I was there too, my first time seeing it! Amazing show, obviously, but I kinda wish it wasn’t my first time because some parts were lost on me when I couldn’t hear lines during the crazy cheering. The girl next to me was sobbing her heart out after defying gravity, much to the bewilderment of her boyfriend 😂
I was here too! But I was in Circle Row T and forgot my glasses so I just saw a lot of glowing blobs but they sounded SO GOOD A lady nearby stopped the steward in the interval to ask him to tell people to stop screaming hahaha
Also there were these 2 girls in front of us CHOMPING popcorn and making loud straw slurping noises in the quiet bits... they also got up in the middle of Act 1 to go to the bar - who does that??
@@Amy-zq5kn It’s really frustrating! Once when I saw The Sound of Music, the people who sat next to me got up every 10 min to go and get a new wine bottle. They got up at least 8-10 times😩
yeah it almost felt like the cast had been told not to let us hold them up too long, cuz Glinda’s line got completely lost in all the noise :( lmao that one guy that whooped at the start of Sentimental Man had me cracking up😭 ALSO someone a couple rows in front of me had the audacity to be on snapchat during The Wizard and I!! i was genuinely so angry i was about to go over and snatch it of him😅 And the woman next to him got up and started heading towards the bar at the ‘so if you care to find me’ bit of Defying Gravity and i was genuinely in shock😳 other than that- absolutely fantastic show and i completely burst into tears about 15 secs into the overture😭
I spotted you when you were filming your intro but didn't want to interrupt! Your jacket was amazing! Ngl, Glinda's line at the end of the show really got me through a lot of lockdown. There was no way I wasn't going to be there on opening night to hear it! 'Fellow Ozians. Friends... We have been through a frightening time. And there will be other times, and other things that frighten us. But if you’ll let me, I’d like to try -- to help. I’d like to try to be -- Glinda the Good.' 💚💓
The magic is back!!! So jealous to everyone who went to the reopening nights BOTH in London and overseas here on Broadway!! Wicked is the best!!! Powerful story. Very relevant. Can't wait to be back!!! Plus, it's also my dream show to be part of..... still auditioning to be Boq.
Have you seen Rachel Tucker + Louise Dearman + Matt Evans cast? The night which was Matt’s last and Louise’s last (as Glinda) surely was the most incredible night in the history of this show. The vocals were beyond crazy, the band actually sounded like an orchestra (finally!!), and the chemistry those three had on stage... oh... my.... heavens...
Went to see wicked in October Snuck out at the curtain call just I forgot how damn long it was! Particularly after watching Six Didn’t help that I was super irritated from people talking next to me, and other stuff with sensory overload I was also too high up and couldn’t see properly Usually love the show But the speech was lovely Particularly the swings They are so talented
I was there - spotted you briefly but didn’t have a chance to say hi (soz!) The Sentimental Man applause made me lol 😂 Such a great night and really warmed to Laura Pick. I do agree with your point on pace but think it was due to the audience’s excitement rather than the cast, as you said
I saw the show a couple of weeks ago and I enjoyed it overall. I must say that I wasn't very impressed by the sound quality in the theatre. For example, there were moments where I couldn't actually make out what the actors on stage were saying, both during normal dialogue parts but mostly when they were singing, especially when the full cast was on stage. Sometimes the orchestra was too loud and covered the actors' voices almost completely. This is a shame since the cast was brilliant and talented, however their talent and hard work are not being rewarded and fully displayed as they should. By comparison, I went to see Mary Poppins on Sunday and were delighted by the perfect sound quality at the Prince Edward, every word was clear and the mixing was superb. Even during Jolly Holiday or Step in Time when there is a lot going on on stage you could always understand everything. During both shows I was sitting in the stalls, not too far from the stage. Have you ever noticed anything similar, or was it just a one-off issue?
I've seen it twice and the second time (up in the circle) I struggled at parts as well. It sounded like the vocals were coming from the centre speakers on the ceiling (behind the dragon) and the orchestra was coming through the side speakers. Not sure if this is normal, but as it was coming through separately, it did feel like they were challenging to overpower each other
MickeyJo, I'll be seeing Wicked at least twice at the end of October when I'm over from the US for a 10-day full immersion into London Theatre kinda holiday. I think I'm pushing about 30 times at the Apollo Victoria and looking forward to it muchly. But your video is the second I've watched just this week (the other was just a personal bar hopping vlog). So ....... what is up with no one wearing masks in London? In the pub crawl vlog, no one was masked inside or on the street with all the hopping. It all looked totally pre-pandemic. I mean, thank god the UK is even allowing Yanks back in without the extreme quarantine that was required for so long. But before a few days ago, I thought I'd be sitting in theatres for 10 days (every matinee and evening show possible) fully masked, battling fogged glasses and all that. Have I missed something? What is the new normal for London and London theatre?
I'm not from London, but Northern Ireland (still part of the UK, even if we are separated by water) and I get funny looks when I wear my mask out and about. I don't wear it outside as a rule, but often don't take it off immidately if I'm carrying something, or if it is a little cooler because the temperature change from being warm inside the mask to wind in my face is not pleasant. But even attending a funeral last week I was shocked to see people standing shoulder to shoulder with strangers both inside and outside and not a mask in sight. We were definitely in the minority while wearing masks, despite it being announced at several points. I just found it very disrespectful as it was a funeral of a 94-year-old man and his widow is 88, so despite not getting within 10 feet of her, I was wearing my mask to help keep her safe (and everyone else). But in terms of restaurants and bars, if people are wearing masks, they tend to take them off the second they sit down, even before ordering. If I'm feeling uncomfortable I'll take mine off for a breather and put it back on when someone comes over to take our order - I see it as a sign of politeness and respect for the waiting staff!

Love to see that recognition of the swings!! It sounds like an amazing atmosphere!
I could watch that curtain call a thousand times and it will never get old. Great video!

I saw the original Broadway cast of Wicked with Kristen Cheoweth & Idina Mezel definitely one of my favorite musicals!
A little bit jelly!!

Brings back such happy memories
Lucky you it brings nothing but bad memories for me

I saw Wicked in Milton Keynes when it was on a UK Tour a few years ago and I remember that it was amazing!
Very self aware
Loved this fun review!
Btw New cast has been announced now!
Would love to hear your thoughts

Do I need to see this for a fourth time???? X
nice to one production make a reopening post-show speech (North American Tour and Broadway did *NOTHING* special after their first shows back.)
As it’s not special it’s just a money making business in the states
