I'm about a third of the way through, and have laughed out loud more times than I can count, not just at the story but at our Simon's reading of it. Mr. Pooter's self-satisfied chuckles at his own jokes are nothing short of hilarious! Thank you, Simon. A wonderful change of pace!
@@crystalclear6864this is the 5th time I’ve listened to this I love it Sir Simon Stanhope Nailed it like always Hollywood only wishes they could have someone so good.
Fantastic!! The full story in one place. With a great narrator. Kudos for mentioning other past narrators, thats professional, and amazingly kind. Absolutely we requested your narration! Its your voice with your ability to bring out the humour from the characters( and the scariness in your ghost stories too!!) . A delight to listen to as always. Lot of hard work goes into your audible videos. Please all on hear who listen press like/ subscribe and i recommend band camp where these can be kept permanently.
I just googled Bandcamp, and I see they have a "Bandcamp Friday" once a month (edit: only September, October and December in 2024); fees are waived! Yay! I'm going to check out Simon's page on the next one; thanks for reminding me of the service 👍
Oh I AM enjoying this! I lay enjoying for three hours before I fell asleep. Today was mostly dreary appointments. I got home, rushed through feeding the dogs, made myself a quick sandwich (didn't even bother cutting it in half) and I'm back to listen to the rest. Will there be more enamel paint adventures? Has the boot scraper been moved correctly? It's such a lovely silly story. Thanks for all the effort, it's appreciated! I wonder if I can still subscribe to Bicycle News Weekly? It seems to have all the important stories.
Ah yes, the wonderful Arthur Lowe. I do remember listening to that version some time ago, although sadly it was abridged (if it's the same one I'm thinking of?) so one or two of my favourite bits weren't included...
This is brilliant Simon Stanhope, so so good. "I roared" multiple times. I read the book in my 20s (40ish years ago, how the hell did that happen?) and didn't get much from it at all. So I don't know if it's maturity on my part or the delivery of the piece on your part but there's been a 100% turnaround in my reaction. I think it's mostly your performance and a tiny bit of ageing by me which has wrought this change in response. Hardly ever does something which promises to make one laugh actually raise a titter but the titters were regular and prolonged in response to this reading. Fantastic!
😅 Ohhhh Simon! This story is hilarious!!! I don’t know where you find some of these stories, but I sure am glad you do! Thank You 🙏 Thank You 😂 Mr. Pooter my morning!
My missus says the exact same thing bless her ❤ although with her constant car+phone troubles she is often having to stay at various friends+her sisters a lot at night these days, such a trooper she also suffers with such night time headaches when she is home,God love her,I just don't know how she puts up with a clutz like me,only joking even after all her woes "we are pregnant" just the luckiest guy in the world 🙏
Exhausting weekend - already abed, with tea: so happy to have this relief from the football! 😅 Happy listening, All - and thank you, Simon, for another gem. ❤
Thank you my Dear Simon! You've saved my soul again with this lovely reading. We really appreciate the time and care you take to make the very best RUclips content. Your voice is incredible. Blessings to you Sir. 👍🫂❤
At some point, I thought that the boot scraper stories had run their course and would no longer be funny. Boy, was I wrong... continued to chuckle at every one!
I didn't think I'd be interested in this story, but tried it anyway because I usually like what you read. In spite of myself I got interested in the little doings of the Pooter family as they deal with common things we are all concerned with - marriage, children, career, friends. Nice job with the story and use of different intonations and expressions. (I also like the beard :-)
As opposed to narrating a work we are all familiar with, you’ve introduced us to sth most have never heard of and my what a treasure trove of chuckles and also your outstanding voice and cadence. Thank you Sir.
Exquisite! If I had to have a favorite, Reading from you, this would be it. I am impressed by the way you were able to portray each and every character.

It is widely reported in The Bicycle News that this is the finest reading of Mr Pooter's doings ever recorded. Kudos!

Thank you Peter! I really must subscribe to that excellent publication...
This novel reminds me that the more things change, the more they stay the same…
What a gift to have Simon’s work on here for free. Always gives me something ‘gentle’ to retreat to when I want to get away from the world.
You are a generous man Simon.

Thank you so much Simon! None of the other unabridged versions had been quite right for me - this is perfect.
