Without efforts on retention, foreign nurses will quickly realize how messed up Canada is. Foreign nurses will do the minimum and leave. Thank you Canada for the extra incentives, its been a great stepping stone for a better job elsewhere! Don't even ask how the existing nurses will feel.

@@Rooted_Locs When we see staff being treated like robots and drones rather than individuals by employers even in good times, it's no surprise that they'll go where they are more valued especially in an employees market. I have seen this in nursing off an on over the years and know some very good specialized nurses that quit or retired early during covid because of it due to valuing self preservation and family over work. Not all nurses are doormats, or martyrs.

Burnout, staff shortages, too much tasks, etc. Are the problems they do not fix. Looking for nurses outside is not the solution. Fix working conditions for local nurses!

I live in Moncton, NB and the healthcare really messed up. Healthcare workers are working around the clock and short-staffed making wait time from 10-15 hours and surgeries anywhere from 1-3 years.

But I even have a price. If you paid me 150K a year, I might consider. Now if one gave me access to a lear jet twice a week, then I would live in NB , but still would only spend as much little time as I could in NB.

Here we go, instead of the provinces implementing a wage enhancement for the nurses, like they did for the PSW’s in Ontario, they’d rather take nurses currently in the field from other provinces. Maybe look at the numbers of nurses leaving the profession because of the disgusting treatment they’ve dealt with for decades. Rather than worsen the situation in neighbouring provinces, try attracting people back into the field and retain the ones you have 🤦🏼‍♀️

@Jay7T6 Sure thing. Not letting anyone in with the sick to advocate for them, even when they are dying. Not doing triage, having people wait months to years for life saving surgery as a standard, firing doctors and nurses who won't get vaccinated for a 0.5% fatal virus who would otherwise save lives on a daily basis. This took many years to get so bad, and it was all chosen and accepted along the way.

It would be a start, but still not enough.
Create wages that attract RNs with a lot under their belt to the province not just from Quebec. Give them bonuses and higher pay for their specialized experience according to the demand. Pay them a type of isolation pay and bonus; yes NBers, NB is relatively in the middle of nowhere.
My friend that is an RN in BC is recognized for her skills and experience and never got a degree, yet gets very paid well above union rates and even teaches nurses at UBC with others that teach with a masters of science in nursing. Unheard of in NB.
The province needs to provide the resources doctors need to treat their patients they way they see fit and to do it in a timely manner. You'll find no lack of doctors complaining that they can't access the resources or have the resources to treat their patients the best way they see fit and is one of the main reasons doctors leave.
Get labs out of hospital and get something like we see in ON and BC; i.e., Life Labs, where thousands of types of tests can be done and you can view your results online within usually 24 to 48 hours.
Educate people on diet and lifestyles. NB has some of the most unhealthiest and unfit folk in the country not to mention inactive with some real poor eating habits. Before covid, about one out of three NB hospital beds were occupied with alternative level of care patients. Seniors and other especially with unhealthy lifestyles, put a burden on the system so when covid came along, it exacerbated the situation.
