- Three hornpipes taken at a modest pace - the first two are well known and probably trad, the last is one of my own. Apols for the dodgy edits joining the tunes. The mandolin is Ceol Binn Taistealai, made by Dave White (www.defaoiteguitars.com) and is on a player evaluation road trip around the UK. You can find out more about the road trip and the mandolin and hear more music played on it by me and by others at www.acousticsoundboard.co.uk, an independent UK based acoustic forum - a warm welcome awaits.
I recorded the backing track on Feileacan Taistealai - a small sapele bodied guitar also made by Dave White.
THAT..............is a great sounding Mandolin. Nice warm, thick tone. Great for Celtic tunes.Good job picking.
Thank you - and yes, lovely instrument. It was just passing through when I did the video, but after the tour around several players I was fortunate enough to be able to buy it! Yay!
Harvest Home, Boys of Bluehill very popular hornpipes here in Ireland as are many Scottish reels. Very well played. From North East England tradition I think. Thanks so much.
Thanks for watching and for your kind words - much appreciated.
Beautiful music.
Thank you kindly!
Excellent great tunes Fantastic playing Top of the range Mandolin Really enjoyed
Brian Corcoran Thank you Brian - kind of you to drop by and comment!
Splendid, Mr C, just splendid!
Thanks Phil - I'm liking it more and more as the strings mellow!
thoroughly enjoyed it. great job.
Lovely job as usual Keith. Nice warm sound from the mando. Cheers.
Really enjoyed that Keith, great sound!
Kind of you to say so pg123fish - thanks! I enjoyed a quick browse through your channel!
Thanks Eric - yes, the neck is 34mm wide at the nut - 4mm wider than my Fylde mandolin. Dave, the maker, has designed this instrument to be easy for guitarplayers! I like the extra space, which makes a lot of things easier, though not so easy to splodge one finger across two string pairs. The frets are from guitar fretwire, which feels good too!
Thank you for posting Keith. You’re so talented! Beautiful playing. Musicians have brains! 😁👏👏👏
@@samuelmarlow1969 thank you for your extremely kind comments!
Thanks Glynboy - now I'm multitasking too!
Kind words Ray, thank you so much. Sorry if you're now going to incur extra expense, but mandos are a lot fun, and very portable too! Have fun.
Thank you Paul. It actually would be splendid if I could play all three through fairly mistake free in one go without having to do each separately. Mind you, there's still a fair few goofs doing them separately! ;-)
I really like that third tune. Any music for it?
Thanks Paul. No music I'm afraid - I struggle with dots - the tune is in my head and my fingers. The vid makes it pretty obvious what I'm playing though, I think - that's how I remember it anyway!
