    Some comments from someone who's been involved in engineering power plant boilers:
    1. Doesn't discuss role of condenser and why it's important. When steam flows through turbines, some of it condenses and must be removed to avoid turbine blade damage. Also, after steam has passed through all boilers, it is cooled and condensed back into liquid, sometimes by using water from a river or lake, sometimes by using ambient air. This significantly improved thermodynamic efficiency of process. Typically, condensers operate under medium to high vacuum to maximize thermodynamic efficiency. Liquid condensate is then recycled back to feedwater pumps.
    2. There is significant thermal expansion of boiler as it comes from a cold state to online. Large watertube boilers are suspended from near top; I've seen some boilers expand downward more than a foot (1/3 meter) due to thermal expansion.
    3. Because of condenser, you can consider steam piping an "open" process, which means video's treatment of pressure during heating is essentially correct. But in order to reach maximum allowable temperature (limited by turbine metallurgy), water and steam pressure must be high, generally 1000+ PSIA. This pressure is mostly supplied by feedwater pumps.
    4. Reason for multiple water passes through hot combustion gases is to primarily extract as much of the heat content from the combustion gases as possible. Economizer preheats boiler feed water using "cooler" combustion gases. Reheater uses hotter gases, superheater uses even hotter gases and main watertube chamber uses hottest gases. Side benefit to extracting maximum heat from combustion gases is thermal efficiency of overall process. The more heat you remove from combustion gases the better; plus it is a benefit to reject combustion gases to atmosphere as close to ambient temperature as achievable. I've even seen places use air to air heat exchanges to preheat incoming combustion air using combustion gases after water preheater.
    5. Superheating is your friend. Dries out the steam, which is safer for turbine, plus provides significant thermodynamic efficiency.
    6. Boilers generally use air, which has side effect of creating NOx molecules, which are environmental pollutants. This can be mitigated by extending flame length and reducing flame temperature. A newer way is to filter out most of the nitrogen and supply air with higher concentration of oxygen.
    7. Everything is interrelated; changes in operating regime always impact something else.

    This is an excellent video. I have worked as an operator and now teach power plant operations, as a consultant. I am very impressed with the quality of your video. You might consider revising the narration regarding superheated steam. By definition, steam does not become superheated until all moisture is vaporized. Likewise, it remains superheated until it again reaches saturation. At saturation, there might be some moisture. Below saturation is liquid. Just a small point, but there can be no moisture in superheated steam.
    I hope you have been able to continue you work. This is a truly fine animation for teaching.

    This is an interesting video on the basics of how a generating station boiler works. I worked for 34 years in Los Angeles DWP generating stations. Most of those years I was an operator of the generating station equipment. I also know that there is a lot more that could be said about generating station boilers.

    The same phenomena happens within Refrigerant pipes. Any pressure differences within the high or low sides off an AC pipe occur due to friction with the pipe surface. Differences in heat content throughout the length of the pipe effect the density off the gases not the pressure of the gas on either side. For this reason refrigerant mass tends to migrate to colder areas.

    The 1st heat absorption is the generating bank, (water wall). The economizer is just before the Stack inlet, at the end of the boiler Flue gas pass

    You should have mentioned that in case of REHEAT only the pressure dosent increase but falls due to bends in piping arrangement and so does it happens when saturated steam from boiler drum travels through different sort of superheat circuits. But in waterwall its pressure do increase during circulation in drum....

    And you could take that 40 degree Celsius water that leaves the condenser and use it to run an turbine that uses ammonia as a working liquid/gas or a Stirling engine. This would especially work if you were next to a large body of deep cold water. Like in Minnesota or Winnipeg.

      ## The process through which the dissolved gases are removed from water is called the “Deaeration Process”. The equipment, which is used in this method, is called “Deaerator“.
      # Why do we use deaerators?…
      The Deaerator (DA) tank uses steam to preheat boiler feedwater to a temp. at which dissolved O2 & CO2 will become separated from the feedwater before it is pumped to the boiler. The purpose is to protect the boiler and steam/condensate piping from corrosion that would be present when the water evaporates into steam. An additional benefit is that the number of chemicals used to treat the boiler water can be reduced.

    I'm no engineer but can the boiler be driven by two different heat sources? There's this idea that if intermittent renewable energy were instead used to co-supply heat in such a system, it could more effectively displace fossil fuel consumption without threatening the grid's stability. I hear that Rankine Turbine Generator output is inflexible but what about the fuel feed?

      Some coal plants have been altered to run on Biomass and some gas turbins can run on Natural gass, and fuel oil.

    The burners in the bolier in your presentations They are directed against each other, bu in real life burners are oriented at an angle that the flame was swirled(greater surface area of the flame). Am I right or not? I was inside in Bolier in the power station when boliers was in renovation. Great video!! We can see how works the boiler ;)

    Sir i have a Q that if the inlet pressure of water lets say 1 atm must be equal to outlet pressure of steam generated , in this case we will be producing a steam at 1 atm? My Q is then how to increase pressure of steam in a boiler?

    An excellent video. I just have one question and I hope you answer me. I did not understand the idea of the moisture content. What will happen or the effect after reducing it?

      Saturated steam is the original output from the boiler, that has moisture in it. Moisture in the pipes greatly reduces the productivity and longevity of steam before going into the turbine blades. Condensate will not spin the turbine blades. In fact, it will destroy them. Productivity is increased by raising the steam temp AFTER it is no longer in contact with the water it was generated from. That lowers the moisture content.

    the pressure of the net of the steam .. does it equals with the vapor pressure of the water at sat. temp when the boiler is creating the sat. steam???
    are they the same pressure??
