Watch her hands. See how she makes it look easy? That's how you know it's unbelievably hard, and she's just a flat-out incredible talent. Not many people can play at her level.
Just saw Charo in concert for the first time, last night in Las Vegas at the South Pointe Casino. She blew me away! She is so fantastic, as a singer, guitar player, and all around entertainer. Her energy is unbelievable! She is 73 years old. I am 56 and could no begin to keep up with her. Of all her talents, her guitar playing is what is most impressive. She could play with anyone in the world. She puts on a spectacular show. I have seen a lot of shows and this ranks as one of the absolute best. If you have never seen Charo in person and get a chance, take it. She is amazing!
When I was very young you would see her as a talk show guest and she would come across like she was simple minded but that was because she was not so sure of her English. She was much younger than her husband who was a famous band leader. They probably fell in love with each others music.
What a guitarist. So good. And Wow she still looks amazing!!! she looks like she is half the age she is. She has been around since before color television.
I remember this woman from my childhood. She was everywhere!!! What a remarkable talent. Beautiful, funny, witty, bigger than life, and a talented guitar player to boot.
I remember her playing on Johnny Carson and her talent was overshadowed by her character persona. America only knows her as the coochie coochie lady. I never liked that character, but man what a talent on the guitar!
People today have no appreciation for how many thousands of hours of work (practice) it takes to reach this level of expertise. They only see the 5 minutes of fame and say how easy that life must be. We have been spoiled by RUclips and confirmation bias. Rock on, Charo!
Absolutely amazing flamenco player! And I agree why the hell are all those people talking during such a great performance. They have no clue is all I can say. At 70+ she’s still just as good… what a talent!
I remember watching her play back flamenco in the early 1960s. She was introduced as just 17 years old. I was probably 12 or 13 at the time. I later learned that her date of birth was 1952. How could she be that much younger than I? Over the years, I've heard her dates of birth as in 1940, 1942, 1946, and 1952. I don't know if Charo herself knows for sure. Whatever. The lady is a prodigy!
This woman was a little girl when her parents shipped her off to a conservatory to protect her from civil violence. From a young age she studied guitar under the one and only Andres Segovia. She's without doubt, one of the finest guitarists walking the planet and has been for decades.
@@MegaKat Over time she has claimed several different birth dates covering a 10 year span and even conflicted claims within short periods of time. The 1951 claim is questionable (married to a 60 year old man at 14 or 15?) but her claims of 1947 and 1949 may be more likely.
Roy Clark and Charro both play this piece exquisitely. Roy pretended to not pronounce the piece name correct and Charro couldn't be understood. Great piece. My vote goes to Roy for execution and with no band backing. She is such a master.
I admire her for sticking to her career. She’s been playing that song for over 50 years. Listen to the people talking in the background. That is so rude. Someone is up there giving their heart and people can’t be courteous enough to be quiet.

This woman’s talent stuns me. She survived and then thrived in a world of sexism and chauvinism. The “hoochie coochie” bit got her in front of the cameras and, in fairness, maybe she exploited that for her own self-interest. But I fear she tolerated it because she knew it was the only way to get proper recognition in the male dominated entertainment world. Her guitar skills are amazing, and always have been. It’s a shame she couldn’t get that recognition without the sex hype early in her career. (But who wants to hear a guitar when T&A are being pushed on all available media. 😡😡😡) Charo, you’re a musical genius!!! Thank you for your extreme dedication to the flamenco guitar!! Flamenco is easy. Would like to her her solo, on classical pieces, without the distracting band accompaniment.
Andres Segovia was her guitar teacher when she was a child. It still shows.
