    If you have a question about a play, adding a timestamp (MM:SS format) makes a huge difference in our ability to respond.

    Great vid fellas. Regarding the after-the-horn technical on Bonus play 2, if you call it, then you have to report it don't you? In Colorado, they keep tech stats by team and player even. And you have to fill out the T paperwork. And if it's the player's second T of the game, he will be DQ'd from the next one. I say if you T him up, you have to do all the paperwork as well (figurative and literal). What say you Greg and Andrew?

      Adding on to this… when that technical is called, the game clock had already expired. As such, this is the end of the game aka an “intermission”, meaning all Players have now become Bench Personnel.
      I think you know where I’m going with this. That’s right.. an Indirect Technical Foul assessed on the Head Coach as well. So now you’ve run the risk of the Head Coach receiving their 3rd combination of direct & indirect technical fouls which would result in them being disqualified & ejected from the game!
      Maybe it’s a harsh reality of our responsibilities to officiate by the book, or maybe it’s a case of “if it wasn’t loud & obvious enough for everyone to hear it, then it never happened” …I’ll leave that decision up to you.

    ITS THAT TIME OF THE YEAR. Video a little fuzzy at times, but depending on history of the game for this game, looks like I would go with a double foul, to help manage both teams to calm down and keep both of these guys calm for no more shinanigans.

    I was under the impression listening to you that the jump ball ends when the ball hits the floor after a jumper touches the ball. If thats the case why would it be a violation if both jumpers tip at the same time and it hits the ground if one of them grabs and start dribbling?

    With regards to a ball being within the cylinder for the sake of Basket Interference, is the edge of the ball breaking the plane of the cylinder adequate?
    The Rulebook doesn’t clarify this, and so I’m left to believe it likely is adequate, since the same holds true with breaking the plane of out of bounds, back court, verticality, the restraining circles, etc.
    It seems to me that the spirit of the rules, if not otherwise specified, leads us to this understanding, but I’d love your input on this.

      Yes. The edge would be enough by rule.

    Question/comment on bonus play 1. What if the in bounds player had jumped in the air to catch the throw in, then landed out of bounds, all within the 5 second time allotment. What that be a legal play?

    • @bradleyrehwaldt777
      @bradleyrehwaldt777 10 месяцев назад

      No, because once the intial throw-in became live, the player’s location will be from where they last touched the floor, and for a throw-in anywhere along the end line after a made goal a pass out of bounds along the end line needs to be caught by a teammate already
      out of bounds.

      @@bradleyrehwaldt777 Thanks, I kinda thought that was the case.

    Bonus 2: It is understandable that 43 is upset. The offensive player bulldozed him all the way from one side of the lane to the other with no whistle, like he's Shaq. Why no discussion about this in the video?

    01:00 YMTC
    I’m placing ‘picking up a player, carrying them 4 steps, and then forcefully releasing them towards the ground’ in the same category as fighting.
    Flagrant Foul on Blue (cannot see his number). This goes a little beyond an intentional foul for me.

    • @OpaTheOpenminded
      @OpaTheOpenminded Год назад

      I’ve now made it to the end of the video, and as we re-examine YMTC, I have become aware that White was clamping onto Blue’s arm, as opposed to Blue picking up and carrying White. This certainly changes things.
      With this new bit of information, I would rule a Double Intentional Foul. It is contact which clearly persists away from the ball and these players are no longer involved in a play as it continues. It is certainly excessive, and for what it’s worth, I now actually feel bad for Blue knowing that his arm is clamped and he almost has to throw the player to get him to release the clamp.
      Additionally, prior to the fouls occurring, you can see as the ball becomes loose on the floor, White momentarily squeezes his heels together, intentionally contacting the ball with his feet in an attempt to secure the loose ball. This intentional touching of the ball with his feet would warrant a kick ball violation prior to the fouls occurring.

    On play 4--Isn't a ball always on a downward flight after it hits the backboard? I have goaltending here.

      Not a factor using NFHS rules. NBA & NCAA-M yes.

    Play 4: Basket interference. Basket interference applies when ANY part of the ball is within the imaginary cylinder above the basket.
