My late grandfather was a very successful, self made entrepreneur who came up from very humble roots. He always said, You have to be good to the people on the way up (ascendancy) as you are going to see those same people again on the way back (descendency). In other words, never burn bridges with people as you never know when times change and you may well need a helping hand. To answer your question, what am I doing here? Want to add another one I've observed: Reposting obvious old vacation photos pretending like they went to vacation a lot of times while it was just one time but posted one at a time to give that impression one frequently goes on expensive trips. Old money hardly has a social media account because it's an information hazard (IRS and tax).

Very good advice for living within your means. The wealthy and rich actually loved showing of their luxury brand clothes and handbags decades ago but decided it was tasteless as soon as the masses got their hands on them as well, fake or real. There are also many wealthy people who are just as cringe in showing off their wealth, although it’s not exactly a good time to be conspicuous. ‘Upper class” wealth doesn’t always necessarily equate to real “class” either, let’s not forget the a famous airline heiress who literally had a tantrum on a plane over a bag of “nuts”. There are people with or without “class” at all income levels. Only issue with this content is that it seems to imply that all wealthy people are somehow superior in all aspects, when in truth there are many tasteless and ignorant wealthy people as well.
Add this to the list: They pretend to be upper class but their diet is junk food and soft drinks, their fridge is half empty and they cannot cook a healthy meal.
@@katemiller7874 Warren Buffet would be the outlier, the exception to the rule. You would think adults would understand this. I read a statement that said: You can pretty much tell someone's social class by how much sugar he/she consumes in a day... and, for the most part, this is true. There's a reason why, statistically, obesity is associated with lower-income people. Are there overweight wealthy people... sure... but, they're also the exception, not the rule.
I came across this video & watched out of curiosity, because I grew up as a (relatively) rich kid, and our public school was made up of mostly wealthy neighborhoods, mixed with a few lower middle class neighborhoods. I’m naturally an observer - I stood back & watched the other kids more than I participated, and I remember always noticing that the lower middle class kids would follow the rich kids around, trying to impress them, which used to annoy me. In this video, she’s right about many things, but not all. For example, I’ve always been a disorganized, messy person, so being messy doesn’t always indicate that someone is poor. (I’ve gotten better about tidying up, as I’ve gotten older). Also, I don’t agree with your comment about gluten. My daughter has Celiac disease and gluten can cause very serious problems for her. Also, gluten sensitivity is more than just a trend - it has become a more common problem, because of all the toxins in our environment, combined with the fact that wheat DNA is very different now, than it used to be, a thousand years ago. Environmental toxins combined with genetic engineering have caused wheat DNA to mutate over the last century or more, so it’s no longer the healthy natural food that it once was. Last, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re being a phony, if you like gold & glittery decor. It can sometimes just be a matter of personal taste, plus that kind of decor goes in and out of style, but it doesn’t always mean that someone is pretending it’s real gold - they might just think it looks cute.
To this I also add that not all people with money will get things fixed right away, or at all, especially with cars. If you've hung onto a car long enough and after putting substantial money into it over time to keep it running, you won't care about fixing little things that don't affect the car's ability to run, like cracked window glass or tail lights, dented bumpers or body panels, small tears or holes in the upholstery, etc. After a certain length of time and a certain amount of money, most people regard a car as destined for the boneyard, and you stop fixing things.

The place where I work now brings in a LOT of extremely wealthy people. I came in one day and saw a man there to pick up his car. He was older, overweight, dressed in ill-fitting disheveled clothing - sweat pants and sweatshirt. A nice guy and unassuming. He was there to pick up one of his Lamborghinis. Over the next few weeks he sent more in to be serviced. He owns freeway billboards.
Nice, and to think Alux always comes at the overweight. Alux says that rich people are in excellent shape and always dressed properly, they wouldn't dare be fat or wear dishelved clothing, lol.
I'll add one: "McMansions". People who take their ordinary (in the case of my neighborhood) split-level homes, and trick them out with additions, dormers, columns (mentioned), fancy landscaping, pools, cabanas, etc., to give the appearance of wealth, when in fact, it's just the same house as the rest on the block, and they will likely never recoup the money they dropped on the "upgrades" when they go to sell. Often accompanied by the leasing of expensive and/or trendy cars. Yes, I have a next-door neighbor EXACTLY like this. 🙄
While I attended a rather expensive all female academy….for our area…I almost fell over when a former friend described it to a person we were speaking with as ….basically a finishing school!!!!! We took all the usual high school classes as the kids in public school, with a lot of Latin and French thrown in. Narcissistic social climber.

I couldn't care less what people think. Brands and designer labels mean those designers found a fool!!! I'm not swayed by what someone has or who they supposedly know. I'm impressed by how people treat one a other, how they treat animals, what their character is.
I've had issues mainly with numbers 10, 12, 13, and 14. I'll start reading a book or working on project, then stop doing it when I lose focus or it gets "too complicated." Then later when someone asks me about it I'll act like I completed or say I'm still working on it, even though I abandoned it. My phone's screen isn't cracked, but I do need a new screen protector because that is cracked. My car door has been damaged for awhile and I have too many things in my possession that I don't need which ironically are stuffed into my car. I have a bad habit of trying to act and sound like I know more than what do. I'm not a dummy, but I feel like I need to prove that every time I'm around people. Alux is right, we do try to sound smarter than we are so people won't write us off as incompetent. I've learned that you can redeem yourself if you appear dumb from the start, but if you hide your lack of knowledge and it's later discovered, you'll have a harder time trying to convince people that your not ignorant. 😂I loved this one and being in the high end public relations consulting business for over 20 years found many examples. However one story I love to share is about TED TURNER, who founded a company called CNN. I was visiting his office one day when I happened to see a old beat up TOYOTA in his parking place. I immediately told Ross his secretary and she just laughed. Yes it was TED'S car!
In southeastern Michigan there was a local man who was extremely wealthy. He sold a car wash to my old boss' dad back in 1980. When my boss took it over in 1996, that old man still owned the adjacent properties. I worked there from 2006-2015, and we'd often see the old man I'm a beat up, dented Dodge Ram truck! He'd eat his sandwich out of a brown paper bag. He was a cantankerous old crow, but he never showed he had money. His wife however lived it up. Always dressed to the 9's and driving fancy cars.
And my old boss.. He's easily worth over ten mil, and he still wears ugly sweaters from the 80's and 90's. He us super sharp and clean, but one would never assume he was wealthy.
Yeah. Warren Buffett drove the same car for years! I know a man worth millions. He drives a Model Y Tesla. Not an X. In fact, all the rich people I’ve ever known, were very low key. The only time they ever dressed up was for special occasions.
The most obvious one is when someone thinks being rich means spending money on x, y, or z. Ironically it’s usually thought about the overpriced small ticket items. To anyone with money, these things are inconsequential. To anyone mindful, they aren’t worth the money. To anyone with both these characteristics, they are a gag. At the end of the day the difference between the rich and the poor is how much money they have. Which isn’t necessarily correlated with how much money they spend on such common activities. So if you really want to act like the rich, you need to have more money, not spend more money.

Nice dig at the eastern europeans. We are actually raised to dress nice when we go out in public. We have a set of "public" clothes vs "home" clothes and we always make sure others see us in our best. This might be seen as not classy or showing off but it's just our culture. People pretending to be high class are agressive when you're not in accordance to their beliefs and think nobody else in a conversation has something to say or could be correct about subject, even when someone else should be right they're not giving it to them...

It only means they can afford the first couple of payments. After it gets repossessed they'll be taking the bus to your house and will be taking you to McDonalds for dinner."
Sometimes one must fake it until they make it. Spend to keep the teeth perfect but wear a cast off tee shirt Spend on good eye glasses, good hair cuts, wear the same 3 Levi's for a year while spending on education.
I did the taking picture in first class and going back to economy class once because my mom wanted to make sure I was in first class. I told her I am and went back because I'm a hustler right now. While I can agree with this to an extent, I never saw the need, even as a middle class guy to live like a bhudist monk. Jewelry cars and clothes are made to be enjoyed, by people that can afford them, and like them. Look how we live our own lives, do you need to eat out on occasion, do you need a tv, or a smartphone? Probably not, and even some of those things are luxurious to someone. I mean, we only have one life, who cares how people spend their own money, as long as thier not using it to kill people, or go overboard trying to flex on people, that’s thier business. I will say I enjoy wearing quality clothing however nothing is displayed on it ever! I work hard and my husband and I thankfully are high income earners. We are not flashy at all though. He sews patches on his jeans and wears his work boots all the time. I like the feel of quality clothing because I’m not always having to purchase cheap clothes so much and so frequently. The key is to purchase a few key quality pieces and add them to your wardrobe. These pieces will never go out of style and are timeless. Quality clothing I prefer is not trendy.
COST. I have been very fortunate to have wealthy friends who accepted me into their worlds. The Pearl's of Wisdom are priceless. Most of what you taught they have shared with me. One friend, in particular, showed me humility while being wealthy. He would often drive around in an old beat up pickup truck and dressed very modestly. When my young ignorant poor self asked, "Why dont you drive a fancy car? You can afford it!" He replied, "The fact that I know I can afford it at any time, to know I have all my needs met and my families is enough for me. Who am I here to impress anyway?" This has changed my life and gave me a whole new approach and view to ALL things.
I know 6 billionaires, and they never "show off". Their reputations speak volumes. Most live rather mundane lives, drive good but not outrageous cars, they don't ordinarily call attention to themselves. However, most wear average clothes, but they do wear good, top quality watches that don't bring attention. In short, they seek to impress themselves not others.
I remember riding the subway in a certain city years and years ago overhearing college aged commuters going on loudly about their $200 sneakers. Or that grating feeling that everyone sounds like they talk from cue cards just to carry on their conversations of importance.
but could it be they are just excited they paid for their own shoes for the first-time college is first time away from home adulting. Its possible they also could have come from a family they never got new shoes had to suffer with uncomfortable hand downs so feeling pride in earning a paycheck finally being able to own a good pair. I notice with the Jordon sneakers obsessed crowed they were low-income kids that had parents that could not afford a good pair of sneakers. They worked hard to try to get out of poverty cycle and that is something to be excited about.

Don’t get me wrong- having joy over something accomplished and purchased after years of sweat and stress and sacrifice and strained relationships is one thing, but pretension and faking it till one makes it is a whole other area. To avoid possible backlash I lived in a certain well known city for 12 years before moving out to humbler rural surroundings out west. Having gone to college, finding my career and being surrounded by individuals who couldn’t really afford anything other than a shared rented duplex and the occasional craft brew/food court pad thai) I have a solid idea of hipster culture without making too many false assumptions and judgements. Much like I had habits of eating out at the hippest places, I can say with 99.9% confidence those sneakers were bought on credit, much like urban consumer culture has and usually is bought on credit. Actually the entire city is bought on credit, and that’s scary.

There is money, but not enough of it, so heavily dipping into debt/credit/loans etc pretty much past the point of no return gives people a false sense of power…an illusion to make it look like they can afford things, to achieve relevance and fake wealth….living in said metropolitan city pushes consumption and overspending like crazy. Always has. This discussed city is trying really hard to show the world how cosmopolitan and relevant they are as a city, globally, but risking debt/overspending in the process. where the pied piper leads, the mice follow, unfortunately. Yeah I know it’s wacky. Now I live in a city where costs are affordable (maybe a bit too frugal but better that it’s in that direction!) which is great, because where I am now has excellent potential for building wealth.

I bust out laughing because he doesn't usually talk like that🤣 He's very low-key. He dresses like he has no money. I've bought him several Ralph Lauren shirts. He said he saves them for "special occasions"🤦🏽♀️It's not just him either, I know a few millionaires, who wear very basic clothing, borderline poor looking. They don't want the attention.
The average person expects the rich to fly in private jets just for fun, wear the designer clothes and be an a-hole. But there are different people in class "rich". Many of them just look like a totally ordinary guy. I know a multimillionarie and he has 15 grey t-shirts and 4 different jeans. 1 Jacket and 1 coat for the winter and a Timex for 50 $ on his wrist. That's it. Very kind person. I was once with him out for getting to know women, when he told a woman he's filthy rich. She never wrote him back on Instagram, where he doesn't even has a profile picture. He's still single and I believe he never again told a woman. So I learned if you don't impress with your money, nobody really will be interested - at least if you look and behave like ordinary average guy.
The fake rich or fake high class can never tell you specifically what they do. Nor can they have an in depth conversation about their so called specialty that made them so called "rich."
It is important to remember that one's worth and value are not determined by their social class or financial status. Everyone deserves respect and dignity regardless of their background.
I never believed in diamonds and thought it's a waste of money. Recently though, I purchased a sterling silver cocktail ring with CZ stones from Goodwill and I love it! It's okay to wear these things in moderation if they make us happy. It doesn't mean one is pretending---it's the wiser choice as I laugh my way to the bank. Keeping our hard-earned wealth intact is more important to me than buying stupid blood diamonds.
I love jewelry but I am like you I think diamonds are way overpriced and the market is taking advantage of people. Cubic zirconia is just as pretty and if it's damaged or lost it won't matter so much
Cost! I’ve grown up around these “Great Pretenders,” for years. But I’m of the mindset that if they want to a appear rich, more power to them. I call these people “tutor the turtle.” They try to be what they aren’t. But it’s better than being tacky and classless. Thanks Alux.
When I lived in California, I used to get really tired of these pretenders. When I moved to another state in a working class neighborhood, I thought, finally! Real people I can deal with. However, after a while, I realize the majority of them are racist, bigoted and willfully stupid. It’s like they went out of their way to act like trash. So, I think being around pretenders is better. At least they try to be better.

Though i don’t like pretenders who are showy either, but I still prefer them over the former. Wasn’t it Oprah that said “act as if…act who you want to become”. Or something along those lines.
As a Brit there are 3 things upper class people can do - ski, ride a horse and Scottish Dancing. You could also add shooting, sailing and going to the opera/ballet/classical music concerts and art exhibitions. I have also yet to meet an upper class person with 'food fads'.
Most rich people I know downplay their wealth because it a) prevents them from having a normal life, and b) puts them at risk from attackers. They drive modest cars, wear sensible classic clothes, and are discreetly generous.

Great Vid!!!! When I go to shopping ...such as the grocery store, I never ask the cost of what I want, I just buy it. I am comfortable spending for an item that has value/ quality and is what I want.
I know some very wealthy people. One of them gets his amusement by buying things as CHEAPLY as possible. We got a 988 Caterpillar Loader with counterweights and forks for 10 cents on the dollar. We got a Wiggins forklift for a small fraction of full price. Same thing with a heavy-duty trailer and several tractors. He would NEVER brag about over-paying. He would be embarrassed by it. But when he gets a good deal, get ready for a story.
This is so true I live in Mexico and there is a place called Las Lomas de Chapultepec the most exclusive area and people aren't flashy or show off the fact that they have money,you can tell just by looking at them it shows,no matter how much you try to look rich the less you look like it.
A good one would be: They think money would solve all their problems. When you solve the money problems you were distracted by all that is left are the problems you can’t solve with money. Problems that no amount of money can solve. These problems are that much more hopeless.

I know a multimillionaire with yellow teeth. Heavy smoker and coffee drinker. He told me, he has big difficulties sleeping, because the markets crush his sleep rythm all the time. Other to that he looks like everybody else on the street. Kind person too, but only god and himself knows how much of stress he has.
Number 3 is onpoint! I do not wear anything that has name brand on the front... If they are not paying to advertise then I won't! Avoid brands that have largest print all over.

I must be a sigma male. I honestly don't care about my image. Good personal hygiene, being economically sound, mentally competent and free from fake societal structures makes a person high class. All of the money in the world won't turn a sinner into a saint.
I know a fake-rich couple who would go on vacation with money they don't have, telling themselves one of them was going to get a job promotion at work (15 years in waiting, that is) but the opportunity never came. Now they just sit at home in their big empty house, doing what they do best--avoiding everyone and each other.
I have been interested in upward social mobility since I was at age 15 given a copy of " The Luella Cuming Studio Course in Social Awareness, Poise, and Gracious Living." I grew up in the most affluent area of our city. Because we were perceived as "rich kids" we were shunned by the other kids. We stuck together out of necessity. Having money certainly didn't make us popular.
Point 1 - You touched on this but it's not that hard to learn to properly open a bottle of champagne or sparkling wine without wasteful spraying of COSTly product or sending a a cork flying across the room to hit your friends. Point 2 - there are a bunch of free RUclips videos out there that will tell you how to pronnounce a word if you're not sure. I've corrected my own pronuciation many times.
There are two ways of opening champagne, hold the cork and twist the bottle - it should sigh like a contented lady or to mark an occasion, with your sabre.
I have a number of fine jewelry pieces, but I do have a few “costume” pieces that “look real” that I wear when I travel (like gold and platinum over sterling silver and lab-created stones). If it gets stolen or I lose the piece, I’m not bothered by it. I say that because not all people buy “fake” jewelry to pretend flex. Sometimes people have “fake” dupes made of their valuable fine jewelry or they buy the “fake” jewelry for security reasons.
If you need "an incentive" for something, that's a clue you don't have it yet. Once you've achieved your goal, then whatever was "the incentive" becomes "the reward." Giving yourself rewards just for having good intentions doesn't work.

"Luxury clothes but bad skin or teeth." I disagree with this one. I tried getting my teeth fixed once (because they're distilrotated), and it turned out the total cost of Invisalign is well in excess of $5000. On the other hand, I was able to get a bunch of designer clothes at TJ Maxx for less than $200 total. Designer clothing costs a tiny fraction of what getting your teeth fixed costs, so it makes sense to have one but not the other. Also: "#1: Flaunting your wealth." What are you talking about? Rich people flaunt their wealth all the time. Why do you think Bugatis and Lambourginis are a thing? The reason you don't see them posing with wads of cash is because that's what hoodlums do. That doesn't mean they don't engage in conspicuous displays of wealth. If they didn't want to flaunt their wealth, they'd just drive Suburus like everyone else.
In Japan, I still see some people, mostly ladies, carry shopping bags from high end department and luxury stores instead of the actual product from those stores. Even worse, when giving presents or thank you gifts, they will put the gifts in high end shopping bags. I noticed that those with money will present the gifts in a well wrapped fashion without the luxury shopping bag.
I can think of one similar to 13 and 14: Self-righteousness. These people love to GIVE correction but not GET it. They nitpick every aspect of your existence. I live in Palo Alto, Ca. The majority of wealthy people here dont iwn expensive cars, yet live in beautiful houses. Many people with expensive cars live in a dump.
Cost. Do people really go to first class to take a picture of themselves? I knew someone who always shopped and then some more. I later discovered that she had a few second mortgages on her house and had to take money to the table when she sold it. I thought she was fairing better than me. she had all the appearances of a high class life and was drowning in debt. I was shocked.
I remember my Grandmother would go around in older clothes and older shoes, she had an old car... she would say, "you have to live like you don't have money to keep the pest away".... when she died we found out that she had over $600,000 in 6 different banks, over $1.2-M in her brokerage account, and owned land all over that sold for about $700,000 total... my Aunt got her house...she lived to 90 and had a great life...of course I watched all her kids blow all her net worth after she died in less than a year...my Mom gave her whole share to charity that helps feed and house orphan kids overseas...
Okay, but if someone likes the look of a particular brand name garment or accessory, but the price doesn't agree with their budget, I think finding a passable knock off (but NOT a counterfeit) is definitely a good strategy for getting the look they are after. Going deeply into debt is low class and NEVER acceptable.
There are actual knock offs that are BETTER quality than the name brands; smaller , boutique artisans and so on. For example, getting a handbag from an Italian artisan hand- crafter is often way better than purchasing from a luxury or designer brand and much smarter price point.

Many years ago I worked for a antiques company and we used to have high class people call by, as a result we would have 'wannabes' call - On the whole they were rude and would try to make you look stupid. The wealthy and rich actually loved showing of their luxury brand clothes and handbags decades ago but decided it was tasteless as soon as the masses got their hands on them as well, fake or real. There are also many wealthy people who are just as cringe in showing off their wealth, although it’s not exactly a good time to be conspicuous. ‘Upper class” wealth doesn’t always necessarily equate to real “class” either, let’s not forget the a famous airline heiress who literally had a tantrum on a plane over a bag of “nuts”. There are people with or without “class” at all income levels. Only issue with this content is that it seems to imply that all wealthy people are somehow superior in all aspects, when in truth there are many tasteless and ignorant wealthy people as well.

I came across this video & watched out of curiosity, because I grew up as a (relatively) rich kid, and our public school was made up of mostly wealthy neighborhoods, mixed with a few lower middle class neighborhoods. I’m naturally an observer - I stood back & watched the other kids more than I participated, and I remember always noticing that the lower middle class kids would follow the rich kids around, trying to impress them, which used to annoy me.
In this video, she’s right about many things, but not all.
For example, I’ve always been a disorganized, messy person, so being messy doesn’t always indicate that someone is poor. (I’ve gotten better about tidying up, as I’ve gotten older). Also, I don’t agree with your comment about gluten. My daughter has Celiac disease and gluten can cause very serious problems for her. Also, gluten sensitivity is more than just a trend - it has become a more common problem, because of all the toxins in our environment, combined with the fact that wheat DNA is very different now, than it used to be, a thousand years ago. Environmental toxins combined with genetic engineering have caused wheat DNA to mutate over the last century or more, so it’s no longer the healthy natural food that it once was.
Last, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re being a phony, if you like gold & glittery decor. It can sometimes just be a matter of personal taste, plus that kind of decor goes in and out of style, but it doesn’t always mean that someone is pretending it’s real gold - they might just think it looks cute.

To this I also add that not all people with money will get things fixed right away, or at all, especially with cars. If you've hung onto a car long enough and after putting substantial money into it over time to keep it running, you won't care about fixing little things that don't affect the car's ability to run, like cracked window glass or tail lights, dented bumpers or body panels, small tears or holes in the upholstery, etc. After a certain length of time and a certain amount of money, most people regard a car as destined for the boneyard, and you stop fixing things.

I've had issues mainly with numbers 10, 12, 13, and 14.
I'll start reading a book or working on project, then stop doing it when I lose focus or it gets "too complicated." Then later when someone asks me about it I'll act like I completed or say I'm still working on it, even though I abandoned it.
My phone's screen isn't cracked, but I do need a new screen protector because that is cracked. My car door has been damaged for awhile and I have too many things in my possession that I don't need which ironically are stuffed into my car.
I have a bad habit of trying to act and sound like I know more than what do. I'm not a dummy, but I feel like I need to prove that every time I'm around people. Alux is right, we do try to sound smarter than we are so people won't write us off as incompetent. I've learned that you can redeem yourself if you appear dumb from the start, but if you hide your lack of knowledge and it's later discovered, you'll have a harder time trying to convince people that your not ignorant.

However one story I love to share is about TED TURNER, who founded a company called CNN. I was visiting his office one day when I happened to see a old beat up TOYOTA in his parking place. I immediately told Ross his secretary and she just laughed. Yes it was TED'S car!
In southeastern Michigan there was a local man who was extremely wealthy. He sold a car wash to my old boss' dad back in 1980. When my boss took it over in 1996, that old man still owned the adjacent properties.
I worked there from 2006-2015, and we'd often see the old man I'm a beat up, dented Dodge Ram truck! He'd eat his sandwich out of a brown paper bag. He was a cantankerous old crow, but he never showed he had money. His wife however lived it up. Always dressed to the 9's and driving fancy cars.
And my old boss.. He's easily worth over ten mil, and he still wears ugly sweaters from the 80's and 90's. He us super sharp and clean, but one would never assume he was wealthy.

I know a man worth millions. He drives a Model Y Tesla. Not an X. In fact, all the rich people I’ve ever known, were very low key. The only time they ever dressed up was for special occasions.
The most obvious one is when someone thinks being rich means spending money on x, y, or z. Ironically it’s usually thought about the overpriced small ticket items.
To anyone with money, these things are inconsequential. To anyone mindful, they aren’t worth the money. To anyone with both these characteristics, they are a gag.
At the end of the day the difference between the rich and the poor is how much money they have. Which isn’t necessarily correlated with how much money they spend on such common activities. So if you really want to act like the rich, you need to have more money, not spend more money.

I will say I enjoy wearing quality clothing however nothing is displayed on it ever! I work hard and my husband and I thankfully are high income earners. We are not flashy at all though. He sews patches on his jeans and wears his work boots all the time. I like the feel of quality clothing because I’m not always having to purchase cheap clothes so much and so frequently. The key is to purchase a few key quality pieces and add them to your wardrobe. These pieces will never go out of style and are timeless. Quality clothing I prefer is not trendy.
COST. I have been very fortunate to have wealthy friends who accepted me into their worlds. The Pearl's of Wisdom are priceless. Most of what you taught they have shared with me. One friend, in particular, showed me humility while being wealthy. He would often drive around in an old beat up pickup truck and dressed very modestly. When my young ignorant poor self asked, "Why dont you drive a fancy car? You can afford it!" He replied, "The fact that I know I can afford it at any time, to know I have all my needs met and my families is enough for me. Who am I here to impress anyway?" This has changed my life and gave me a whole new approach and view to ALL things.
I don't agree with some of this. There are plenty of rich people who want people to know they are rich.
I know 6 billionaires, and they never "show off". Their reputations speak volumes. Most live rather mundane lives, drive good but not outrageous cars, they don't ordinarily call attention to themselves. However, most wear average clothes, but they do wear good, top quality watches that don't bring attention. In short, they seek to impress themselves not others.

Now I live in a city where costs are affordable (maybe a bit too frugal but better that it’s in that direction!) which is great, because where I am now has excellent potential for building wealth.

I said, "Dad why do you always carry your things in an old plastic bag, people are going to think you're poor!" In his Southern drawl, he says "I don't give a dam, I'm a millionaire." I bust out laughing because he doesn't usually talk like that🤣 He's very low-key. He dresses like he has no money. I've bought him several Ralph Lauren shirts. He said he saves them for "special occasions"🤦🏽♀️It's not just him either, I know a few millionaires, who wear very basic clothing, borderline poor looking. They don't want the attention.
The average person expects the rich to fly in private jets just for fun, wear the designer clothes and be an a-hole.
But there are different people in class "rich". Many of them just look like a totally ordinary guy.
I know a multimillionarie and he has 15 grey t-shirts and 4 different jeans. 1 Jacket and 1 coat for the winter and a Timex for 50 $ on his wrist. That's it. Very kind person. I was once with him out for getting to know women, when he told a woman he's filthy rich. She never wrote him back on Instagram, where he doesn't even has a profile picture. He's still single and I believe he never again told a woman.
So I learned if you don't impress with your money, nobody really will be interested - at least if you look and behave like ordinary average guy.
The fake rich or fake high class can never tell you specifically what they do. Nor can they have an in depth conversation about their so called specialty that made them so called "rich."
It is important to remember that one's worth and value are not determined by their social class or financial status. Everyone deserves respect and dignity regardless of their background.
I never believed in diamonds and thought it's a waste of money. Recently though, I purchased a sterling silver cocktail ring with CZ stones from Goodwill and I love it! It's okay to wear these things in moderation if they make us happy. It doesn't mean one is pretending---it's the wiser choice as I laugh my way to the bank. Keeping our hard-earned wealth intact is more important to me than buying stupid blood diamonds.
I love jewelry but I am like you I think diamonds are way overpriced and the market is taking advantage of people. Cubic zirconia is just as pretty and if it's damaged or lost it won't matter so much

Cost! I’ve grown up around these “Great Pretenders,” for years. But I’m of the mindset that if they want to a appear rich, more power to them. I call these people “tutor the turtle.” They try to be what they aren’t. But it’s better than being tacky and classless.

When I lived in California, I used to get really tired of these pretenders. When I moved to another state in a working class neighborhood, I thought, finally! Real people I can deal with. However, after a while, I realize the majority of them are racist, bigoted and willfully stupid. It’s like they went out of their way to act like trash. So, I think being around pretenders is better. At least they try to be better.

Though i don’t like pretenders who are showy either, but I still prefer them over the former. Wasn’t it Oprah that said “act as if…act who you want to become”. Or something along those lines.

As a Brit there are 3 things upper class people can do - ski, ride a horse and Scottish Dancing. You could also add shooting, sailing and going to the opera/ballet/classical music concerts and art exhibitions. I have also yet to meet an upper class person with 'food fads'.
Upper Class only means millioners and billioners some upper class dont like sports and eat in macdonalds.

Most rich people I know downplay their wealth because it a) prevents them from having a normal life, and b) puts them at risk from attackers. They drive modest cars, wear sensible classic clothes, and are discreetly generous.

Great Vid!!!! When I go to shopping ...such as the grocery store, I never ask the cost of what I want, I just buy it. I am comfortable spending for an item that has value/ quality and is what I want.
I know some very wealthy people. One of them gets his amusement by buying things as CHEAPLY as possible. We got a 988 Caterpillar Loader with counterweights and forks for 10 cents on the dollar. We got a Wiggins forklift for a small fraction of full price. Same thing with a heavy-duty trailer and several tractors. He would NEVER brag about over-paying. He would be embarrassed by it. But when he gets a good deal, get ready for a story.
This is so true I live in Mexico and there is a place called Las Lomas de Chapultepec the most exclusive area and people aren't flashy or show off the fact that they have money,you can tell just by looking at them it shows,no matter how much you try to look rich the less you look like it.
A good one would be: They think money would solve all their problems.
When you solve the money problems you were distracted by all that is left are the problems you can’t solve with money. Problems that no amount of money can solve. These problems are that much more hopeless.

I know a multimillionaire with yellow teeth. Heavy smoker and coffee drinker. He told me, he has big difficulties sleeping, because the markets crush his sleep rythm all the time.
Other to that he looks like everybody else on the street. Kind person too, but only god and himself knows how much of stress he has.
Number 3 is onpoint! I do not wear anything that has name brand on the front... If they are not paying to advertise then I won't! Avoid brands that have largest print all over.

I must be a sigma male. I honestly don't care about my image. Good personal hygiene, being economically sound, mentally competent and free from fake societal structures makes a person high class. All of the money in the world won't turn a sinner into a saint.
I know a fake-rich couple who would go on vacation with money they don't have, telling themselves one of them was going to get a job promotion at work (15 years in waiting, that is) but the opportunity never came. Now they just sit at home in their big empty house, doing what they do best--avoiding everyone and each other.

I grew up in the most affluent area of our city. Because we were perceived as "rich kids" we were shunned by the other kids. We stuck together out of necessity. Having money certainly didn't make us popular.
Point 1 - You touched on this but it's not that hard to learn to properly open a bottle of champagne or sparkling wine without wasteful spraying of COSTly product or sending a a cork flying across the room to hit your friends. Point 2 - there are a bunch of free RUclips videos out there that will tell you how to pronnounce a word if you're not sure. I've corrected my own pronuciation many times.
There are two ways of opening champagne, hold the cork and twist the bottle - it should sigh like a contented lady or to mark an occasion, with your sabre.
I have a number of fine jewelry pieces, but I do have a few “costume” pieces that “look real” that I wear when I travel (like gold and platinum over sterling silver and lab-created stones). If it gets stolen or I lose the piece, I’m not bothered by it.
I say that because not all people buy “fake” jewelry to pretend flex. Sometimes people have “fake” dupes made of their valuable fine jewelry or they buy the “fake” jewelry for security reasons.
This is a great idea and I do this, don't take my best items on trips.
I think treating yourself to a high end item is alright it can be an incentive to create the financial portfolio you want -
If you need "an incentive" for something, that's a clue you don't have it yet. Once you've achieved your goal, then whatever was "the incentive" becomes "the reward." Giving yourself rewards just for having good intentions doesn't work.
Is a lot easier being a secret millionaire. No expects you to contribute, no one thinks you're worthwhile robbing, no one is with you for interest.

I disagree with this one. I tried getting my teeth fixed once (because they're distilrotated), and it turned out the total cost of Invisalign is well in excess of $5000. On the other hand, I was able to get a bunch of designer clothes at TJ Maxx for less than $200 total. Designer clothing costs a tiny fraction of what getting your teeth fixed costs, so it makes sense to have one but not the other.

What are you talking about? Rich people flaunt their wealth all the time. Why do you think Bugatis and Lambourginis are a thing? The reason you don't see them posing with wads of cash is because that's what hoodlums do. That doesn't mean they don't engage in conspicuous displays of wealth. If they didn't want to flaunt their wealth, they'd just drive Suburus like everyone else.

Even worse, when giving presents or thank you gifts, they will put the gifts in high end shopping bags. I noticed that those with money will present the gifts in a well wrapped fashion without the luxury shopping bag.

I can think of one similar to 13 and 14: Self-righteousness. These people love to GIVE correction but not GET it. They nitpick every aspect of your existence. Especially on personal and trivial matters. They'll end the conversation to avoid being stood up to. Refuse to reconcile, but quick to confront you. "All in the past" only goes THEIR way.
They want to control you with harsh, relentless criticism. They hate you for your thinking ability or determination, and hide their insecurity with ridicule. If they see this video they'll think it's about you. Better off without them! 🌄😊💯👍

I live in Palo Alto, Ca. The majority of wealthy people here dont iwn expensive cars, yet live in beautiful houses. Many people with expensive cars live in a dump.
Using a personal loan to pay for any spending like a vacation should almost always be avoided.
Cost. Do people really go to first class to take a picture of themselves? I knew someone who always shopped and then some more. I later discovered that she had a few second mortgages on her house and had to take money to the table when she sold it. I thought she was fairing better than me. she had all the appearances of a high class life and was drowning in debt. I was shocked.

I remember my Grandmother would go around in older clothes and older shoes, she had an old car... she would say, "you have to live like you don't have money to keep the pest away".... when she died we found out that she had over $600,000 in 6 different banks, over $1.2-M in her brokerage account, and owned land all over that sold for about $700,000 total... my Aunt got her house...she lived to 90 and had a great life...of course I watched all her kids blow all her net worth after she died in less than a year...my Mom gave her whole share to charity that helps feed and house orphan kids overseas...
Okay, but if someone likes the look of a particular brand name garment or accessory, but the price doesn't agree with their budget, I think finding a passable knock off (but NOT a counterfeit) is definitely a good strategy for getting the look they are after. Going deeply into debt is low class and NEVER acceptable.
There are actual knock offs that are BETTER quality than the name brands; smaller , boutique artisans and so on. For example, getting a handbag from an Italian artisan hand- crafter is often way better than purchasing from a luxury or designer brand and much smarter price point.

Many years ago I worked for a antiques company and we used to have high class people call by, as a result we would have 'wannabes' call - On the whole they were rude and would try to make you look stupid. The wannabes would wear nearly new designer clothing (country style clothing not street) we had one say to his Gfriend 'bring the Porsches over darling'. My god Ive never such a clap trap pile of shat in my life there wasnt a panel that didnt have rust!!!

One of my ex-co-workers said I was a millionaire because I have paid my house off. I thought yeah sure. One of my other ex-co-workers mentioned that no-one would know that I was a millionaire. So true as no-one does. I dress in jeans, t-shirt and wear a jersey on top and drive a Ford vehicle.
