I think it depends on what you are currently using. This camera, as with other DSLR's, will allow u to use interchangeable lenses which may be essential for some really awesome shots where you blur the background (with a 50mm lens). It also gives you the ability to do really highquality slow motion, which is another big aspect of skateboarding videos. So, it depends on what you are already using...if you have a HD camera perhaps it will do...but if you want to up the quality i'd get it.
Hi SquareMaster316, Good question. I have only ever had mine set on MP3 and it has worked fine. I am sure WAV would work as well though but I don't have experience using it. Thanks for commenting. If you need anything else let me know.
Hi Pelluru, I am sorry but I can't help you on that one. I haven't had any experience with the 600d....550d does everything I need so if you can get it cheaper, perhaps that's the way to go. Thanks for commenting.
Hi Pelluru, I haven't had a chance to play around with the canon 600d...so I don't know for sure...but I don't see why it wouldn't take a 32 gb card...but you better check with the supplier to be on the safe side. You could always just buy 2 16gb cards. Thanks for commenting!
In regards to the the taking a photo during video and moving the camera quickly stopping video recording: it is not the fault of the SD card. Taking a photo makes the mirror release as does a sudden jerk to the camera which stops video recording due to the mirror having to be locked in the up position to record video
your conclusion to recording videos with this camera is that it has a high qualitiy on videos, right? :) (I am thinking about buying it to make some freeze frame videos) thanks :)
Hi, I want to use this camera for RUclips videos but how will I know it's focused?? And then if it somehow is focused correctly, can I not move so I don't go out of focus? (Like move in for a close up of my face, etc.) Thanks!
Hi Rebecca...Unfortunately autofocus on older DSLRs in Videomode just doesn't exist. Check out my video where I show you my set up ruclips.net/video/B9uNjhLDH60/видео.html...If you want autofocus in video mode you'll have to get a Canon 70 or 80D...which are quite pricey...Otherwise you'll have to keep holding down the focus button and wait until you hear an indicator sound. Hope that helps
You ca. Plug a mobile phone a d use that as your view finder. This allows you to focus while standing in front of the camera. I have. Video up of how I do it
Hello Drew,i have 550d as yours but my camera in video modes I didn't see 30fps,60fps....there's only 25,24,50,50,crop50fps...can u help me to sett it or there are different from mine and yours?
Hi drew, I like your thorough reviews. This question might be a bit out of your knowledge. Do you know if this camera will work well by mounting to a telescope and recording detailed images/video through a 1.25 - 2 inch lense?
Hi Glenn, Unfortunately at the moment I don't have a green screen set up. I have also never tried doing it live so I probably wouldn't be the best person to answer your question. Sorry, and good luck.
Thanks for the video what do you think would be more effective a H1 Zoom recorder connected on top of the camera (which I already have) or a Rode mic on the top of the camera which will set me back $300 - I have to shoot some footage overseas and am looking for a lightweight option I already have a Canon 550D and a H1 recorder....
hi mate, can you post a short video with zoom h1 sound recorded direct in the camera? just wondered how it compares to original one. Also have you used rode micro? wondered how thats compares to zoom h1. thanks
Thanks Jacqui. I still use this camera for all my youtube videos. No autofocus while recording video and no swivel screen but other than that it works great.
bro. i got an external microphone. but seems like its still bad sound. i boosted the sound to max from the settings i believe but still sound is low when i stand 3 meters away, even indoors.
Hello Drew, for550D I would like to know if I can easily change the focus object in video recording mode(not continuous af)? If yes, what are the setting and how?Is if half press the shutter and focus? Thanks
Im am using the same type of DSLR. And im just wondering if how can i control my video recording example if i want to stop/pause the recording and want to continue the recording in a different place or angle/. im not sure if i explained it properly bec we are planning to cover a wedding and i have a task to record the whole event i was ask to know to how to do it .. hope you can help. Thanks
Hi Lean Ryan, Interesting question. To be honest I have never looked for a pause button during recording. I always just stop the recording and then start it again in a different place/angle and then edit the videos afterward. As I'm sure you are aware, this camera only records for 12 min before it automatically shuts off so it doesn't over heat. So, the longest you will be able to record is 12 min. I would just put all of you clips together after you are finished shooting. Hope this helps. Thanks.
I wish i had seen this video before buying Nikon d3100. I mainly use my camera for videos. T2i has more options in video than Nikon d3100. Thanks for the video.
thanks for the reply man. it'll probably be what i go with. afterall 200-250 for that kind of quailty is just insane..(after the DSLR learning curve of course)
2019 now & people are still using the 550d. There's gotta be a reason for that. I think Canon got a lot right with this model & a lot of features on subsequent models have been kinda like window dressing. From what I can tell people who have upgraded are still shooting in 1080p using equivalent settings to the 550d or simply still using the 550d because it's still more than good enough, they're seriously cheap now & the amount of compatible accessories is astronomical. Couple that with being able to use old lenses etc means that this is still a serious choice for budget film making.
I buy this camera 1 week ago and i want to know more advantages about this camera , I am also a beginner .. soo tell me your advice please .. thank you :)
Thanks for this review. When I'm using my T2i to shoot video, the camera stops about every 12 minutes, and I have to re-start it. I'm using a 32 GB memory card (Class 6). Is there any way to avoid this problem?
It does that due to tax laws that make the camera companys pay more tax on importing "Video Cameras" which they define by if it can record for 12mins or more at one time. So they make it stop recording every 12mins so they don't have to pay as much tax.
Men my T2I shows all my skin imperfection. Maybe its the lighting. Can you suggest a soft light in vlogging indoor sitting position. Or can you suggest how to decrease sharpness. Im about to give up using t2i in vlogging.
It's the lighting. Your skin should not be exposed to a direct bulb, even a ringlight. A big softbox, 36 or 48 inches, should do the trick. Don't forget to add a fill light and a background or hair light,
Thanks, great video :) All information that I needed! I've had this camera soon 1½ years and I finally needing it for video.. What was the most important reason for me to get this, haha.
You mean to tell my you only get 45 minutes of video filming on this camera? Makes no sense. And why does it stop recording midway??? My SONY does that as well. Just shuts off after half hr, and I have to turn it back on. It's ruined when I have to film a 75 minute event.
Hi JA Musicman, the amount that you can record and save depends on the size of your sd card. I believe it stops after 12 minutes so that the sensor doesn't over heat. You can always just press record again and record for another 12 min. Its not often that people need to film an unedited clip for longer than that I suppose. Thanks for the comment
Thanks for getting back. I film music concerts, and this happens on my Sony DSC RX100 as well...about 30 minutes in, it'll shut off. Once I didn't know it did, and I missed the rest of the concert until about 10 minutes before it was over. Suffice it to say, I never got paid for filming the show as a result. I guess I need a professional videocamera for that kind of filming? Surely there's a camera out there that films for longer periods, say with a 64Gig memory card?
+GanonSlayer It depends on which part of the world yours is from I believe. Don't quote me but I think Europe uses 50fps rather than 60...they are both good though...so no worries. Thanks for commenting
+GanonSlayer u can use 50fps as wel but if u want 60fps u need to go to the menu,go to the last icon setting and change video system to ntsc and u can in the State, lol
thank god there are people out there who can speak english when it comes to these camera's. I bought it to take great photos and some memorable videos for future gens....I didnt buy it to have a professional career or do weird shit. thank you :-)
Hi Kale. It could be your SD card. You need a class 10x SD card for it to work properly. If you have one, try formatting it in the camera settings before using it. Let me know how it goes!
Anyone still loving the 550d in 2019?
fuck yeah man
Still using 550d for all the works I do😊
Charging 6 E8 batteries today for my 550d here in Feb/2020. I haven't used it for a long while but I'm kicking the cobwebs to the curb
yup, 2020 actually
@@owlmuso is it good for vlogging sir?

Interesting. I'm getting one of these to use as a dedicated video camera. If I permanently lock the mirror up will that eliminate that problem?
You're very welcome! Thanks for the nice comment!
your conclusion to recording videos with this camera is that it has a high qualitiy on videos, right? :) (I am thinking about buying it to make some freeze frame videos) thanks :)

Mine either. I think it's a regional thing.
Thanks much for this! Really helped me as I had to learn using the video mode in a short time.
No problem! Thanks for commenting.
You're very welcome. Thanks for commenting!
Drew's Obsessions Hi drew, quick question how do you turn on the flash light when you're on shooting mode.
Hi drew, I like your thorough reviews. This question might be a bit out of your knowledge. Do you know if this camera will work well by mounting to a telescope and recording detailed images/video through a 1.25 - 2 inch lense?
Hi Drew quick question want to know if you can please do a video tuorial on how to use the 550D T2i for a live video on a green screen Thanks
Hi Glenn,
Unfortunately at the moment I don't have a green screen set up. I have also never tried doing it live so I probably wouldn't be the best person to answer your question. Sorry, and good luck.
Thanks for the video and the tip about the external mic needed.

Nice video - how did you connect the Zoom H1 mic to the T2i? Purchased a hot shoe and what cables? Thanks!
hi mate, can you post a short video with zoom h1 sound recorded direct in the camera? just wondered how it compares to original one. Also have you used rode micro? wondered how thats compares to zoom h1. thanks
Thanks Drew for your response
I did find out from another video tutorial thanks again
This is one I'm looking at for photo and some vlogging because the price is so low compared to the newer options. Great video.
Thanks Jacqui. I still use this camera for all my youtube videos. No autofocus while recording video and no swivel screen but other than that it works great.
How do I set up the auto focus for my video because whenever I try to make a video It dosen't af.
Thanks for this! I'm gonna bite the bullet and will purchase this next week.
Question: which tripod are you using at the beginning of the vid?
Thanks Drew. It really helps a lot..Thanks for the tip as well. Il keep this page bookmarked on my PC bec .Thanks again! Have a great day

Hi, It's called a Gorilla Pod. I bought it off a website called dealextreme for 11 bucks I think. They are great! thanks for commenting
Would you say this camera still holds up today? I'm looking to buy a cheap camera for experimenting with youtube and these are pretty cheap used.
I still use this video for 99% of my videos. I rarely take photos these days but it's still a great camera in my opinion.
thanks for the reply man. it'll probably be what i go with. afterall 200-250 for that kind of quailty is just insane..(after the DSLR learning curve of course)
Is there a camera you would recommend now over this for around the same price since this video is 2 years old?

Is it still useful to make videos for business with this camera?
I buy this camera 1 week ago and i want to know more advantages about this camera , I am also a beginner .. soo tell me your advice please .. thank you :)
Thanks for the info.
Would you recommend for the Zoom h1 recorder to be set to WAV or MP3 when attaching it to the camera?
Is this the lowest model for canon dslr to do video?
Thanks for this review. When I'm using my T2i to shoot video, the camera stops about every 12 minutes, and I have to re-start it. I'm using a 32 GB memory card (Class 6). Is there any way to avoid this problem?

You can use Magic Lantern there is an auto restart, so you can fill it up your SD card with just one click!
in video mode how do you adjust the f-stops though??

Hi Kale. It could be your SD card. You need a class 10x SD card for it to work properly. If you have one, try formatting it in the camera settings before using it. Let me know how it goes!
Thank you so much sir but can you sent your mail id to me
