  • This video has better close-ups of the techniques used to shape the door, carve the stones, and hollow out the window. Cottonwood bark is famous for wood spirits and fairy houses, why not castle towers, churches, and lighthouses? And the woodburning techniques bring out the texturing from the carving tools. Combining the two is something to experiment with!

I always end up carving longer than I mean to in a sitting... it's always just one more cut here... another few here... oh, this bit, shave that there... okay, I'll take a break...... after I fix this bit... half hour later... lol

Online for sure, but if you have cottonwood trees in the area, you can go find your own.

Where did you get that vtool

The one with a wooden handle is Flexicut, part of a four-piece set of scorps that are amazing. The one in the jacknife is called the Carving Jack. Both were purchased at Lee Valley. I always prefer to pull my vtool than push it. =)

Love cottonwood carving. Love the idea. Only complaint is whoever the drummer was on the song you used needs to have his/her splash and crash ride cymbals taken away
