Kind of Blue featuring Miles Davis' iconic trumpet
JazzAscona 2024 is offering one of its out of town events today, as Locarno will be taking part in the festival's 40th anniversary celebrations with a parade by the Tremé Lafitte Brass Band at 3 pm and followed by a concert by The Travelling Janes in front of the Casino from 4 pm.
After the usual dance workshops (Swing and Lindy Hop at 6.30 pm and Burlesque with dancer Trixie Minx at 7.30 pm), the highlight of the evening will take place on the Piazza in Ascona with the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra (Stage New Orleans 8.00 pm).
Tonight's concert (Stage New Orleans from 20:00) will feature a special moment, as the winner of the Kind Of Blue trumpet competition will have the honour of playing Miles Davis' former trumpet, accompanied by the Orchestra. The iconic Moon and Stars trumpet, an instrument commissioned and played by Miles Davis in the 1980s, will be on display on the Blue Llama Terrace in front of the New Orleans stage during the 10 days of the festival.
