    I fired my sponsor after the first year and left AA the 2nd year. I am Sober 8 years now and I believe only because I got as far away as I could from the toxic AA cult.

    You make some very great points. Several years ago when I first started the program I lived in an oxford house. I met my sponsor there but it took several years for before he became my sponsor. I guess what I’m trying to say is that I saw all of the progress and success that he amassed in life and finally decided that I wanted what he had. Crazy how that works. I appreciate you and your videos. Thanks!

    I started recovery st 28 yrs old, I dont like when I hear men sponsoring women or women sponsoring a man ♂️, to easy to romanizing the relationship.

      I agree the men should stick with the men, and the women with the women.

    You posted another video about how you left AA because of resentment. It would be best if you were more honest.

      You misunderstood. I do not have any resentment toward AA and that is not why I left.

    Man I want this info, but the squeaking in the background is really preventing me!

      Sorry, Emily. I'll have to do another video at some point that doesn't have the noise pollution.

      I feel the same. I finally found the video about sponsors that seemed legitimate but the background sounds are really distracting

    A lot of sponsors are criminals.

      Yes, true. And, a lot are not.

    Do you even need a sponsor? People on RUclips state you don’t even though in programs it states you do…I read someone was 20years sober without a sponsor.

    • @DRKJFOSTER
      @DRKJFOSTER  2 года назад +1

      Hi Judith. I would recommend having a sponsor take you through the Steps. I would imagine that the person who has 20 years sober may not currently have a sponsor, but most likely had a sponsor guide them through the Steps. It's not something I recommend attempting to do on your own.

      @@DRKJFOSTER i don’t know someone posted that on RUclips that he never had a sponsor and was 20years sober

      You know how you could dig a trench with a spoon but it’s a hell of lot easier if you use a shovel? It’s the same with sponsorship. It’s another tool to make your sobriety easier. Why make it harder on yourself?

    • @Change_Everything
      @Change_Everything 9 месяцев назад +1

      It’s impossible to objectively evaluate yourself without the help of someone else. I mean you’re often blind to most of your own behaviors and that’s why you need guidance. The point is, if you knew how to get and stay sober on your own, why didn’t you stop on your own?

    My sponsor Gil wants me to start sponsorship asap once I get at least a week of sobriety which Id like to if someone needs my help.

      I think you can do service and provide support, but you can't take someone through the Steps if you haven't been through them yourself yet.

    • @ninibren
      @ninibren Год назад

      I agree. To be a sponsor it is recommended that you have completed the steps yourself.

    The sponsorship thing where the sponsor has a sponsor has a sponsor sounds so nice and cozy but if you need a coach to guide you through recovery l would highly recommend you find someone in a professional capacity where there's a lot more accountability.
