In 2009, legendary mountain moonshiner Popcorn Sutton sold an undercover ATF agent hundreds of jars of moonshine. When the agent returned to buy more, he brought a posse of state and federal agents with him. Popcorn was sentenced to prison for making and selling his illegal "likker." But instead of serving time in a penitentiary, he chose to end his own life.
Singer-songwriter Ali Randolph immortalized Popcorn's life in a song that she first performed at his memorial service. Later she recorded the song at Hollow Reed Studio in Asheville with her band. The video was shot on location at Popcorn's home, and at the site of his last moonshine operation.
Many thanks to Pam Sutton, Popcorn's widow, for her help and support in making this video. The documentary footage of Popcorn was shot by Neal Hutcheson, and is available in a feature-length movie at SuckerPunchPictures.com. Before Popcorn died, he signed a deal with a Nashville distillery to sell his moonshine, which is now available as Popcorn Sutton's Tennessee White Whiskey. The life of Popcorn may be over, but not the legend. That lives on.

Back in 2008 on my 18th birthday I had me a pint of Popcorn's Likker. It was second to none. He wasn't kidding about it being the "block and tackle" kind..I couldn't walk 3 feet without tackling the ground. I miss this man everyday
Popcorn was a hero and an idol to more people than he ever knew thank you to everyone that was with him and knew him I never met him ,but I feel like I did life is funny like that god bless you all and,Pam as long as you live popcorn will always be in your heart .just because we don't see popcorn the documentary will keep his memory and heritage alive SHINE ON POPCORN SHINE ON.

Like the song, like the video. I knew him and his parents Vader and Bonnie. Bonnie played the banjo even after she got old and sick. They was the real deal, no fake hillbillies. He lived the way he wanted and left this world on his terms. He was who he was, like him or not. I did but, they just wanted to make an example of him.
It seems to me that there are far more dangerous people in this country that law enforcement could have focused on.
This Song Brings A Few Tears To My Eyes .. It was sad what the gov. did to him, they made him take his own life... Unreal !

I grew up close to where Popcorn made his shine he was a mountain legend and a man who inspired a lot of men and women I never meet him but I wish I could have he was a good man and a great shiner went to Nashville a while back on a trip and saw a big poster on the side of a building down on boulevard for a little ole hillbilly like me it was pretty cool to see how far Popcorn's legend has spread

Popcorn Sutton was a friend of my brother James W. Stimpson Jr. 1957-2016. Sad they are both gone now. My brother lived in the Asheville and Black Mountain area of NC. Your music is fantastic. Just love it.
