- In June of 2006 during the Grande Prairie race meet Mark has a potentially deadly crash. The footage was caught by the Gemini nominated series Half Mile of Hell. While the outcome was better than anyone watching could have expected, it still looked horific. All horses and competitors were fine and the outcome allowed everyone involved, horse and cowboys, to race another day. Check out more videos at www.sutherlandracing.ca
Imagine thinking it's a good idea to have your ambulance siren on as you're pulling up to a bunch of panicking horses.
A friend and his dad both had this happen to them, at the same race a few years apart. Neither will ever be the same again, though the dad has a much more significant TBI than my friend does. His emotional state and the PTSD have made him a completely different person. It's sad to see such amazing guys suffer so much for something they loved!

Watching these guys compete at the Calgary Stampede every year is da bomb!! I always go for Captain Kirk Sutherland. Thank God you're alive Mark.. That was holy S*it moment of the century.
The wagons have long pegs sticking out from the wheels, why exactly? Mark's wagon go clipped by the guy on the inside, no big deal, except that all this equipment seems designed to fuck up.
Those are not pegs, they are the wheel hubs. Wheel hubs connect the wheel to the axle and the spokes on the wheel connect to the hub.

Guy should have put some of that good ol’ Calgary Stampede pancake batter on his Chuck wagon. He wouldn’t have fallen off.

I think you forgot the most brutal 8seconds in sport. Nothing is more dangerous then hopping on a 1200+ lb bull with horns strong enough to puncture steel plates?
