- The little cormorant (Microcarbo niger) is a member of the cormorant family of seabirds. It forages singly or sometimes in loose groups in lowland freshwater bodies, including small ponds, large lakes, streams and sometimes coastal estuaries. Like other cormorants, it is often found perched on a waterside rock with its wings spread out after coming out of the water. In its breeding plummage, it's entire body is black.
This video, captured at Rabindra Sarobar (Dhakuria lake), shows a little cormorant sitting on the branch of a tree in broad sunlight - drying the body feathers. I noticed that the throat of the bird is vibrating constantly. Very amazing.
