I've always used Penn Jigmasters on both my surf rods - a 16ft and an 18 ft.- for 30 years already. I STILL get the occasional 'overwind' - maybe 1 cast in 10 - but not nearly as bad an overwind as when I first started. I've always looked to where I wanted to land my bait when I casted - but I'm going to try your tip of looking up to improve the release angle Thank you!

Visvang in Suid Afrika. Lekker. White steenbrass, elf, and galjoen were my faves. How does casting distance with these multipliers compare to the newer tall spool spinning reels (Spinfisher Long Cast, Daiwa Emcast+ Surf, Shimano Ultegra, etc.). Dankie en stywe lyne almal.

My only real question was not addressed in the video and that is at what exact point to release the thumb from the line during cast to release and allow the flight, how much to lift your thumb off the line while it is running and at what point to clamp down again... once it hits the water or just before? Thanks for an otherwise very informative lesson.

Why you cast with the shock leader all out of the reel? At list 4 turns on the spool.
