I used to catch a similar type of Dogfish in the Northeast. They were fun to catch. I bet those Sole are delicious if you can get them with some more size. Cool video.
So far they are the toughest fighting fish I've come across here. I will try target a different species that get bigger near me: the starry flounder. Maybe I'll cook them up too.
There are plenty up here. If you are in the area let me know and I can put you on some. I have trouble Identifying a lot of these ocean fish. I rely on someone in minnesota to ID them for me.
You did well. Good to see you enjoying Washington state :) looked like a relatively uncrowded pier as well ! Ive never heard of that type of pickled squid, bit i can imagine what the scent is like 🤮. Keep up the good stuff sir :)
Nice smorgasbord of fish species Brett. I especially like those dog fish. Didn't know they peed through their skin. I wish I could sometimes. Sorry you didn't get the species you were going after but ill know you'll get it quickly.
Thanks. It's all good I'll get one. I think the only time peeing through your skin would be good is if you're in the shower and don't want anyone to see you peeing. 😂
That's one of the joys of Saltwater fishing, you can catch so many different species. That Dogfish that expels it's urine through secretion of it's skin, sounds like a good way to keep from being eaten, by tasting really bad, haha.
That's your problem right there. I don't know why but I haven't caught fish there either. Only tried a few times but 3 blanks and I don't go back. Try illahee state park or bremerton marina. I showed the pickled squid in the video. Shrimp is also good. Hi low rig or bottom bait. If there are fish around they will hit it. THey aren't picky and very aggressive.
Good multi-species day for you anyway. That spiny dogfish sure looked like a shark to me. If I'd been the one to catch it, I'm sure I would've sworn it was a shark.😂
Sorry it's so late. I used a 3 way rig with 2 hooks. Started with 1/0 then upsized to 5/0 IIRC. For bait I used sturgeon candy which is pickled squid from walmart. It stays on the hooks a while and you will catch a bunch before having to rebait. Good luck.
Most of the fish in this video were caught on the pickled squid. But they will hit anything really. Here are my favorite baits for bottom fishing. They will hit them all: ruclips.net/video/4BjHJJEzJAE/видео.html
Hey man, looks like a good day on the pier. Which pier was it? Looks like one I fished a long time ago near Manchester. I don't live in Kitsap anymore but for a day like that might be worth the drive.
No just the squid. If they made shrimp I'd be all over it. The shrimp is from sprouts, madagascar. They are pricey but out fish the frozen shrimp from Costco.
I would never have thought a fish could do tha pee out their skin thing. Guess that is why stagnet an warm bodies of water smell worse than cold running water. Great video.
I have but there are warnings not to eat certain shelfish. You can get oysters here and lots of people eat those. One thing is this is close to bremerton marina which has an advisory against eating bottom fish. There was also a sewage spill in Dyes inlet last year. I wouldn't eat any from here anymore. There are cleaner areas to harvest from.
By the way, the Port of Tacoma - Commencement Bay is one of the most polluted water way in the states. I would suggest not eating any of those bottom feeders.
Too bad those flounder were small. Once you get one the size of a dinner plate or bigger, that’s good eating. Also, you can use chunks of mackerel on your hook. Are you in Tacoma area or more North?
I am in Silverdale. I did a catch and cook for them and give a dinner plate one away. They’re not really worth the effort smaller than that. I haven’t tried mackerel. I haven’t seen it just herring. I like those pickled squid because you don’t need to keep them in a cooler and they stay on the hook longer when the crabs are biting.
@@PeelingLine what are some of the best piers to go to in that part of Washington? I’m also in that area. I go to Waterman, but when you’re on the bottom out there you only get seaweed 🤣
@@dronedandconfused9399 Yeah the tide is why you get all that seaweed there. You have to fish the slack tides so you don't get all the weeds. But usually fish move in on the incoming tides.
I mentioned it in the video. But IIRC I was using 5/0 circle. It doesn't really matter for the dogfish I have caught them on size 6 to 12/0. The main thing with them is having a leader they wont cut through. Sometimes they wont cut through 15# flouro other times they slice through thicker. Just depends on the fight and how it is hooked.
They are a species of shark. Definitely lots of new species for me with the salt water. Even the fresh water has a lot of fish I have never caught before like salmon and such.
😂😂😂We freshwater fishermen here in Washington call the second one a saltwater bullhead. And what you're calling dogfish we call mud shark. Nice to see someone likes the ugly fish.😂 A bad day fishing is better than the best day at work😂
I have heard bullhead but not mudshark. I wouldn't use the latter though since it's a pejorative and I don't want to get cancelled. I like all species of fish. I like to do lifelist fishing (catch as many different species as you can, if you don't know). Here's my lifelist: roughfish.com/lifelists/global-combined-overview/global-combined-detail/445531
Good ole Tacoma sounds ive fished there many of days the pier fishing is great flounders always hitting from the bottom.
Nice work off the pier brother. Good variety of catches.
So many different fish species in that one area. You never know what you will catch. Good day out there.
No you don't. I seem to get something different every time. I got a snake prickleback today.
Awesome video mate! Just joined your long list of subscribers!🤙👍
That dog fish looks like a mix between a stergoun and a shark! Tight lines! 🎣
I think they look cartoonish.
@@PeelingLine yes, now that you say that I see it
Love those piers. You just drop a bait and bam ! new species
Pretty much.
Great vid man! Those dogfish look fun to catch
Thank-you. They're the toughest thing I've caught in the state so far. I think there are plenty that are tougher. I just have to get into them.
Man NO matter where you go!!! You kick some up serious mud!!!!! Nice video dawg.. And nice dawg fish!!! Never got them before.. You a champ
Thank-you. I am trying. It's a little tougher than what I am used to.
That was very cool. Lots of different species. You never know what you will catch in salt water. The spiny dogfish look cool.
Thanks. You're right it's always a mixed bag out there.
That water is so calm.
It can get pretty rough out there.
awesome catch there, seems it makes you busy at this pier .....
神仙伴侣ShanePingStyle it is a good pier. Not good for parking though.

nice pier i think i was there last weekend
Great action! That dogfish shark looking thing looked mean as hell. That super bomb cast was long as hell too hahahah.
Thanks. They aren't too mean.
So awesome video my Man!
All nice catches and so interesting to know that fish pee out their skin!👍
Thank-you. But if you think about it I am touching pee. 😂
Pretty nice pier! Crazy variety out of one location. Sturgeon candy huh..might have to check that out. Have a great weekend Brett!
Thanks. It's good stuff. Stays on the hook forever and it doesn't go bad compared to worms. have a good one.
Wow some awesome catches!! those dogfish shark things are cool!
Thank-you. I like the way they look too.
Great action and a pretty spot!
Fished the same pier about 4 years ago. Caught the same kind of fish you did.
Makes sense.

Thanks. They're not for everyone but there are some who are into it.
Great catches buddy!! I enjoyed seeing all the different types of fish there 😊👍👍🎣👏
Thank-you.
Lots of diff species! Cool. The one fish that pees out of its skin, is that a very smelly fish then? 👍🙏🎣⚒
Yeah it was then. It smelled like an out house.
Peeling Line Good to know.... 👍
Those are a little different from the dog fish I'm used to haha! The ocean is a weird and wild place those were some crazy fish!
Even the fish you're used to are different. Like the rainbow trout vs steelhead. They fight so much harder.
@@PeelingLine that's crazy if you have been out chasing those I'll be looking forward to those videos!

Thank-you. The squid is actually sweet and spicy. Not bad at all or fishy. I was fishing a weekday so less people out there.
I am coming in from out of town this weekend and I am hoping to try Edmonds fishing pier. Any advice for this time of year?
Nice fish👍
I saw a shark for the first time!!!

Some interesting looking creatures up that way. Have you found any freshwater fishing yet? It was nice and calm that day.
I have tried one lake but access is a problem. I just got a kayak and will be going for some freshwater soon.
Catching dogfish can be fun. Nice job!
Most fun I've had so far.
Now that’s a nice looking pier!! I believe most sharks urinate through the skin. Solid day fishing man!
Thank-you. I didn't know that.
greeting man what a good catch

They aren't as tough as carp but still lots of fun on the right gear.

You're right about variety. I'm sure it stops a lot of people from eating them. Not sure about predator fish.
I can't believe most of those fish bit that large of a hook. :) haha
I have caught smaller fish on bigger hooks. Those little ones can be really aggressive and somehow hook themselves.
Awesome saltwater fishing, man. In Seattle? Though my favorite creature is the sea nettle in the end 😁 Happy fishin!
Yes I just moved here last month. I like them too. There are quite a few here. I wouldn't want to go swimming.
Peeling Line Ha ha. Just wear a wetsuit if you swim. 🤣 That is really awesome, buddy. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Did you move there to have access to saltwater fishing?

hey thats a goood job!!!

So... You should wash your hands after handling a dog fish.Lol👍
Yes. Don't eat your sandwich right away.
You only need to pinch the barbs in areas 5-13 (Puget sound). It's because of rockfish being closed. It's a stupid pointless rule.
I thought it was for the salmon. I find the barbless hooks tear up fishes mouths more than barbed ones. There are no shortage of rules here.
