Born and raise 15 minutes from New York City… I’m 65 years old and way back then, when I was a teenager, studio 54 was the place to be… cocaine was abound. I was more into rock and roll, but I digress… Trump was the antithesis of us last of the baby boomers. How he got to be president or even on TV is so beyond me. He was just a NYC socialite Bragging about his pretty women on his arms and bragging about how rich he was.

Bannon was convicted for stealing money from MAGAS. He's appealing his Congressional Supoena trial, I think.

Y’all make a great point. I was a Democrat poll watcher for many years, and ended up quitting somewhere in… 2019. I live in a very red neighborhood. During the darkness of the early morning on one electron day, our polling station was vandalized- by some absolute *moron* who thought that spray painting their guy’s name in red all over the walls of a 300+-year-old church that’s registered as a Historical Landmark made him look *good.*
Many of the folks who vote at my polling place know my parents, know where I grew up, know where I live. They know that I’m old, and that my husband works the overnight shift in the ER, leaving me alone most nights. Still… I regret dropping out, and plan to get involved again. This time, I’ll request an assignment that’s not my own polling place. Hopefully, that will be safer.

Found this on the DOJ page - Bannon was sentenced today to four months of incarceration and ordered to pay a fine of $6,500 on two counts of contempt of Congress stemming from his failure to comply with a subpoena issued by the House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6 breach of the United States Capitol. DOJ

Presidentila pardons for political cronies is a disgrace
Trump pardoned him for the crimes he committed during the Trump Admin. But because he was pardoned the feds never prosecuted him for his part in the We Build the Wall frauds so they took all the evidence they had against him for those frauds and sent it to the NY state AG. Last year the NY AG convened a grand jury and the GJ determined there likely were crimes committed. The other 3 co-defendants in the case are each currently serving multi year federal prison sentences for their parts in that fraud. It is going to be great watching scumbag Bannon get sentenced to a multi year state prison sentence for wire fraud, money laundering and conspiracy to commit fraud. His trial starts in NY district court on May 28th, 2024. LOL
He's not out of the woods yet. He's still got a possible 4 month jail term after his appeal and a new trial starting this month (unless they've changed it).

With cases like Bannon's I like to imagine what it would be like for Bannon to be in prison. Which prison/jail? How are the accommodations? How's the social scene?

I am a new election employee for 2024! I will not be scared away from supporting our democracy and the voting system. The March primary here in Colorado was fair and legal and will continue to be for June and November. Don’t be scared away from voting or doing election jobs if you want to.

He and Stephen Miller are probably two of the most dangerous to your country.
Bannon's position is that he isn't going to concede and pay what he owes. However, he continues to rant and threaten that when Trump is elected all hell is going to begin. Just yesterday he was describing how things are going to reverse course and people will see everyone "against" Trump will be thrown into prison and punished for their choices. If Bannon can ride out the next few months and Trump is elected, he, too, will be pardoned and the slate will be wiped clean just like Trump. It is frightening that so many are escaping consequences by using the system to do what they like and skate by in the end. My hope for a happy ending to the misery of the last few years is fading.
I am an election judge in a small town in Missouri. I am a tiny blue dot in an ocean of red, but I will always show up because voting is our last defense against tyranny. I want to urge everyone to volunteer to work the elections, and don’t be afraid of threats from evil bullies like Bannon. VOTE!

I've been an election worker in Minnesota for several years, I've encouraged my son to do it too.
We are not going to be intimidated to stop. Knowing election works in other states may face intimidation makes us even more determined to make sure our elections remain fair.

The electoral college prevented Donald Trump from stealing the election in 2020.
Be careful what you wish for. It’ll be much easier to steal an election if states were not limited in their effects on the national election. The attorney general of Texas bragged about preventing a Biden win in Texas in 2020 and tried to overturn results in about half a dozen other states. If the electoral college wasn’t there, I have no doubt he would’ve done much more damage.
Getting rid of the Electoral College and Citizens United would be a radical change for this country. What would happen if we also included the same federal campaign allowance for each candidate (amount depending on the position they're campaigning for), and had only a couple of months' worth of campaigning? I believe they do something like that in Australia-- plus mandatory voting, and election day on a Saturday.

Citizens united was a Supreme Court ruling which could be countered through legislation.
There is already a federal campaign. People can contribute to this campaign through a check off on their federal tax returns.
If we cannot throw out the corruptible EC, then they need to have monitors to make sure they are verified workers for the EC.
We’ve had mail in ballots in Australia for decades and it works well here but we also have compulsory voting from 18 years old. Could you imagine the uproar from the Republican Party if you made voting compulsory from 18. I worked the polls for about 8 years. 7am to 10pm. Less than minimum wage. Most people do not get that you are basically volunteering.

I still work the polls and after my 10th anniversary this year, Over the years I have notices that fewer and fewer people work them. It's long hours and on slow days its excruciatingly boring. on days like presidential or governor elections its super fast paced and you have to also be everything from security to information person to clerk and you have to do it without showing any bias toward either political party.
I did it for 4 years. I might get back into it this election.

There was a (now former) Republican that asked a crowd of Republicans who here has voted by mail ? A majority of hands went up. The organizer later told him to never do that again. The efforts to get people to doubt every Federal service is part of the fascist agenda.

Oregon has voted by mail for decades EXCLUSIVELY!!! No issues. No standing in line.
Same as Washington state. It works fine, and there are plenty of all the checks and balances to keep it safe.
How do you know that the ballot was actually filled out and mailed by the real voter, not somebody else? Eg. a domineering husband.
Colorado works the same way, also has same day registration with proper documents. I've been an election judge in our county and the process is totally secure and well run.

I'm also an Oregonian and we've had mail-in and drop box only voting since 2000. Past polls have shown Democrats and Republicans almost equally satisfied with it.

I retired at 51 and moved to NC in 2011. I know "Democracy Watch" is doing a lot of work in the State ,(mostly due to the criminal level of Gerrymandering, but as far as ease of voting compared to where I was from was top-notch. The thing back then making the news was "Voter ID". No big deal for me (to my nonreligious ass,I was thinking that the "Souls to polls" preachers could downsize their Limos, to Crown Victoria's, and pay for IDs for the indigent in their congregation. , then work to make it free. (I mean in NC an indigent citizen can get free hunting and fishing licenses. so the state doesn't have to feed hungry people, (It's not "Let them cake" it's "Let them go fishing"). But I still signed up to be a poll worker, anyway, because I did not need the money but I had done public service all my life. After Trump was elected things changed. A former co-worker of mine who retired here (Homicide Detective) was electioneering, yes he is black, but he was also a lifelong Republican. I had also worked with him on patrol, and his wife was my former patrol partner (she retired out of sex crimes). He was approached by 3 hillbilly trailer park residents one of which got out of the jalopy and displayed "what appeared to be a firearm", and asked for" ID". He walked off and called the cops,.The cops caught them. The asshole with the "gun" (pellet gun but he was on parole) caught a felony, and his two buddies caught misdemeanors. When I read over the packet, to be a poll worker, and saw that If I were an election worker I could not be armed. I told them "Yeah, no". But I might hang around outside anyway.
