    Couldn’t agree more on your point about accepting multiple forms of payment including credit cards at vendor tables. I have a vendor table at a small local show in my area and even I have a MPOS bank of america card reader.

    Cash only dealers scream shady to me. People do not want to travel with that kind of cash to NY or Chicago be realistic please. Just because you want to avoid paying taxes like an actual business is ridiculous for the consumer.

    Using the "basement'" area would probably add some cost, both with rental costs, and added staff to manage that area. I imagine they will look to expand to there as the show becomes more popular.
    Regarding the "gift shop" area, based on my experience of the foot traffic that area gets at NYCC, I imagine it would be significantly easier for shoplifters to grab-and-go. You have so many people moving in so many different directions that keeping an eye on everything would be a lot harder.

    13:51 I always chuckled when dealers would give booth numbers in Instagram posts because I thought do people really remember this stuff, but it’s clear to me now that some people do care about this so that’s an easy fix like you said

  • @juhosevic

    Totally agree on the dealer table locations. It drove me wild they had table numbers but no location.
    I was in line for a Barry sanders autograph on Saturday and it was still a bit messy. If the app can throw out notifications, I thought the auto lines could be better managed similar to how the airports seat people in groups. Ping me 30 minutes when it’s time to line up vs waiting 2 hours in line. For VIPs, let them get autos at their leisure during the allotted time(s).

    • @NEO_Cards_Comics
      @NEO_Cards_Comics  21 день назад

      That’s a good idea on the app. I didn’t personally do any autos so I didn’t have a lot of hot takes on the set up.

    • @juhosevic
      @juhosevic 21 день назад

      @@NEO_Cards_Comics don’t know how it’s done at comic con, but you are totally spot on as it was way too condensed at the auto zone. I think fanatics wanted to create buzz and let people see the autographers. The Barry sanders line and Michael Vick line stated to merge at one point and folks were confused.

    I also think Chicago there are many that don’t want to bring their family there , not much else to do and perception is not very safe if not at one of the a-joining hotels . Need more family oriented areas like Florida for the national

    The issue with cards is in low volume side hustles is the % they take. The credit card processing companies want lots of transactions. I do not know Square and other fees. Unless you are setting up at large shows all the time it can become a high expense.
    Having said that I accept paypal and venmo. I have helped people set that up at a show. With no issues and takes no time.
    final thought, if you are setting up at the national, Fanatics, dallas and so on... If you claim to be a big dog, You better be set up for everything. Only cash isn't going to cut it even at a local 30 table show

    Real collectors want a card show, not a fest. Sports fans and casuals want an experience, not a card show. There is plenty of room for both. The National may feel they need to make some tweaks to compete. I honestly don’t see FF as a direct threat. I do agree with you that there are only so many hobby dollars to go around. Maybe next time around someone that was introduced to cards at FF want to go to a National.

    For Vintage collectors like me - The National is a clear choice. Agree if you want a family thing it would be Fanfest. Would love to see The National in a larger space again like the Javits Center but think it will be in Rosemont almost every year forever. In the 90s The National was at McCormick’s place once and that was World Class but union workers had to unload dealers vehicles and load in and that was a never again for that location.

    I'm not understanding the no credit card thing and why dealers didn't do it. I can see where it may be inconvenient to set up a credit card machine, but Paypal and Venmo is pretty common these days. Also, I get the 1099 argument but these dealers are making online sales every other day outside of card shows. These are all big named dealers, not flea market vendors. There has to be something missing in the story about why they wanted cash only.

    This assumes that Fanatics wants to maximize foot traffic to the cards (at the expense of traffic to a corporate booth)
    What this tells me is that Fanatics successfully led non-card people into cards (the front tables). They got a taste but understandably didn’t walk the whole show.
    To aid those in the back, I would have certain corporate freebies redeemable in the back. Someone goes to the Lids store, gives their cell phone number, and is told to go to a certain table to claim a free pack of cards

    The biggest improvement they can do is to address the cost of travelling to the show, from hotel to parking costs. The venue is very close to NJ, they should advertise a paid shuttle bus service from NJ to the Convention, so that guests can stay at cheaper hotels in NJ and not worry about parking in NYC.

    • @NEO_Cards_Comics

    Goodness gracious where do I begin??!!! First, not surprised that this channel had the “ same reaction “ to cards hq and cc2 with regards to fanatics fest! Of course they’ll not criticize because they may lose access or “press” badges! (Like any RUclips content creator is a real member of the press).
    As a REAL seller of sports cards, let me give my opinion on taking credit cards at shows! No brainer??!! Really??!! Ok does NEO take credit cards during trade nights or any other time when everyone is setting up for free??!! Of course the answer, once again, is NO. Why isn’t NEO or any other trade night folks walking around with credit card readers as well???!!! Hypocrisy run amok!! Speaking for myself, if I EVER set up as a dealer at a show, EVERYONE will pay cash or move along! Too many POS’s, and scammers who may do chargebacks! I’ll pass. NEO or any content creator is free to show video of THEMSELVES taking credit! Trust me, the video will be short

      GOODNESS were do I begin. First off I paid my way in Fanatics Fest just like everyone else, no press pass here. No I don't take credit cares at the trade because I'm not a card show dealer cards are not my job. I'm guessing the majority of people setting up as dealers at FF dealing sports card is there lively hood/business that's a big difference.

      @@NEO_Cards_Comicsyes - black case warriors walk around, pay no table fees , get paid in cash. So they always benefit?? The card dealer who pays table fees, travel fees, so on, so forth must accept the discounted offers from “comps” and NOW must also take an addl 3% charge and now have record of a taxable event?? Cool. I’m sure you’re doing this right?? Think you’re great on market reporting and commentary. As soon as you stray from that I’ve found you to be a bit hypocritical. How bout we appreciate dealers who take time, trouble, and expense setting up. Lord knows you ain’t doing that

    News Flash, NO ONE GIVES A SHIT about the extra crap. Its literally walking advertisements for brands and we don't care about that crap. That's why card shows need to be about cards. Michael Rubin used this platform to buddy up and rub shoulders with rappers, athletes and other people who are conning him out of his money. He needs to run his own white party twice a year if he wants to keep networking.
