The raw talent that both these dudes had is almost unbelievable. 8 of the Top 10 Heavyweights in 2000 - 2010 would’ve got a boxing Lesson from these guys.

You don't see matchups like this in the division today. Or in general. Tillis was Dundees new "Ali"..was 2 rounds from winning the title just a year prior..and survived Shavers right hand just one fight prior..schooling earnie for most of it. Pinklon was one of the most talented Heavies of all time...but extremely green in comparison. Which made the victory all that more impressive. The amount of losses James would rack up, doesn't tell the story of how good he was. And Thomas out of the ring struggles kept him from being one of the eras dominant heavyweights..though he still was quite the champ and contender for some years.

My respect for Pinklon Thomas just went up to the max. As he got off being a heroin addict starting from age 12.

Pinklon Thomas became a very good heavyweight and a good champion. He was a game fighter with a champions heart.♥️
Great jab, a Hard! Jab. Shame Holmes never fought him battle of the jabs plus be a great battle of wills too.
Holmes would win in the end though but they recon Holmes did infact avoid him.🥊

Great fights but James tillis is mainly effective in the early rounds and gets tired and slow in the later rounds which should have been worked on. Pinklon Thomas missed a huge knockout opportunity at the end of the seventh round.

I watched it live. I'll never forget Angelo Dundee exhorting Tillis, "shake your legs! Shake your legs!"
