- Game Description -
Root is a game of adventure and war in which 2 to 4 (1 to 6 with the 'Riverfolk' expansion) players battle for control of a vast wilderness. Like Vast: The Crystal Caverns, each player in Root has unique capabilities and a different victory condition. Now, with the aid of gorgeous, multi-use cards, a truly asymmetric design has never been more accessible.
The nefarious Marquise de Cat has seized the great woodland, intent on harvesting its riches. Under her rule, the many creatures of the forest have banded together. This Alliance will seek to strengthen its resources and subvert the rule of Cats. In this effort, the Alliance may enlist the help of the wandering Vagabonds who are able to move through the more dangerous woodland paths. Though some may sympathize with the Alliance’s hopes and dreams, these wanderers are old enough to remember the great birds of prey who once controlled the woods.
Meanwhile, at the edge of the region, the proud, squabbling Eyrie have found a new commander who they hope will lead their faction to resume their ancient birthright. The stage is set for a contest that will decide the fate of the great woodland. It is up to the players to decide which group will ultimately take root.
In Root, players drive the narrative, and the differences between each role create an unparalleled level of interaction and replayability. Leder Games invites you and your family to explore the fantastic world of Root!

Old co-hosts playing their favorite faction.
I found your channel because of root and I'm so glad you started playing it again!
Tbh I don't mind this type of content, find myself even more often clicking on it than at the huge 1-2h videos. But I still enjoy watching those
Thanks, I have to remind myself sometimes that sitting and talking can be worthwhile
NEVER move away from a game in your collection, unless you are ABSOLUTLY sure you will NEVER want to play it again. Of course if you need money or space, the situation change, but otherwise, keep the games you like, even if they aren't hitting the table!
Haha, we have needed both money and space :)
Root is such a GREAT GAME! When everyone understands how to play this game is a blast, and plays typically in less than 90 minutes. I have still not played with the hirelings. Interested in the new stuff to help 2 player games.
We taught everyone fresh last night. It was a 30-45 min teach / set up. Then the gameplay ran for about 120-140 min.
I am relocating from California to Ohio. I will be around the Cincinnati area but I am a school teacher so I will have times of the year that will be completely open to pop up to your area for a Tuesday night if possible!
Email me!
First of all, GREAT shirt
That’s funny, I’ve been rewatching your old Root videos lately. So many old friends Jan, West, Devon, Max of Tablenauts, Sean, etc. Great memories, lots of nostalgia for me, my passion for the hobby was at its highest at that time.
Rock on! I miss all of those guys :) Hopefully we can rebuild and continue to host some amazing games in the new space!
I was literally watching one of your Root videos earlier today. Very excited to see this!
Yay! Thank you! Glad to be diving back into this one :)
Love Root and so glad you are coming back to it. Your videos were one of the main deciding factors when thinking about buying Root originally.
Awesome! Thank you!
This video is great timing, not but 2 or 3 days ago I was thinking I needed to get root to the table again it's been a long while, and here you are with a video about getting it to the table. Coincidence, I think not!
Time for us both to get some Root played :)
Love Root! Teaching this at work. Also, can't wait for Arcs to arrive!
Where do you work? We have a full pledge on the way :)
I work with my gaming group. We play after work sometimes in the office. Yeah, same. If you enjoy it, do you hope to make any playthroughs?
Yep! Hope to have some next week (solo at first probbaly)
ROOT is my constant. It's the only game I've ever created fan content for (my avatar picture is my faction) and it's my consistent mobile app game player too. I'm a Corvid player most often, having graduated from the Woodland Alliance. Ultimately, I keep chasing "my next Root." I can honestly say it can't be found. It's the greatest war game of all time.
Yay!!! ❤
I don't need huge editing honestly. On a big review its nice, but most of the time if its just you in front of a camera? Thats plenty.
Noted! I think it’s just hard to remind myself of this . . . I always want to do the best I can.
Excited for the new content!!!!
Chipping away at it :)
Well Root was the game that led me to your channel in the first place. If you do more coverage I will watch.
More to come then :)
ROOT is my favorite game ever I love it in every way and would love to see some gameplay again
Working on some gameplays!
I'm excited I love root
Should have more content starting next week and moving forward after that :)
10 games - that’s the next 6 month focus of this channel :)
I’ve been waiting for years!!!!
Glad you have been around :) hopefully the wait will be worth it!
Did you stop in the middle of a game of Final Girl to film this? I'd be going crazy putting boxes on top of an active game myself.
Haha, No, I filmed this while setting up a third game of final girl :) so - not in the middle of a active game. Just, on top of a active studio set!
@@Quackalope Ah. I'd still have an issue putting things on top of a game I have setup, but if you aren't in the middle of it, then it's a lot easier to set up.
Hahah makes sense - an active filming studio is a bit different :) always a game in the way!
Hey there
ROOT! YESSSSS!
That game brings fun at the table (and on camera).
I can't wait too see some 4 players, 2 cameras old school gameplay of it.
And if you move your Tuesday night gaming session to Paris (yes, France), I'll join for sure. 😉
Old school gaming :)
Paris sounds great . . . Let’s meet in the middle? Paris Kentucky work?
@@Quackalope seems like a pretty fair middle ground. 😁
DOne XD
@@Quackalope Dude, I'm watching your acrylic standees video (although I don't even intend to play KDM) and I get a notification that you just answered here. Weird second or two as I felt surrounded by clones of you.
@@YogiBaldGuru We are . . . everywhere :)
Im excited for new Root content!
On the way :)
Aw man my two favorite factions are Lizard Cult and Underground Duchy!
XD The lizards are so hard to understand . . . get working
@@Quackalope Dom Swapping is crucial for making the Lizards feel competitive!
It really increases thier chances to score and makes them way more fun to play!
@@Magicman1625 good to know! I will have to give them a few fair plays coming up :)
Still my favourite board game. Haegemony second
Hot take: the otters are most comparable to the vagabond. You want to try to encourage other players to cooperate with you in the beginning, lay low, until your economy is strong enough to turn the tables on the players. My best games as the otters are always where I have four or so troops out for the first half, keeping prices low, and commiting funds from other players as often as possible. I let people know cool things they can do with my services and then start building a power block on two to four trading posts. Then I trutle up and score dividends, they need my mercenaries or boats yo get around my power block and my card prices are too low to resist
Oh . . . I love that comparison and you are 100% right
Is Cthulhu Wars on your list to play?
Would love to play it - come teach me?
@@Quackalope
Lol, would love to, but I live in the UK!
Root is still in my top 5 I usually play on the app these days tho I just hope they have plans to add the newest factions
The app is great and at the same time pulled a lot of people away from the ttg I think!
@@Quackalope Very true I love Root but the setup is a lot with all the landmarks, advanced setup, hirelings etc..
It's all great stuff but now makes it feel overwhelming to setup each time.
With the app now having advanced setup it streamlines it but mainly I like the app because it allows me to play Root with my friends more often
@@Magicman1625 Yep, I just try and get offline as much as I can . . . so to the table and long setups I go!
Ive seen a lot of people losing hope that theyll add the expansion to digital. Personally I will drop the digital game if they dont. The maruaders add so much, and hireling and landmarks... I was disheartened to hear so many people losing hope so I reached out to dire wolf and got an email that said
"We're always looking for ways to improve our games and that includes bringing as much content from the tabletop as possible."
What does "as possible" mean in this context, i dont know. But personally I am taking it as a good sign, but I am extremely bias.
@@Magicman1625personally we dont play with hirelings or landmarks much. Set up does take a min, but once you know what youre doing its pretty easy.
Hirelings seem to add a bit to the game, especially time. When I did play with hirelings we narrowed it to easily set up/understood hirelings.
For landmarks the same, usually an agreed upon landmark is used then randomly placed. Or something like lost cities on moutain map instead of tower.
this type of video is way better. Not a big fan of some of the other angles and far away shots it's hard to see on my phone
Uhhh can't say I get the notion of "having" to sell unused games. Maybe if you do have like 50+ games it becomes a question, but for someone who has 3 at this time (Root included), it's a weird thought. Anyway, if you really want to get rid of games - garage sale? :D
Also, Root Digital is officially on Steam and is probably a solid way to teach the game.
Digital games are good for flow and strategy - but they hold your hand a bit too much with rules to transfer on the table (In my experience)
And I had about 700+ games when I was trying to clear and sell :) so . . . Yea
finally
Back we go :)
I really like the woodland alliance.
Don’t like the lizards, or otters
Haha, Everton has their faction :) you would be a good fit at my table then!
@@Quackalope I play on the app if you ever want to get a game going? It’s a good way to learn all the factions.
Isn't this the guy that was extorting publishers for money?
Never happened. I am the guy who got lied about on Reddit and Twitter last year, company lost 250k+ and we (everyone who worked for the channel full time, myself included) went and found full time jobs.
If you’re genuinely curious I’m happy to talk about it - If you just want to stir up drama go somewhere else.
On winning games when teaching, yeah, dont win too fast. But i find winning allows the players to reset and fix errors they were making along the way. I tell them we are getting more games in dont worry, its about the process.
I also take advantage of terrible errors, leaving building undefended usually to show it was a really bad miscalculation, but that doesnt usually happen.
By the 3rd game in I usually start losing and trying diff strats. Versing new people is a different ball park. They do not have the same way of thinking, they are not "optimized". Love seeing what ideas they pull out.
The new strats i try keeps it interesting for me and makes the other players feel like theyre not versing some person who is handicapping themselves, which I am not, I really do just suck sometimes...
It’s a balancing act - I think the part I felt guilty about is just how conditional all the scoring systems in root are (so I got a lot of points quickly)
Granted everyone was there at the end! Just, I should not have been the winner if I had held back or they had known more
The game is just full of King making which completely destroys the game for me.
Wow you really lost some weight👏 you need to gain a 🐦 though ;)
I am down about 15 pounds :) still hoping to loose another 15!
Hair growth specialist here. I recommend 1mg of Finasteride and 2.5 mg of oral minoxidil everyday. You will get some density back. I also highly recommend a hair transplant if it bothers you. The hair restoration network can answer any of your questions and you can see actual videos and pictures on people looking into hair loss, what does and doesn’t work, as well as before and afters of hair transplant results. Good luck homie!
I should preface this by saying it’s very unlikely you will get any hair in your front region back from taking medication. And also I’m not a bot haha, just a dude who suffered hair loss and had a highly success transplant. Anyways, always enjoy the vids, keep it up!
XD this wins the (how do I know you watched the video) challenge
