What I love about this version of Cinderella is that it deconstructs one of my biggest issues with all fairy tales, that the protagonists have to have their minds made up at the climax and then everything works out. Cinderella has been alone and abandoned most of her life and has very few options at her disposal. It makes sense that she would be confused about what the right decisions to make are. She doesn't have anyone wise in her life that she can look to for counsel. I love that she is unsure and questions her decisions. Even though she tries to think things through as best she can, she still ends up making decisions that don't serve her. Her happy ending doesn't work and she tells the prince to go. Its such a relatable and honest journey that I think most people go through but you rarely see in fairytale protagonists. They either get rescued or make the right decision. Cinderella turns out to be wrong and that's okay. She did the best she could with what she had, and when she knew better she chose better. This is such a smart deconstruction of the character. Love this version.
We loved that about Into the Wood’s Cinderella. It made her character so much more relatable too, because often at times, we don’t know what we want. And we make choices based on what we know in the present, and sometimes we end up choosing something different because it’s not what we really want or need. Her “happily ever after” isn’t black and white, even by the end of the movie, and that’s okay. It’s okay to be wrong, and it’s okay to not have things figured out. The happy fairytale ending is nice, but that’s not the reality we live in; there will still be hardships and challenges and uncertainties, and that’s okay, because hope remains.
Also I know it’s not exactly a Cinderella movie but her story is very close to Cinderella could you please 🙏 do Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas. Thank you.

We aren’t familiar with that one, but we will certainly consider it!
What Cinderella fairytale mash-up movie do you think we should review next?
There's a taping of this musical from the 80s with Bernadette Peter's as the Witch. I highly recommend watching that to compare it with this version.
@sweeney60 we have not heard of that one, that sounds fun! 😁
