I have watched all of your videos, they are excellent, especially the wide angle shots that include mountains and multiple tracks (and sometimes trains). It is like having a train set without taking up all of the space (and money!) LOL! Good job!
Great job Zachary! Quick question...have you ever thought about railfanning here in texas? Theres a BNSF yard in saginaw and a UP yard in Fort Worth :P
Hi Michael- these are unit trains of ethanol to be blended with gasoline for California. The train you see here is headed out of the LA area and is almost certainly empty. Both UP and BNSF run these unit trains between the Midwest, where corn processors generate unit trains of ethanol, and different points in California where the refineries are located. The hopper cars on each end that are in between the locomotive and the train itself are captive to the train and serve as buffer cars in case there is a derailment and explosion/fire. Please note that there other unit trains of tank cars including ones carrying crude oil. To my knowledge, these do not necessarily have buffer cars since the crude oil is less flammable. A great example would be the UP's oil train that runs up the Southern California coast to King City, CA. Thanks for taking the time to watch my videos! There are lots of channels offering great content and I appreciate you choosing to watch mine.

Did you catch the NS 4001 at any point? Or was that in 2017?
1:12:23 I see a lot of tanker trains like those, in which it has one or two box cars in front of the tanker cars. Why are they set up like that?
