this interview is very special to me 'cause it's about my dearest friend & cousin Uma , spoken beautifully by my another dearest childhood buddy & family friend lakshmi (as we fondly call shobana ) ; I still can't believe that Uma has left all of us so soon ; though we didn't meet often , I always used to admire her from a distance for her genuine , affectionate & humble nature ❤; she's such a sweet person , just like her singing & always had a sweet smile & spoke only sweet words ❤ as very rightly told by shobana , I (nimmi) really feel very guilty for not meeting her for a long time, though it was not intentional ; I did not know that she was unwell; anyways , May God give Mr Ramanan & their son vignesh the strength to overcome this inconsolable loss in their life 🙏 May uma's great soul rest in peace 🙏

AV Ramanan and Uma Ramanan are almost cult personalities during their light music days . Uma Ramanan sang some lovely songs . Beautiful recollection here. Shobana ji struck to the finer aspects respecting their privacy and sharing lovely moments of her association with Uma Ramanan. Last one minute of her learning was simply valuable . A good tribute to a wonderful personality . 😊
I remember during early 80s, Mr. AV Ramanan had conducted light music at a marriage reception at Vasavi Mahal Trichy. He started the programme with devotional song " pullankuzhal kodutha moonkilkale" sung by his troupe member Mr. Krishnamurthy.
The camera man should constantly show the guest. Don't frequently switch to show the interviewer. You are showing every 5 seconds even if he says 'hmm'. Even if he speaks, don't show him. We can hear his voice. That's enough. We are not interested to see his expressions and reactions. It is very irritating. In fact other previous interviews are even worse.

While such songs (explaining the beauty of Tamil as a language) need lyrics, it is the TUNE that elevates the lyrics and makes those beautiful words immortal in the hearts of, albeit, an elite musician or an illiterate layman (applies to Thamizhukkum amudhendru paer song as well). IR music does not need the crutches; it is STANDALONE. That is how it was conceived, and composed by IR. This does NOT MEAN the talents of lyricists / singers are undermined. It is just to underscore the IMPORTANCE of great soulful music which takes precedence over such excellent lyrics.

Cassette had the song, but it was not picturized). 13:30 - Uma Ramanan sang in IR's concerts (more than a few times). She was even on the stage at the Ilayaraja-1000 event organized by Vijay TV. She sang ~75 songs (almost all of them are GEMS) for Ilayaraja from 1981's timeless hit Poongkadhave thaazh thiravaai to 2001's Vaarthai thavari vittaai. Anchor is a far sensible one compared to others in this medium, but should stop being petty / getting too personal for cooking up a "controversy".
