Please keep doing what you’re doing Aaron! Clean, ethical kills should be what this is about. Shooting and missing, shooting and wounding, wounding and not recovering seem to be in style nowadays and most viewers are okay with it because the hunter tried. Keep showing the audience how to do it right and hopefully we all will have better outdoor experiences.

Keep doing what you do best, and that is showing good ethics while in the field!
It's NOT all about the kill!
Something that a lot of others in the industry don't seem to understand anymore.
One of the biggest reasons I don't subscribe to their shows any longer and the reason I will promote your channel to others!
You guys prove that it's the time in the outdoors, learning something new each time we are able to be out. Whether it be a sound we have never heard a turkey make, the way a flock of starlings move as one, and many numerous opportunities to witness it all firsthand.
The taking of an animal we are hunting is just a bonus!

Thats a great point, and something newer or less successful hunters sometimes dont understand. Its awesome to fill a tag. But if thats all you think about, or the only way you consider a hunt a success, you're missing out on a lot.
Thanks for keeping it real, I'm glad that there are people producing content that shows hunts where the hunter goes home empty handed. Most hunting shows make it look too easy, so people go out in the real woods and dont see 5 monster bucks the first day and give up.

If the hunt ends with the prize intended.. Then Kudos to you. Don't let other people take away from the joy you put into the adventure. An some might say comes from a guy who shoots lil deer or none. Got to love muzzleloader season, in some ways even tied with archery season. At least in my state of West Virginia once all the people shoot em up on the first couple days of rifle season they don't even mess with going out with the ole single shot and puff of smoke, too much work for em. So that means more peace and quiet and usually there is a light snow which as you guys know can help spot a deer. Or in the case of tonight's sit, a couple rabbits (which for me is huge since there are not many around anymore), a squirrel who thought he/she was boss and a flock of 6-8 turkeys just bopping along feeding on what they can in the light snow. Plus it was cool to see them roost up all around me.
That is a nice set up you and Jake got there, the Thompson Center brand has been synonymous with muzzleloader hunting for a very long time. Vortex and Barnes both make high quality, good value products. My next scope just might be a Vortex, on my Long Range Hunter in .300 WSM that I am setting up for western big game hunting of my .17 HMR that I recently got. Your buddy Jeff Sturgis loves his Barnes Spit-Fire T-EZ saboted loads. Myself I have a CVA Optima V2 50 cal with an ambi thumbhole camo stock, use Hornady SST High Speed Low Drag 250 grainers, a different brand's muzzleloading scope (it fit my budget at the time, not a fan of the ones that come on the combos, so I got a gun without a scope and bought my own), Hodgdon Triple-7 pellets (100 grains aka 2 pellets) and Winchester Triple Seven 209 muzzleloading primers. Works well for me so far, even though I have yet to take a deer with her.
Question: I know some states people are only allowed to use loose powder and not pellets, is that why you all went with the Blackhorn powder or is it just that you and Jake have found that works best in your rifles? I like the convenience of being able to drop two pellets in a quickloader with my sabot and bullet and if I don't shoot I can unscrew the breech plug and put them back in the quickloader. I know they make measuring vials for loose powder, my Dad uses a percussion cap Hawkins that he got a couple decades ago and loves it.

Aaron...you are an absolute PRINCE for being so patient with your viewers!!! I've spent my entire deer hunting career (40 years) hunting from the ground, sitting on logs, behind trees, bushes, makeshift "blinds"....and I've had DOZENS of experiences where would would think success was absolutely guaranteeed, only to have it spoiled by something out of my control. And I wasn't trying to FILM IT!!!!!
So don't you give these "shoot it!!!" Monday morning QBs any mind at all! Most of them are inexperienced or have spent their entire hunting life in a heated box over food plots on private land where "hunting" isn't hunting at all. It's "shooting" deer that have come come out into the open to EAT. These people are NOT "hunters."

Barnes and blackthorn that's what I've uses for the past 10 years in my triumph. I always try to shoot a barnes bullet in all rifles. I even got a perfect 90° expansion on my 250gr pbt at 262yds.
I wouldn't recommend using the T7 primers, they are less powerful and TC breech plugs (on the triumph and encore, not sure about the impact) have a long flash channel and a hotter primer like a standard 209 or a 209M will lend for more positive ignition with BH209 powder.

Oh that battery set that primer of and it reminded me of an vision or dream I had . In this dream it was the future and I was hunting with this custom muzzie that was chambered in .30 cal and amongst the pleathera of bullets in 30 cal I was using an 308 projectile . The gun didn't use primers but had electrodes , like sparkplugs and stun guns , as the igniter , due to shortages of primers , and the projectile was loaded from the rear which only required the bullet starter rod which was sowed away in the stock of the gun . To release it there was a push button and the rod would pop out . That was one hell of a dream or " Dream gun " ! Are you muzzleloader manufactures getting the gist of this ?

I like the Spitfire T-EZ's not only because of performance but its one of the few lead free ammunition I have reliably found. I hunt public land that mandates lead free ammo, which often results in less pressure during gun season.

I wonder if some of the criticism is because you guys pass up big deer most of us never see and people cant believe it. I love the tactics and info you give. Keep up the great work.

Great explanation of your last couple hunts. Being a safe ethical hunter is best for all. Liked that you shared your muzzleloader loads. Had a problem with a name brand not expanding enough in my accounts. Barnes bullet will be my choice to use! Thanks again THP.

Great video! I enjoy them all. You don't have to always kill a buck every time you go! Can't wait to see some more hunts from out West. Those were cool last season!

We’ve all taken shots we probably shouldn’t have and I totally respect your decision to not force the shot(s) on those two nice bucks! In my opinion that’s proven you to be an even better hunter! Great job! Awesome hunt!

I have the T/C impact as well and really like it being my first muzzleloader. I use triple seven pellets 100’grain with 250 grain hornady sabots. Shot a nice doe with it this year and it put her down quick!

Have to believe it was a spark from the battery that set off the primer. I fully agree with you on taking ethical shots only. Have to respect the critters. Great stuff.

Never apologize for being an ethical hunter. Most of these trolls that question your hunting skills are not hunters anyway. Just a bunch of soy boys that never get off the pavement.

You made a circuit in your hand warmer. Primer probably got between the two batteries, with opposing polarities. The primer was the load. I would be interested to see if the primer was in place long enough to heat up and then explode, or if it arced and caused the primer to go off?
