- First skid with the Bombardier Ram Skidder. 1963ish with a flathead 251 Chrysler engine. This was the first time I tried it and I need to make some changes as well as repair some issues - mainly the fuel system and the exhaust manifold. More videos coming along with a good look at Ramy McSkidface!
That little Bombardier looks prehistoric but it is still getting it done! What a great little machine, can’t wait to see the modifications you are planning so I’m going to follow along, all the best to you & GOD BLESS!!!
Thanks very much and thanks for watching!
Nice to see you with the safety gear. Lot of guys don't know how quickly things can go wrong. Great video!
oh ya for sure, I don't mess round working in the bush - number one rule - keep mouth closed and shield down when pulling out chokers lol.
Sure they do??
They just think it won’t happen to me.
I could watch this stuff all day long......I watch your videos on my second monitor while I work away in my office. :)
Those Bombardiers were made in Quebec, so you know they were built for the bush! The Chrysler 251 flatheads were a Great engine. Used in trucks, forklifts, welders, compressors , airport tugs, and all kinds of Ag equipment, just to name a few! Keep up the great work.
Thanks for the info!
Having driven both tractors and skidder in the bush, that rig is pretty impressive simply for how little damage it does. I used to drive Bombier muskeg tractors along the coast of James Bay and it never occured to me they could be used as skidders.
Awesome vid! That is a nice little skidder. Pretty powerful and you can get into tight spots👍🏻
Hey thanks for watching - I agree!
The drone view of the tree falling was awesome!
Thanks! It's tricky lol, not much time to make it all work by myself. Running back and forth before it runs out of battery.....or it lands in the trees.
@@rollingupmysleeves persistence pays!! We can tell you are a hard worker!! Keep up the good work my man!!!
Awesome video!!!!! Has got to be the slickest little skidder ever made!
You got that right!
what cool little rig !
Awesome machine. Looking forward to the milling video to come.
Coming soon!
Great video, really need to fix the exhaust leak. Thanks for sharing:)
No problem 👍. Already done - video coming
Great video man 💯
Glad you enjoyed
Awesome drone shot!
Thanks!
Perfect for some low impact logging
New sub here love this type of content keep up the good work brother
Thanks for the sub!
New subscriber here. Wow! That thing is cool! Love your channel. Nice job of taking the stump down to the ground.
Thanks for the sub! I hate stumps! We play in the bush in the winter and they are magnets for metal skis and snowmobile parts it seems lol. Cheers
@@rollingupmysleeves , is that a carbide chain that you are using?
Handy little buggy!
Awesome machine
It sure is!
Don’t forget to like Louis videos.
man that machine is pretty cool
wat year is it n makeover it
I think about a 63. Yes I plan on rebuilding it one day
Looks like a single use piece of equipment, but it does that job well. Thumbs Up!
By single use do you mean purpose built or only to be used once? Im amazed it still works since it was built in 62 or 63!
@@rollingupmysleeves I mean it is/was built for only moving logs. But it seems to do a very good job of doing that. I like it.
It is losing fuel because the fuel line and that plastic filter are all but touching the exhaust - I'll not discredit possible particle contaminant, however after you check for that move all the lines or shield them from the heat of the exhaust - video was very cool 👍
Exactly, too hot next to the exhaust - it's been changed - video coming!
Nice hand throttle
That's the choke!
I wish my 30 ton Tulsa PTO winch on the back of my dozer worked, but I’d really like my dozer first to run good, I can tell y’all when it and my tractors are running good I feel so much better and don’t have near bout the stress that I’ve been under since they broke down and I’m not quite the mechanic that I need for some of this stuff
Sorry to hear that, hope you get everything working!
Man would love to see a guard built on the cable area. scary watching you winch in that close to line of fire
I know eh!
Makes me wonder if anyone actually sat in that cab with a logging helmet on when they built it. Or was it just a design signature that got baked into the sign-off process.
The cab was shortened to fit it into a small garage door - that being said when it was new I am sure it was nearly as uncomfortable....not too many 6 footers in 1962 I suspect.
I am envious of those bombardiers that you keep finding. What did you do with the Cmp truck ?
Truck was purchased by a fella in Saskatchewan - he needed it as a template to build one....couldnt say no to his offer
Love that old Bombardier what a great machine are you in Quebec?
Thanks for watching! Im in Ontario. Cheers
Fuel system might be getting a little vapour locked from the heat off the exhaust manifold. The fuel line looks too close. Worth trying to get it further away and possibly insulate the line. Cheap and wont hurt!
I was thinking the same thing - used to happen with my 64 dodge...and one of my old airplanes.
Looks like some plug wires are arcing but still an awesome rig
was a lot more than that lol, plugs were toast - points were done, exhaust manifold cracked in half....all fixed up!
You could cut firewood for life with that. So cool. Hey how do I see the updated model ?
Just subscribe -itll be in my shop next week.
Throw a can of engine restore in it, repair exhaust leak and tune carb and watch the power come back
Oh ya lots of work done - video coming!
Rolling Up My Sleeves Can’t wait to see it!
Torque monster for a little guy
Yes I was pretty surprised.
Is this a third skidded you bought? 😂Anyway great video, nice thick woods with plenty to mill. Watch the back brother!
Nice video! When is the next milling video coming out?
Very soon! Setting up the mill this weekend if it's dry enough...ground is a bit too soggy to move logs on it....but I have lots to mill!
That’s a great skidded. What’s something like that worth?
Pretty pricey - as much as an old skidder at local prices.
Were did you get your Helmet?
I ordered it from an arborist type of company - much nicer then the usual kind we find here. Euro design lol.
Workin on zoom all day is for suckers, I want some of this action! Running any of the holtzforma saws Louis?
You bet - That was the one I stumped with. 372xp clone. Trying it out.
That think is awesome!!! Low impact all day! Where abouts are you?
Near Ottawa, totally low impact - cant wait to run it this winter.
oh no two wild canadians conspirering to take over the world !!
hey kev cool huh ???
felling, limbing and bucking with a chainsaw and skidding out is a dying trade.
glad to see you out in the bush. they don't make em like they used to
Ya, they've made it so you can only do this with a few million bucks worth of equipment. Property owner makes peanuts. With lumber prices so high I still dont see the property owners getting more in their pocket as well.
well now you got a long sought after skidder to help you with keeping it attainable and affordable. screw the big guy, the man is just in it for himself, doesnt matter about you, him, her or, tom, dick and harry.
@@murraytichborne9903 I agree. Did my last cut with the 664C and made better than having someone come in and do it that's for sure.
skibo, hook up a couple more chokers to that skidder, be able to pull more out at once. might have to do more bucking and limbing up front before skidding out though.
why did you not cut off the branches???
To clear off my trail - I used it as a drag basically. I had just built that road.
I ran a straight 6 cylinder j5 Simla or to your machine
Gas engine is best to have a muffler on it to keep your power,or your going to kill your little 4cyd
I see you really don't have any head clearance. Couldn't you cut the 4 posts and sleeve it to the height you need. Looks to be a simple design.
Yes its very tight - I cold but im going to build a new cab for it - with a bit more driver protection. Thanks for watching!
That guy knows how to sharpen a chainsaw...
Rakers are filed down for firewood...dont like the softwood much lol.
There’s a special talent to saw sharpening...I haven’t mastered it yet! Lol..
What is that machine it's really cool !😎
Bombardier Ram Skidder
It looks like a dangerous machine... needs 100% attention at all times.
All Industrial, construction equipment from pre1980, were dangerous machines to run. Care and full attention at all times is the key!
Need a cage on back Incase that cable ever breaks!
Building one next week!
Never seen a critter like that but wished I had one of those machines.
Is that a 3rd bombardier? Lol
Maybe...shhhhh
Only thing I can't figure out is why most everybody in you tube videos wastes atleast one to two feet of tree by leaving the stumps high and not many can cut trees without using wedges
The butt on that twisted log wasn't going to be used - that log is being used for a bunk to lay a pile of logs on. no big deal
Next time make the wedge in the stump and that way you won't have to cut the end off the log. Cheers
You mean like a humboldt?
Humboldt cut🙂
Why do you blokes fell tree's in such a way you leave a 2 foot stump, which you saw off, basicly using 3 lots of fuel when you only need 1 lot of fuel, come to Europe, see how real timber fallers fell tree's.
Yes for sure Ive watched videos like this: ruclips.net/video/tMSX2H1bSUc/видео.html. Very cool and yes I do that sometimes, depends on what I'm working on and where, what type of flare, what type of tree. In that video I linked and in similar euro techniques the amount of cutting is near the same for a larger tree, I still want ground level stumps because I drive in that area, the hinge still has to be cut off. If I'm cutting a big hardwood in a forest I will cut higher and leave the stump - safer to keep an eye on what is happening up high as the big Oaks like to drop widow makers. But in all reality these pine groves here we usually just use fellerbuncher/harvesters to take care of them in no time and leave behind 4 inch stumps - they are rarely if ever harvested with a chainsaw. Thanks for watching and your input!
