What's better than a Leo cover? A Leo cover with a fantastic guest artist. All of Leo's guests that I've looked into are not only excellent musicians, but are smart and charming, too. Mary is my very favorite, but Hannah and Rabea are amazing too, Pete is awesome... so many incredible artists and good people.
The collabs between Mary Spender and Leo are straight up some of the best on RUclips. This collab is awesome and really highlights the talent of both of them. And for anybody who say that this cover ruins the original, they're way off.
I also usually whisper, "You should be listening," right after in a parody of the old Funimation splash intros before various anime shows where they said "Funimation." And then whispered "You should be watching."
I loved the original, I've been fortunate enough to see Mark Knopfler perform it live... But this version is just AMAZING!! Leo absolutely rocks, all his covers are absolutely incredible and I can't believe anyone would complain about them... I find that shocking really...
That was a great commentary on their combined styles..... Mary mentioned she learned a lot about production while with Leo.... I totally notice doubled vocals now
Thsi was my first Leo and my favorite. A lot of people do not know he does everything from drums to guitar sing and mixes it all together into this great package. What is not to love. Another favorite is Hello. Talented like no other.
First, thx OldSkuleNerd for your reactions on Leo 🙂. Maybe someone allready wrote this but I'm to lazy to scroll (sry). Leo IS Frogleapstudio. And he does just about everything (not only the music, playing the instruments, vocals and being great fun) he also does most the filming, videoediting and you name it. He is a true multi talented artist!
I don't think I can pick a best one there's too many but his cover of 4 Non Blondes "What's Up! is pretty good as well a the Bee Gees! "Tragedy" And I almost left out "Dance Donkey" the guitar 🎸 shred on that one!!! lol
Wooo!!!! I have been listening to Leo for years and just discovered your channel. I'm not old yet, but closer to 40 than I feel and love old school music and nerd stuff!! Mary is legit and amazing. As a guy with too many guitars and a studio in the basement, I genuinely wish I had his talent! May the force be with you!
As long as you have a path to walk through and are able to get to the food and fridge, then you don't have to many guitars. It's a feat that is almost impossible to achieve.
This was one of my favorite songs back in 80's when i was a teen, listening it from Leo and Mary reminded me good o'le days. Still love to listen oldies when my ears want some soft stuff.
Dude, I've seen this probably a dozen times, and I NEVER noticed that banjo that Mary was playing had a guitar neck!🤣 Great catch! I actually found out about Leo from being subbed to Mary's channel. Which reminds me, I haven't seen anything from Mary in a while, so maybe I better check and see if I'm still subscribed. We all know about RUclips and the mystery 'unsubscribe syndrome'.🙄 Great review! 😁 🤘😎🤘 *EDIT:* Mary's eye roll at 5:24.😆 Leo really knows how to capture both sides of the performance!😉
New sub. this popped up out of nowhere. Been watching Leo for a couple of years and this is my favourite. Nice reaction 👌 And Mary is a bit of a secret hotty eh and has a great voice which add to the package 😄👍
My mate pops in one eve, walks into my shed come office come man cave at the bottom of the garden and says type Sultans of Swing Leo cover into youtube. 'I fucking hate Sultans of Swing'. 'Not this version' Boom, absolutely blown away, spent the next week skimming his covers and ended up buying about 40 of them, most of which are covers of songs i would never listen to in their original form. Who else can make Gangham style sound awesome.
@@george217 Thanks for the suggestion. Did not know it. So I just checked it out. Very nice. And nice to see and hear Hannah again. However, it is in my ears and with my taste far from my three mentioned.
Dire Straits has always held a special place to me, never at the top of my personal list of bands but I always have to stop and listen to them, so much talent. And Mary being in this song with Leo is perfect!! She's an amazing woman and an amazing musician!
Hey, oldskule... do your self a favor to appreciate Leo even more then you already do... go look up the official music video for “dance monkey” and watch as much of that travesty to music as you can... then follow it up with a reaction to Leo’s cover of it with rabea and Hannah... Leo makes bad music thoroughly enjoyable! You can thank me later... rock on brotha!
This version is great, but the original will always be my favorite because of the memories of hearing it on an AM radio while driving around with my mother, and listening to what ever new thing my older brother and sister were arguing about this time. Those memories will always keep a place in my heart for the original.
When I first saw a Sultans of Swing metal cover in my list I thought oh crap it is going to be rubbish, but I watched it anyway. It is now my favorite cover ever by Leo, damn it is good. What can i say, Leo is one of those artists that is just unique, his humor is great and he really does try to stay true to the original while giving it that oomph of a metal vibe. I for one am glad he did this and and Toto's Africa. Leo is a joy to watch and listen too. In this one Mary's voice is perfect, together they both totally rocked this one out of the park. I wish I could have seen your first original reaction as it that would have been great to see. use some software recovery tools and get it back, you'd be surprised what you can recover long after it has been deleted.
I've been a Subscriber to Frog Leap Studio's for yeeeeeears, since before he really blew up. I don't think there's a video that Leo has done that I haven't liked. This was the video that introduced to me to Mary.
Didn't comment on it in your Reaction to the last 10 minutes of Mandalorian S2E8 but ......You've been Star Wars Nerd for how long? Not sure if you've seen Clone Wars but I know you've seen Mando S2E3 & E5 and still you pronounced Ah-so-ka as Ah-Sue-ka thru the entire . So I was ready to take you to task for "Sometimes I mispronounce names." until you corrected it. Beginning to think you do it on purpose. I love you, man!!!!!!!!!!!
Dude, I'm SO glad you did this song. Dance Money and House of the Rising Sun are musts. Hannah and Rabea make another appearance in Dance Money and Hannah really gets to show off the pipes in a way she couldn't in Africa
Why are you glad? It's not a reaction video. You should go watch it on Leo's channel if you just like the song. This is just a re-upload. It's flirting with theft since he admits it's not a reaction.
I was so confused when I saw this title pop up, because I was pretty sure that I only knew about this video from your reaction ... so your intro makes sense. And I love the vid as much as I did the first time. Because, yeah, I also remember when MTV was literally a new thing and the original video was the newest/coolest thing ever. Apparently, though, I don't understand how "content creation" works on RUclips. I'm an old school IT guy, software engineer blah blah blah, so ... can you not just re-upload the video you had recorded the first time? I just have so many backups of so many things I have built over the decades. This is not snark; I'm legitimately confused about how the video side of this all works. Cheers, and thanks for all you do, OSN!!
Besides of the common suggestions (Dance Monkey is a real killer!), I would also recommend "Genie in a bottle", "Eye Of The Tiger" and "Ghostbusters". All good stuff.
Great Reaction & my 2nd Ive watched of yours Video's. One thought, Please don't talk during half way thru when Leo fucking slays it when he goes into his full on Bad Ass Metal & Scream. Just a reminder you had seen this once before, but many haven't. I Love when he goes Beast Mode! SerioulsyA Great reaction! I'm gonna find another one right now! ✌🏼
Another great thing about Leo's channel is when he takes metal songs and does them as acoustic covers. You, seriously, have to check out his metal covers of rap songs, especially Snoop Dogg's "Gin and Juice", Die Antwoord's "Fatty Boom Boom" and "I Fink You Freaky", or Eminem's "Lose Yourself". Regarding your missing the last 15 years of metal, I have some recommendations for you. Some are more mainstream, some...not so much. Being a fan of metal, pretty much from the 80s (when I was in school, graduating in 90) I've grown to love Slipknot, they are amazing live. Check out the super group Metal Allegiance, they have some amazing stuff. Testament's "Native Blood" would be a great reaction video. Another band that I really enjoy is Red Fang. I got to see them at the Mayhem Festival, had no idea who they were, when they took the stage, and bought all of their albums after the show. They made me think of a pissed off Motorhead. I found out that they've been classified as "stoner metal". Please react to one of their videos...preferably "Prehistoric Dog"..."Wires" or "Hank is Dead" would be great, too. I think that you'll love their sense of humor.
That was my favorite of his so far, he's awesome. Check out Heilung LIFA Krigsgaldr Live Apocalypse Orchestra-The Garden of Earthly Delights And a new one I just found Wardruna Kvitravn. I'm loving you're reactions, I'm almost 65 so I've seen a LOT of metal.
From one old school nerd to another, I remember the Dire Straits videos when I was a wee lil Bambino. My siblings are older and listened to music and MTV was always on. While I'll always love Dire Straits, I do prefer Leo's cover. So much so that I bought this and his other songs. Been a Leo fan for 7 years. You should do a deep dive on Leo's playlist. I'll be here for each one lol
(Don't Fear) The Reaper cover by Leo is also amazing. Whenever I hear it, I have to play it at least twice in a row. If you haven't heard it, it's so good.
You might also want to check out Post Modern Jukebox they do a mix of cover styles my favorite is the Pinky and the Brain theme with Cameo by the voice actors.
If Sina Doering had been in this as well I'd have downloaded it on a flash drive and buried it in a vault for humanities great, irreplaceable treasures! Sooooo good!

My favorite from Leo, but also because of the video, not sure if i would hear it in the car (if i still had one). But Marys rolleyes alone is so great 😄
@@OldSkuleNerd This on always, its like "Ghost Love Score" or "Akin Ka Na Lang" one of the songs i just can't withstand whenever i see a new reaction 😄

My favorite Leo covers are Burn the Witch (Radiohead), Like a Virgin (Madonna) and Africa (Toto). The Burn the Witch 360 degree video is awesome too. Also his cover of Pantera's Fucking Hostile is hilarious!
Mary is a musician's musician. She makes quality content, shares really valuable industry information, and is the perfect foil to Leo.
Mary is average as a musician, has a slightly unique voice but she's pretty so she gets a free pass.
Glad I'm not the only one that whispers "Frog Leap Studios" at the opening graphic.
Something satisfying about doing that.
I also usually whisper, "You should be listening," right after in a parody of the old Funimation splash intros before various anime shows where they said "Funimation." And then whispered "You should be watching."
People saying it was never meant to be heavy, I guarantee you, Mark Knopfler would be thrilled with this cover
he would be over the mooon.....
Fully agreed!!
I loved the original, I've been fortunate enough to see Mark Knopfler perform it live... But this version is just AMAZING!! Leo absolutely rocks, all his covers are absolutely incredible and I can't believe anyone would complain about them... I find that shocking really...
Honestly the best cover Leo has ever done. Mary and Leo knocked this song out of the park.
I love how during her V guitar solo, she strikes the strings without a pick, but with a thumb instead, exactly as Knopfler does.
It would be weird to use a pick there, because you are using multiple fingers to pluck. The only way it would make sense is with a thumb-pick.
She always plays fingerstyle (I'm currently working my way through her fingestyle course). I'm sure it was a large part in why they went Dire Straits.
Mary never used a pick, she's a finger picker.
I love Mary Spender so much
Leo reactions are the best; he makes you happy to be alive.

Oh btw, If you liked this result of Leo and Mary working together, while doing this they also made a cover of "Fast Car" in acoustic... Go watch that!
I would say that Leo is the most popular/famous cover artist out there and Mary is right up there with him!
Leo's so fun to watch.
Two more rabbit holes I didn't "need"....thanks OSN!

This and the toto Africa cover are probably the best, but I have not found a cover by Leo I didn't like yet, keep up the good work mate :-)
Look up Mary Spender and Danish Pete. The most incredible version of Dreams...
