  • This is a review of a the Retekess TR639 turntable. The new 2-speed turntable has Bluetooth capability meaning it can play directly to a Bluetooth speaker with out any connecting wires. However, it is also possible to connect it to an existing hi-fi system. Last but not least, it is fitted with a quality Audio Technica AT3600 cartridge

    That looks really good value. I used to have an Audio-Technica cart (not that one) on my old Thorens turntable, and I did a modest upgrade to another AT cart (again, not that one). It gave good service and produced a nice rounded sound (from what I remember). I'm now in Pro-ject/Ortofon OM10 territory (still a modest set-up) which sounds a bit brighter. I exchanged warmth for clarity (well, that maybe bit of an exaggeration). Anyway, that Retekess deck looks like a good way to test the water for anyone with a good ear who is curious about vinyl - the kind of person who might get put off by the performance of that common-but-horrible type of player.

    Sorry but the best budget turntable in the world without any form of competition is the Stanton T direct drive it is a proper professional grade turntable for a measly 140 Canadian dollars and direct drive. Never ruin your records by using those cheap crappy suitcase imitation Crowley things those cheap needles wreck vinyl sound like dead animals humping and the TR is rubbish no offence. Never ever ever waste vinyl on Belt drive never belt drive is a major no no for a true vinyl lover. If tin sounding is your thing and 90% loss of true quality well cuff' said Accept no other imitation measure twice cut once baby!

    For me, ATLP60BT was my first turn table and it was so wonderful. It was really easy to use. The best part is auto return. I currently have technics 1200 GR with auto lift mechanism installed and I really don’t need to buy any more turntables but I will always miss that auto return….. and yes I actually sometimes miss the Bluetooth connectivity as well, I’m not kidding. It helped me detect how bad some of my Beatles LPs sounded up close with my headphones while I was busy cleaning up the house doing laundry (far away from my wonderful listening room).
    This turntable in this video looks very good. It looks like it has counterweight, anti skate and it looks upgradable but I get a little scared when people drop their stylus on the record with their hand like that (because that’s exactly how I scratched my record and it still hurts), instead of just shutting down the lever letting the stylus fall gently.

    For what it is, it’s actually not bad. But…….you could buy a really good vintage turntable which, Bluetooth apart, would out perform this sonically.

    • @BilisNegra
      @BilisNegra 4 месяца назад

      For this price you could buy a decent (not super great) vintage turntable maybe... But one you for which would typically need a new belt and stylus (sometimes the full cartridge) to start with, and that's if it works flawlessly and does not need any other kind of maintenance, in which case it will cost you more (bar the very odd case where the seller does not know what they're selling).

      I recently bought a fully refurbished Dual CS 505 and it's outstanding... OK cost me 265, but it's worth spending a little more on a vintage player as they are so much better...

    It's a good looking TT, especially for the price. Recordology reviewed it and he found it had a couple issues (tonearm, cartridge azimuth, noise). For an entry level TT an AT60 or similar for a little more money may be a better choice.

    The Bluetooth turns the uncompressed hi definition audio into a much more compressed low definition digital signal! I would recommend hard wiring for complete uncompressed sound, plus putting anything that vibrates ( speakers for instance) is not a good idea! With physical music you want to "dampen" a outside vibration as much as possible! We only want the audio vibration! That's my 2 cents!😊

    I feel the dealbreaker for buying a more expensive turntable for new collectors is the hassle of having to get a preamp, amp, speakers, space, etc. the Crosley suitcase design is perfect and cheap too, $50 or so. This turntable is a perfect step up for those people, a nice Audio Technica stylus, Bluetooth, belt drive, pitch control, as well as the option to have a line out. This is what keeps would consider to be the perfect second step before investing in a mid-high price range setup. Great video as always!

    I personally recommend the AT-LP120X with the red micro-line stylus. That coupled with a Pro-Ject
    VC-E record cleaning machine I've had astounding results with my record transfers. After careful de-clicking in iZotope RX, in once case I had a 45 that was graded as (F) Fair on Discogs which I got for next to nothing (I wanted it simply to have a copy) and apart from a few scraping sounds near the end of side a, the b-side sounds like it could've come from the master tape (genuinely, not hyperbole).

      Budget audiophiles don't buy turntables. At least, they shouldn't. Turntables start to sound good enough to hook up to audiophile electronics at around the £1000 mark. If you're budget limited you're far better off with a CD player. If you're not budget limited... Well you're still better off with a CD player, just by a lesser margin.
