I recently found the Congruent Angles Parody in my feed, loved it so much I compulsively began working on a cover just so I can use it. I chose DECTalkPaul instead of Defoko because there's already too many covers with her, also because I just realized there aren't anymore new Moonbase Alpha covers and I just thought "Why not?".
It's also because the retro aesthetic fits DECTalk's sound.
Makes mixing the thing really hard because I kept trying to make it sound as clear as possible like I'm accustomed to.
I'm running out of stuff to say, so uh, fun fact about this voicebank!
It was made from the same text to speech program that Stephen Hawking used known as DECTalk. It's pretty old too, like from the 1980s, so I thought it'd fit pretty well!
I also found an interesting story to the origin of DECTalk, more specifically, the Perfect Paul voice, which most of you know as the Moonbase Alpha voice! I originally had the story posted on a pinned comment, but it mysteriously vanished! ( ¤﹏¤ )

Thank you so much for 1 million views!!! It's crazy to think so many people love listening to something I made on a whim, I appreciate all your nice comments and kind words!
insane accomplishment !!! easily one of the best moonbase alpha songs
Homie I listened to this more times than I can count. You should considering more.
I am happy to say I contributed at least 500 of these views. My favorite cover ever!
At least half of that million is from me alone I swear lol
You did a great job!

This video was created using the power of J-Pop, Geometrical Mathematics and 1980s Voice-synthetization, how absurd is that?
@bruh and the voice-synthesizer is from 1983
In short, this is the last quarter of the 20th Century staring off into the niche musical future of 40/45 years forward.
The original also used a voice synth
@@YaGirlZero not an older one thats for sure
@@Yukiyonova and that is indeed completely unrelated, thanks.
This is unironically a good cover, this ver. of vocaloid is actually pretty good
I find it hilarious that a TTS program made for a game about how difficult it would be to live on the moon has seen more musical success than a lot of actual vocaloids. Thanks NASA.
@@gabelowe5285 the tts program is actually older than that. as stated in the video description it's called DECTalk, from the 80's
@@BethesdaCakeDelivery it was popularized by moonbase alpha tho
@@feintha It was popular in the 90s as it was the standard tts used back then.
@@feintha normie logic

@@RaySpartan315 Return of the king.
same lol
a world lacking in moonbase alpha is not a world i want to be a part of
I love the moonbase alpha voice genuinely
I love it more than any vocaloid
Something about it so melancholy and robotic yet so expressive in such a strange way that I cannot resist
The only tts I accept
You could hear like a pain in the voice as it sings
Aeiou is best vocaloid
It is a pain that resonates with me
It's the same reason I love it, you summed it up perfectly
This legitimately sounds like a vocaloid. not a text bot from a video game
1. It is a voice synthesizer, which is essentially what a vocaloid
2. the system was created in 1983, way before moon base alpha, it was only brought back by it
@@angelerror4086 still impressive as vocaloids are voice synthesizers created for the purpose of music being made with pitch and clarity in mind. This voice synthesizer was not originally created for this purpose or had the means to make it
@@harmonicaboi9668 but like, although vocaloid was made specifically for singing which means it works better than most synthesizer for singing, almost any voice synthesizer that can change pitch can sing. Like, how do you differentiate them in this song? This sounds like a vocaloid because they're essentially the same thing, and idk how that's special.
Sorry for my pedantism but I can't help but ask why
@@angelerror4086 its just impressive.
@@harmonicaboi9668 ok.
this gives me such an interesting feeling
I imagine an AI gaining sentience, but instead of the usual turning against humans, that it instead learns the feelings of humans
happiness, joy, sadness, pain, despair
all of it
and this cover feels like the AI learning such a specific emotion like the anxiety and depression that the girl in the original MV of Lagtrain felt
it learns to live
SOMEONE MAKE A MOVIE ABOUT THIS PLEASE THAT IS SUCH A GOOD CONCEPT
A robot learning that actually no, it is not infinite. For as much as humans pass on, so does the previous functions they had. Processes not passed on, some features not truly future proofed. Even then still learning not all upgrades are worth the jump forwards, corrupted what systems were once in place into pure obsolescence.
The process learns something the most human, Fear.
Fear of losing the past, Fear of not being enough for the future, Fear of not keeping pace with the present.
Shudappandtakemymoney I want to see a movie revolving this concept
@@professionalaccount8012 Hold on lemme get to Google Document
I like the idea of a purely peaceful detroit: become human film 💚
This cover made me feel a bit melancholy and I don't know why
It speaks with the voice of a man who well understood the smallness of man when compared to the infinite mysteries of the universe.
The video, I think is for the aesthetic
Made me feel like John Madden
@@grzegorzbrzeczyszczykiewic536 rest his spacefaring soul, he'll be our "hurrah!" once we find them aliens

英語が母国語の人が歌ったラグトレイン。
息が抜ける感じが独特でたまらん。
確かに!
The DECtalk voice gives this really high energy, almost desperate and frantic sound to the vocals that I really like, the chorus especially feels like it’s being belted out.
It’s an UTAU But I think that could actually be pretty easily mistaken though
Does Paul have a recommended range…? It’s pretty easy to get a deeper voice like Harry (other DECtalk voice) and I suppose you could conflate all of them together, the higher ones like Kit too. Paul is the face of DECtalk anyways.
i just want you to know this is actually the coolest cover ive ever heard, like my jaw dropped . keep it up dude i love it!!
Thank u so much! Really appreciate it (*~▽~)
This sounds unironically fantastic. The TTS turns a good song on its side and it sounds totally wild and artificial but super nostalgic and comforting, like an old Speak and Spell just HAD to fucking sing this song and vibe out.
Hey! DECtalk>Speak and Spell any day! Gosh, Speak and Spell is the old losing to the new(er)! DECtalk even natively supported choosing the pitch and duration of syllables and had some vibrato! And besides, to me DECtalk is more intelligible than some toy any day! >:(
*angy DECtalk fan noises, plox ignore lol*
John Madden John Madden John Madden John Madden
really love how the moonbase alpha voice works for this song
why is the vocals actually good, like there is actual emotion behind this voice.
That’s because it’s a UTAU actually using samples of the voice from the TTS program
This video and song make me painfully nostalgic and I have ZERO idea why. I've never heard the original song, I've never watched the films used in the video, I've never played Moonbase Alpha (legit had to look up what it was). But something about the vocals and visuals just hits me.
Did go check out the original Logtrain and loved it, but the vocals in this cover hit me with nostalgia where the original's don't.
Btw I love the dissonance created later in the song. Its on the perfect edge of being unsettling and melodic. Maybe its making me think of vocaloid songs back in the V1 days?
The most difficult thing with songs like this I find, is that it's hard to find songs that rival the mood. Looping for days on end it is!
Well, the background is from '76, and the tts was stephen hawking's
@@JeffrGeffr Yeah that's the thing...I was born in the 90's. I have zero attachment to ANYTHING in this video/song.
It's the harmonizations in this cover mixed with the 70s geometry film mixed with tts voice
sounds like an old AI in emotional pain, so much that their monotone voice is straining to contain it all
Probably voice it self. It's a lot of instances of it use that can stuck deep in memory.
The somewhat complicated geometric visuals in the background along with the vhs (thankfully not horror styled) visuals makes the audio feel weirdly fitting. This could easily have been a visual parody, as well, where it's just the astronauts but traced over the original animation and yet something about this feels like it's actually interesting. This shouldn't sound this good but then again we are in a strange time.
Also, I feel like there are subtle details in the visuals like the spirals circling onto the screen to the chorus. They overlap and, perhaps circumstantially, create a symbol like the radioactive hazard sign. Considering the theme of mathematics in the video and the topic of moonbase Alpha being about...well, space and science I almost feel like there's something eerily fitting about that. It creates a strange and subtle melancholy to see the rapid movement of shapes that either line up perfectly or just barely don't line up at all. Something is off about it, visually, and yet that same complexity and abstraction fits this cover strangely well.

Ikr it's so amazing
すごいなんか癖になる
Imagine someone doing this in the DECtalk program itself lmao. Outside of the editing, I can see this singing being possible in it. It's surprisingly versatile, if you have the patience to work with it for long.
deleted my comment cause I'm stupid and can't read
なんもわからないけど調教がすごいのは分かる
The old timey visuals mesh really well with the tts, making it feel like something you’d find well in the past
0:03 is my fav personally, like the voice + the tone is perfect
Journey to the center of a triangle is a mood title ngl, big mood.
I listened to this cover side by side with the original and the strange harmonies the tts gets with Kaai's voice are great. Well made cover
一度聞いたらまた聞きたくなる独特の調声が最高
Yooo this is sounds pretty damn cool
Love the robotic effect!!
This is actually really good for learning the lyrics because of how clearly the syllables are sung
please god, give me the answer about why my main screen in yt is only lagtrain

The first time I heard this song I thought it was crap but after the second and third times I can’t stop coming back to this song it is genuinely amazing and it’s sad that no more people can hear this song
I'm japanese but I think this intonation is perfect.
This was just... Wonderful! A very nice addition to my playlist! (And cool facts too!)
The fact this video exists makes me so happy to the point it cannot be described by words
Hah
This, more than the others using text to speech for covers, feels...mysterious. Like a new form of art, distinct from the component pieces.
I feel like this video should have several hundred million views more than it does.
i can't even describe how mentally devastating this cover is, even more haunting than the original. and the visuals are on fucking point
I can't hear the OG Lagtrain now, it just sounds so simple compared to this version.
UTAUの元ネタが分からないから平成初期の謎ビデオ感がすさまじい
This song ascended from what I expected to be a Meme cover to a cover I can say I like more than the original. The mixing is great. You have a gift here with tuning this voicebank. Use it. Please.
Thank you so much for the kind words! Your comment just made my day :)
This goes unfathomly hard and the math film(at 3:02 especially) add to the high energy feeling. Im gonna gonna to it again. Thank you so much for making this cover.
I like that lagtrain is now permanently associated with triangles
nasa man's voice genuinely seems to have more emotional range than kaai yuki
what the fuck
Узнал из видео больше, чем за 5 лет изучения геометрии в школе
Вот таков правильный подход, с подачей нефрагментарной(почти) информацией)
I can't bring myself to listen to the original, because I don't feel right knowing the utau was made of a child, but I love this cover so much. It also further expresses that lovely robotic side of utaus I so adore.
Friends : "What kind of music do you listen to?"
Me : "it's complicated"
Out of every version out there, this is my favorite.
Math educational videos are such an aesthetic
this is unironically better than the original, the abrasiveness of the voice complements the instruments every well.
NAH CUZ THE VOCALS SOUND SO GOOD major voice envy for me congrats
Is it just me or do I have a headcanon of Defoko and Paul being cousins? Or, Is that canon since they're both Text-To-Speech?
how tf would that be canon lmfao
@@pluviocore I don't know, I just do think that it can be canon since they're TTS, both made with the same technology, and techniques. But, well that's just going to be a headcanon.

This actually helped me in maths exams, thanks!
brah i was ROLLING when i found this MV first time, you've just PERFECTED IT with this cover
Imagine trying to explain this to the original animator or the triangles.
How can a moonbase alpha cover feel so emotional in those Inbetweeners?
The fact that you can make accurate Japanese with moonbase alpha text is crazy
Man, I’ve been sitting on this one for a few weeks listening to it time and time again and I keep having mixed feelings on it. It’s an amazing cover, the amount of work that went into it is something I can’t fathom (unless UTAU programs are easier than I think). Where it shines is in the verses, the inflection and tone is really well done for the most part. Where it falls short for me is where you used the voice to try and sing the melody parts, such as from 0:03-0:09 and 0:37-0:49. It feels like it takes away from the underlying song, and can be a bit harsh at times.
What gets me is that this could still be considered a Moonbase Alpha cover, despite none of the usual MA memes seeping in (aeiou, John Madden), which makes me think this cover was made to be taken seriously than as a long and well-made joke (huge kudos for doing the whole song, too). So the lack of any MA references kinda takes away from it being an MA cover, but only if the song is framed as a MA meme/cover. It could entirely just be that it‘s using a vocal software that just happens to be the same voice as in MA. Anyway I’ve rambled enough and I’m hoping this needlessly long comment never sees the light of day

a lengthy reply, and perhaps a little pedantic, but I get where you're coming from. I noticed the difference in tone- using DECtalk myself, its usually a bit softer somehow. Nonetheless, this cover is great, and finished a lot sooner than I will.

The day after the night I first listened to this, the power in my entire town went out for about 2 hours

Математически великолепно, просто волшебное, завораживающее зрелище. Гениальная работа!
Honestly? I love the crinkle of their voice it scratches my brain right epic
Unironically love the voicebank…
this is so underrated, why does nobody talk about this
I literally cannot stop nodding my head to this
I'm so happy this exists

I have not seen moonbase covers in so long. This is fantastic👌
It's great that you opened with having Paul harmonize with the instrumentation, it really tells you right out the gate that this is a quality song.
Wow moonbase alpha voice just fits so well!
Somehow the journey to the center of a triangle video just fits perfectly in my mind for a John Madden-ified Lagtrain.
I have acquired triangle lore
I'm so impressed how good you managed to make dec talk sound

This makes me unexpectedly happy, for no reason at all. Maybe it's moonbase alpha? Probably. Last time I checked, it had no servers on. Thanks for keeping the meme alive.
I'm just surprised there's not a moonbase alpha bad apple
Someone should 100% make DECtalk Paul an official vocaloid it'd be funny
That’d become my favorite one lol
Imagining a space suit guy that just acts like a lil meme gremlin
I already made anime Paul.
I... uh... regret it partially, as now I feel I can't tell people of it without feeling awfully weird. I mean, I now imagine him as a nerdy Renaissance man who helps raise Miku and fails at tech support and has daddy issues on top of covering his room in glowing stars and watching football and it's driving me insane. I mean, I also make him wear the spacesuit for his public persona as an indie singer! This is fine! I saw someone make IBM attractive! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA-
*death*
HOLY SHIT
this is such a banger and the MV is amazing omg
I discovered the original through this cover, but this cover is a marked improvement on an already great song. The synth sounds just make it so damn engaging to listen to.
I've never lerned about triangles this much in my life, good video!

The music with the visuals is so mesmerizing to watch
Never thought i would hear this voice again. Nice work!
I'm sorry if I sound like a kid but god damn this sounds like echo from gusher WD Ghaster ver. The voice and the distortion, and the vocaloid themes
Whenever I see this video, the visuals make me feel like I’m about to be hit with something more powerful than Sephiroth’s Supernova, and I love it
