See the Mario Sunshine movement behaviour and it's mechanics are virtually perfect in response to people's reaction moments so you can easily slip up in these platform areas. I experienced this a couple months ago myself

to be fair to ame. the 3d all stars on switch is a pretty bugger version of sunshine. none of her deaths were due to bugs tho... she kept spamming the jump button when she should be more intentional with her button presses. and properly aligning her camera so her directions are more in line with orientation of the level design... since she kept angling the camera diagonally and pressing in a cardinal direction which guarantees jumping off. And I'm pretty sure she's not aware of the more advanced moves like the long jump and 180 jump which would helped her. But you don't really need them.
Man, I haven't played Super Mario Sunshine in almost 11 years. Ame never remembered to not rush her movements and jump randomly/walk over the wheels. I don't think platformers are really her thing. Much love to her, though!
