Please, don't even feel you have to say sorry for not having uploaded in a long time. We're not that kind of audience. We're here for your authenticity and because we love Mossy Bottom. You don't count as a ''content creator'' to me, just a man sharing his incredible daily and simple adventures. I'm deeply sad to hear of Moss' passing. I also had to put pets down and it hurts in the soul. Time will heal, but he'll never truly leave you! Lovely to see you back.

I'm really struggling with this. Your channel changed my life. You enabled me to accept my lack of traditional career ambition and embrace without shame the fact that I'm simply not made for that world. I started a garden in the yard of the humble home I'm inheriting, and it's the most rewarding thing I've ever done. I love Mossy Bottom and would buy it in a heartbeat if it were possible for me. I'm heartbroken to lose Moss and to leave Mossy Bottom. I'll follow you to your next home and I wish you the best, but I'll be homesick.

    You changed my life.
Hi Daniel. I'm sorry to hear that you have lost Moss. I am sure he will be missed by all of us who watch your channel. With this news, I want to try and bring you a little joy by telling you how your videos have made a positive difference in my life. I learned the word 'permaculture' back in 2010 and realised that this was what I had been searching for for years. I grew up in the Isle of Lewis, Scotland, and I bought a house and croft here so that I could hopefully start trying to live self sufficiently. Unfortunately, I have worked at sea my whole adult life which was preventing me from being able to realise this dream due to being away from home for weeks or months at all times of the year. I was too afraid to give up the security of that job, wondering if I would be able to make ends meet without it. And I wasn't happy there, finding the work very stressful and unrewarding.
After watching your videos, particularly those where you explain practically how and why you were able to give up the rat race and the ways of going about living the self sufficient life, I finally found the courage to pursue my dream. Your message: "The pursuit of happiness, rather than money, should be your goal." was the moment that did it for me. I have now resigned from my job at sea, picked up work locally a few days a week with a garden designer and have started implementing the permaculture and homesteading lifestyle, growing a variety of crops on my croft.
I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your inspiration and I look forward to seeing more videos from your adventures still to come.
    Best regards, Barrie.
ps: How about the Highlands of Scotland as a possibility for your next homestead with Inverness being the closest city for your partner to find her own opportunities there? 😊

This was really lovely to read, thank you! And yes, I love the highlands (by blood I'm actually half Scottish) it's just a question of affording something within a reasonable commute of a large enough city.

A relevant quote I'm sure you're aware of and I feel you'd appreciate right now Daniel.
"End? No, the journey doesn't end here. Death is just another path, one that we all must take. The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass, and then you see it.
White shores, and beyond, a far green country under a swift sunrise."
Tolkien was a true wizard of words.

Finland is great place but has some BIG challenges 1.Freezing winters. 2) No sun shine for almost six months. Many people become depressed as a result during this period.
3)introverted locals which means making friends is almost impossible. When you are introvert you need others to not be introverts.

Hey Daniel--just catching up with your vlog. So very sorry to hear of Moss' passing. Most of us have been in your shoes at one time or another and there is absolutely no need to apologize for anything, least of all your being an introvert. You are who you are and we all love you for that. You gave Moss the best life you could and when it's time, it's time. Holding on and extending things 'for one more day' as you said, is selfish and cruel to Moss. You made the best decision you could have done at the time. It's incredibly hard to let go of someone who means so much to us, but that attachment is also a source of suffering. Be happy and relieved that Moss is not in pain and know that somewhere out there, he is still there for you, though perhaps in a different form. Many blessings to you, Daniel, and to your partner. I am so happy for you both!!

With the ongoing "reset" in all aspects of life, I think moving and moving closer to a larger city is the worst thing one can do but hey, love is blind, especially for the introverts who tend to put everything they've got into a relationship. As the time goes by, people change and some wake up and start to see the reality. I hope it won't be your case. RIP Moss

I also sold up and moved to rural Ireland after lockdown and 100% inspired by Daniels channel.
I lived for over 30 years in Germany and I doubt if a self sufficient lifestyle is possible there. Land prices are high and there are almost prohibitive laws and regulations that you won’t encounter in Ireland.
To integrate and become part of a rural community will be difficult unless you speak good German.
Even then you might struggle with the local dialect.
I couldn’t be happier after moving to East Galway. I’ve got a lovely cottage with 10 acres of land. I’m 55 and feel now that I’ve got a brilliant project for the rest of my life. The neighbors are extremely friendly and helpful, and the sense of freedom here is overwhelming.
I’m never going back to urban life and I think, Daniel that you’re making a mistake.
The community here is so strong that we could easily survive a zombie apocalypse.
Many thanks for your honesty and valuable insights.
    Choose wisely.

I know it's none of my business to say this but, you shouldn't leave this place, it's been your dream for so long to achieve it, I know you feel upset with the loss of Moss and feel overwhelmed with situations. But I think you should rethink your decision, please do. Because it may feel so upsetting that you may feel the need to accept the offer of moving away immediately, but I think you should take a break, then decide. I watched your channel for ages, seeing your face light up with joy when you were on your farm and gardening here in mossy bottom, it just feels weird to see you move because of how happy you seemed here. R. I. P moss ❤. Wish you all the best and I pleade you to consider my comment and read it.

I hope it works out for you. I did what my partner needed as she too was fresh outta Uni & wanting to get into work. I was several years older & had only a year prior to meeting her moved to where I wanted to be so I could have a quieter life near a quiet beach. 2 years into me having settled & setup my home etc I stupidly said we could move when she said the job she wants is near London. It was good for her, not for me, I hated it, I didn't even want to go out after a while because everything was busy & loud all the time. 5 years into the relationship we broke up & she had everything how she wanted it & her now career & I had nothing & had to leave & go somewhere I felt I belonged which was where I grew up. A huge step back from where I'd got to 5 years earlier.

RIP, Moss. I gotta say, as someone who lives in Finland, I do not think language would be an issue. We Finns speak fluent English (if you leave aside some senior folks). As a nation, we also love everything British and Irish. The housing prices are also very low at the moment, and there are a lot of nice places for sale in the countryside. As a bonus, our country has very clean soil and water/nature in general. Of course long and cold winters are a challenge to farmers, but it can be managed. I have a small farm myself in the Western Finland Province, but sometimes I think that I would love to move to Ireland, in a place just like Mossy Bottom. Maybe we should make a swap..? :D

Rest in peace Moss. You were a good dog.
Very sorry to hear of Moss’s passing.
Also so disappointed to hear you are walking away from your life’s work at Mossy Bottom. You poured your heart & soul into your little part of the world.
I’m a little confused as to why you have to move.
    Can Angela not work remotely?
And why would someone decide to date someone in rural Ireland if they know they cannot stay there?
It’s a bit like Yoko Ono breaking up the Beatles.
Maybe there is more to it than you can say, and maybe you yourself are not as happy in Sligo as you portray.
Anyway it’s shame, but you might find somewhere beautiful with a cottage ready to live in with less midges.
    Best wishes. Good dog Moss

Oh, Daniel. I'm so very sorry. As a patreon (Amanda Culpan) I've watched you and Moss for so long. In fact, you inspired us to make the move to Ireland from UK. We're coming in July to start land hunting. Also, we had to put one of our dogs to sleep on Tuesday because of cancer. Yes, like you, it was that decision of when was too soon and when was it best so he didn't suffer. My husband watched your video before me and woke me this morning to break the news of Moss' passing before I saw this video. Our hearts are with you at this time. I'm sure Mossy Bottom will be sold before we get to Ireland - who wouldn't want it? I'm going to miss not having the opportunity to pick your brains in person about what I should plant where. Watching your videos reminds me of the best years of my life living with my young son and my dog and cats on an island in Puget Sound. Many years ago, but I think of those days every single day. I let that life go too easily, feeling I had to pursue a career. I wish I had found a way to stay there and prolong that time even just a few years more. The career was hard work and stressful, and although it had some rewards it just wasn’t worth it. Think hard before you make that change. Although I wish you all the very best whatever you do. I’m sad to see the end of your adventures in Ireland, but look forward to watching you doing it all over again; wherever that may be. You mentioned that Ireland feels like your home and I’d like to take this opportunity on behalf of everybody here on this Emerald Isle to officially grant you the title of Honorary Irishman. (Quite the accolade for somebody born in England 😉). The passion you’ve shown for the country and it’s cultures over the years have been a joy to behold as a viewer. Also, the way you retold old Irish folk tales and legends would make even the finest Seanchaí (Irish storyteller) proud. Hello Daniel , My heart breaks hearing the news about Mossy, grief has its own path which must be followed until we come out on the other side, Never forgetting but moving on as life always does!
I lived in Streedagh doing what you are doing now. I had to move and husband has now passed. There is never a day (25years later) that I don't miss Ireland, It is unique, just special and so are the people!
Whatever you do I wish you and Angela all the very best doing what makes your heart sing!!

Since I first found your channel during the Pandemic you have been a surjourn and constant in how to live an authentic life while enriching and stewarding the land and animals and crops in your care. Mossie had a wonderful life and his spirit will remain at Mossie Bottom.I am glad that Angela was drawn to your life by wanting to help there and that now you are both going forward with a shared endevour. I know that where ever it is you settle you will thrive and grow. From a remote part of rural Ireland you have touched many people through out the world. I wish you every success and await the next Chapter in your Journey and your observations.

Are you not sad to leave the land though, Daniel? I know relationships are cool but you love that place. 80,000 doesn't seem like a lot, for all the hard work you've put it.

    Dear Daniel,
Thank you for your heartfelt update, as I have been missing your wonderful videos and was feeling a little concerned. It's heartbreaking to learn of Moss's passing; I am so sorry. Moss had the most joyful and idyllic life with you and the love you shared was so beautiful! I will always remember his amazing zest for life and his great affection for you!!! He will be greatly missed by all of us who follow your journey. Rest peacefully, sweet Moss, we all love you ♥️♥️♥️
One of the most difficult life lessons for me has been that change is inevitable.....and I have always resisted it. Happily, I must say that most times, at least in my own life, the changes have always led to greater fulfilment of a different kind and in a different place!!! I wish you and Angela all the best in your search for your new home, and may it lead to greater overall fulfilment and joy for both of you! I will be looking very much forward to your next chapter, Daniel, whenever it is time for you to share it with us!!! Sending much love to you both and all the animals! Be well ♥️♥️♥️

Running through the property and being way to curious about the ducks and rabbits was so fun to watch. We all loved him. Thank you for sharing his wonderful life with us. I and many others across the world mourn his passing. The Moss bloopers were my favorite.
I hope someone buys your home and will appreciate all the hard work that you have put into it.

Dear Daniel, I am so sorry to hear that lovely Moss has passed. I recently lost my long-time companion, aged 17. She was a true force of nature, a dyed in the wool terrier, who even made her exit on her own terms. She welded herself to my heart and her loss was incredibly hard to bear. I know that happy memories eventually dull the pain. You never forget them. Good luck with your new chapter wherever you eventually decide to start writing it. Dont know if Scotland is on your radar. but years passed all too quickly, my time has come to go.

I see the tears that fall when I'm not Waiting at the Door.
You always did your best for me

Knowing what the world is like at the moment and the agenda that those that run it are implementing, I’d stay exactly where you are. Living near a city is not going to be good in the coming years, getting as far away from urban areas will be key to thriving not just surviving. If I could give your partner a word of advice there is no job/career worth giving up the beauty and freedom you have with the lifestyle you have right now.

This should not be given up lightly, it will become increasingly difficult for most people to achieve this given the current global circumstances and the likelihood of where this will take us. Hi Daniel! I am so sorry about Moss. I hope you will get better soon. I am not happy, you decided to move. I believe, you love your partner, but give everything up... And I know what I talk about, because I did, and after 10 years it is still hard. Also I have ended up alone. Not completly alone, because we have a child, but this all had a sad end. And I also left everything behind for my partner. I live in Germany, and here to buy a piece of Land, house is very expensive. There is a reason why 50% of the population is only renting. Around my area you have to spend somewhere between 600. 000-1 mill euro to have your own home.

First time viewer here, very impressive what you have achieved. And sorry for your loss. Sometimes it's not wise to make big life changing decisions at such emotional times of grief. Maybe sit tight for a few months and see how feel then? Donegal has a very respected University with brilliant academics and practicioners. Maybe your partner could tap into them? Or even Belfast? So much is done on zoom and online now. Anyway, best of luck whatever you end up doing. The west of Ireland is very appealing.

As for Finland, I would say that more challenging than the language would be the climate. There is frost and you don't get to start the season before April-May. And it may be cold long after the frost has melted and you can dig the soil and sow. Like this year we have had night temperatures below 10 C - in the south of Finland. In recent years there has also been long droughts. You can fairly easily lose most of your crop early in the season. I'm just a hobby gardener who grows mostly flowers and shrubs, but I can tell you farming is frustrating in such a short season. Add to that a long winter when you can't do any farming without a greenhouse. Chop off a month or two of your Irish growing season and you will get the idea of frustration. Oh, I almost forgot: damage done by animals. I think the worst ordeal is deer these days. They eat everything. Literally. Most flowers before they get to even bloom, but also potatoes from the ground and currant bushes and and and...

Putting down a pet especially to avoid suffering is such a hard decision. Went though a similar experience recently. Ultimately it is out of love, the loss can only be felt if you loved. He knew you loved him and he will be missed. We all die in the end, so it is a good reminder to live while we can and be grateful for what we have. Priorities and plans for the future.
