee. If you've a tent though, there's some lovely camping. Pop in to the diner by the bus stop at the end for some good food.
Hi Cat.. Nice to see you again. Wow that Bothy is awesome. Looks like you had fun and your right bothies should be looked after as they provide not only shelter from bad weather but a form of over night sleeping for many wild campers. Your camera work is excellent as you make us see how life once was for those hill farmers that had flocks of Sheep they took to markets and used hills for grazing. Ticks are a worry but if you tuck your trousers into your socks then no worry of them attacking your legs. Food you cook well looks so tasty but have you tried my 2 fruit pancakes yet?... Regards Mick,,,,,, Chef-on-the-wild-side ,,,,,,, X
Think I prefer cooking on camp to cooking at home lol! How do u do your 2 fruit pancakes? It's hard to imagine how tough life was back then but I thoroughly enjoyed myself and will definitely be back if I'm up in the area! 😊
what hey loverly bothy kat and it was spotless aswell i think that is the best one up to now have seen even other peoples video,s good to see your back with another great video as all ways peace from west lancishire 👍🤟
Rabbi Burns would be well proud of you Cat with that little poem of yours Haha. Looking forward to your latest adventure. Many blessings from Me. Ps .What drone do you use? As I bought cheap ones till I build up my pilot skills, ready for a dji or something. Love out from Scotland
John d burns actually got in touch with me after this vid lol! I've got the dji mini 3, I think the 4 has just come out. I recommend a proper handset, the 3 has more avoidance sensors than the 2 👍
@@Wild.cat.adventures a bit better ;) it rained last night/ a bit weird for a Portuguese summer, apart from that its been sunny days and so i can enjoy my favourite wild rivers for a swim,a bit of exploration and camping too
Great video 😊 I'm neil from lesmahagow, there is a old building on a hiking route up here! The old building no roof or windows! I was hoping to fix it up and turn it into a bothy! How would I go about that kat or if anyone knows please help
You would need to approach the landowners (u can look on land registry to find them). You could ask the MBA for help if the landowner agrees or DIY it. Hope u get permission, let me kno how u get on!
Interesting, I've looked it up and you're exactly right! Even more interesting is it's a symbiotic relationship between a fungus and lichen! Thank you 👍
omg and you still went into the water with your shades on your head lest you didn't lose them ones 🤣🤣, you have a bad knee too cold water help it , hope its a wee bit better know 😎my finger bit bigger then yours lol
Hey Cat, nice video 👍 not a bothy dweller myself as one never knows who else is going to rock up. I've heard of horror stories about people turning up whose social skills are not the best. Stay safe atb Taff 🤠👊
Cheers taff! I actually went back 2 days later with my mates and even on a Saturday night we had it to ourselves. I highly recommend a bothy if you've not tried and often meeting random people is all part of the fun!
Heyy, it's Ishan from The Bothy Project. I am so glad to see the stamp is still there. Hope you collected them all.
Hey! I love a long way from Scotland so don't get up there as much as I'd like to collect them all. Great project tho, thank you!
Would you please tell us about the exact location would love to go

The 'ash' looks like it maybe 'Dog Lichen' very common in the west, Devon/Cornwall, Wales and in Scotland, not so much elsewhere.
