  • Stress CAN harm your eyes if left unchecked. When I see a patient with shingles in their eye, one of the first questions I ask is “are you under more stress than usual right now?” and almost every time, they chuckle or even start to cry. The crying I think is realizing that whatever has been troubling them (toxic work environment or relationship, etc) is starting to have negative physical effects on their body. It is a moment of clarity and realization that “I need to get this under control.”
    So, how do you reduce high levels of stress if you cannot immediately exit the stressful situation? 1) Setting aside time to sleep a minimum of 7 hours 2) practice mindful breathing and meditation to quell the fight or flight 3) exercise daily and eat clean (no processed foods)
    P.S. Ocular shingles is not the kind of thing that you “might” have - the reported pain level is typically 9 or 10 out of 10, so you will no doubt be finding your way to the doctor because the pain disrupts sleep and life.
