  • Thanks to Woodcarving Magazine for the awesome how to article on carving a 'comfort turtle' out of wood. I of course used Cottonwood bark! It's a good whittle for learning about planes, and experimenting with different tools to get the same look. Finished with homemade beeswax oil, this little whittle is a pleasure to hold in the hand.

Love that you used cottonwood we have that here in AK and it's tough to find some of the carving woods that you see in videos... I have been thinking about getting into carving but the lack of wood options has had me hesitant. May just give it a try now that I know I can use local woods

Amazon has a lot to select from! FYI if you need a kit as well, look for some by Beavercraft. They'll have a coupon code on one of the pictures of it, use it and you'll get a set of 10 basswood blocks for under a dollar.

I enjoyed your video. Can you tell me the carving tool you are using at the 6:44 mark in the video? You are cleaning out the grooves you just cut with a knife. Thanks for posting this video.

That tool is part of my scorp set, and I love it! It's basically a v-tool you pull instead of push. The set of four scorps is from Flexcut, comes with the v-tool and three sizes of gouge or scoop.

Good night, I am learning to carve in wood and I noticed that you have a very peculiar tool and I would like to know where I buy your tool, especially that multitool that has many accessories for carving, if you can give me a point of sale where to get it, I would appreciate it too much.

Check my channel, there are videos of bark hunting in Alberta and BC, Canada, that show you what to look for, and one all about poplars. You can also order bark online from several sources. It is, rather obviously, my favourite! 😎
