It was a lot of work for you, but that much more pleasure for me to watch you work. I have several journals in different sizes, but as a novice at art journaling I find the larger size more forgiving. Maybe it's just that I have large hands and arthritis. In any case, it is a beautiful video.
Love your work ! If you use Murphys oil soap (it's a wood floor cleaner) in hot water and dump anything with acrylic paint on it no matter how thick, it just floats off and comes up like new. No scrubbing necessary. Less cleaning means more arting 😉Hugs Kate
I use Murphy’s oil soap all the time and combine with a little bit of dish detergent(not dishwasher detergent, and it works wonders for everything. Let it soak for a while.
What a joy and inspiration you are, France! I have walked away from my art for almost two years. My wonderful, loving husband was diagnosed with cancer, but by that time it was already far too late. He died, last year, in my arms surrounded by his children. Recovery, for me has been slow and painful. This video had sparked my imagination and I can't wait to try out some of these techniques. I can't thank you enough.
I prefer larger size for journaling as well as just mixed media pieces. I have always preferred big, as I used to do murals, I love all the space, and filling it all in. It invokes fearlessness and fun. I had been wondering if everyone just did small pieces mostly. So, keep it big,and embrace the space!
I loved this spread. I think you did a great job at keeping everything balanced, and the time on the video doesn't matter as long as you are letting people know where your head is. Which you did very well. All together it was great. Thank you so much for sharing.
months ago i glued large sheets of junkmail together then covered with gesso. they were sat in the shed until i got them out a couple of weeks ago and had a long, hard look. i saw the awful bubbling and warping but decided to go with it. the wrinkled surface was brilliant for underwater scenes and i love it. these pages will be part of an A4 journal with 3" spine. thanks for adding this video xxx
I love it and thoroughly enjoyed watching you create this larger format. It somehow depend my appreciation for your work. Although I already greatly appreciated your work so I didn't think it possible that I could appreciate it more. Thank you very much for sharing.
You just expressed my feelings when I started a first time journal yesterday. I was overwhelmed. So a friend has bought me a smaller size for Christmas so I will restart on New Year’s Day. New life, new first art journal. This video really helped my decision, and your spread is amazing.
Love this! I know larger journals are so overwhelming for me. Couldn’t believe how large it was until you showed all three journals to compare! I love the size of your smaller ones!
I'M IN LOVE ! As a feeling , I don't have other words to say , I'm just in love with this spread ! I'm with you , more time , more products , more challenges ..yes But I love your insisting to finish it , the fact that your brain was wanting not less than a complete page , made it think well and push all its creativity out , and the result is a beautifully made, well balanced spread that is showing who much beauty of taste you have in that talented mind of yours And what I learned as a crafter is : don't give up , be patient , if things didn't work now , be insisting and trust in the talent you have , then your brain will do the necessary and squeeze all the creative juices out of it onto that project later ! How inspiring it is ! Thank you so much for sharing !
I also only journal in smaller journals have yet to start in a bigger one so you are definitely inspiring me to try and go big this spread is fabulous. Thanks a bunch Big Hugs and Smiles
I loved watching you develop this page and hearing your thoughts on working in a larger scale. I found the exciting thing about large pages is working with larger tools, bolder strokes and focal points that would be too large for small pages. I had to engage with my supplies in a completely different way, as one would if filling a large canvas. I hope this is not the last large journal video because I'd like to see you let go and work big!
Love the way the circles with inktense and gesso came out. I was working quite small, then tried working A4, and now am going to try A5. Keeps you fresh to try different sizes!
This looks about the size of my journal. I do larger spreads on larger pages. Doing something smaller on a page so large leaves it looking very empty and when u add more it can make it look cluttered. and it is tiring trying to keep it uncluttered and not empty at the same time 😂 something else that works is a couple of big bright elements or statement images. Glad you tried the larger page. Looks good as always! Glad your still doing vids, most art journalists I watched a few yrs ago don't do anything anymore. Thanks for the continued inspiration!
Did you know you can easily clean your brayers by putting them into hot water with Biotex washing powder overnight. The paint just peels off, no scrubbing involved ! Loved this spread and didn't expect you to be intimidated by the big journal.. that surprised me ! Corrie xxx
I was your first “LIKE” today!! Yay!! Lol. I really enjoyed this spread. And especially the phrase. “Broken crayons still color”. I think that’s what it said. Either way, I love the meaning behind it!!
France you haven't killed the brayer, just soak in Murphys Oil soap os Dawn dish soap the blue kind. Works like a charm the old layers of paint just peel away. Hope this helps and now you can have extra brayers
these are the Rembrandt soft pastels. Not sure I will be adding any pastels to the shop at this point as it is not something I use regularly enough to endorse them ;) xx

Holy buckets!!! I was so overwhelmed for you but look how you came through!!! So totally inspirational. ♥️♥️♥️
Beautiful because of its simplicity

Yes, you did it. Big is beautiful 😊

I'll have to try that, thank you!! xx

Embrace the space! Have fun! I miss the beautiful colors that you had at the beginning, the pinks and lavenders.

Thank you for showing such a fascinating process of thought and application. I really enjoyed the whole video.

Gorgeous spread. I don't like to work larger than 5"x7" or 6"x8". I had an A4(81/2x11) for my first journal & I just felt daunted by all the space!
Haha! I never work on anything less than 8 x 11! I love having a huge surface, because I want to use ALL my stuff on it! Beautiful job as usual! TFS

Thank you for the tip Lori, I'll have to try that! xx
I love working big; I just got a SMALL journal to force myself to work on a smaller scale.
🤓I LOVE it ! Can you please tell me what the name of the pastels are you were using ? I tried your store but didn’t see them. Thanks ! 😊

Rubbing alcohol, soak the roller , you can scrape the layers off...

Ooh, def will try Murphy’s oil soap! No scrubbing is even better!
To big is just too dang big!
