And then August is her as an older woman reflecting on her carelessness, and recognizing, “he was never mine.” The deep chorus of August reminds me of an older woman, who is now thinking back on her choices, which she realizes were wrong..though she looks back with some enchantment at the man in the memory. “So much for summer love and saying is, you weren’t mine to lose.” Getaway car - which is already a song about running away from a relationship, with another guy - describes her IN THE MOMENT, when she’s younger, believing she’s going to be with the guy... the voice is higher pitched. Like Selena Gomez, Miley Cyrus and other artists have that nasal-sounding that they didn't have when they were younger. That nasal sound is from doing drugs, specifically coke. Taylor's singing AND speaking voice sounds almost exactly like she did years ago. It might sound different due to the different genres and her growing range, but mashups of her new songs and older songs really showcase how she doesn't abuse substances.
