  • As thousands of students return to school this week - amid concerns of short-staffing and overcrowding - the prospect of uncertified teachers (allowed under the School Act to fill short-term needs) being brought in to support classrooms is worrying teachers’ associations. The CBC's Janella Hamilton takes a look at the issue.

I've got a solution close the B.ed indoctrination camps and bring in a teaching apprenticeship program. Problem solved.
I hold an honours BA and have 5 years of teaching experience in the private sector. No reason I should be wasting time in a B.Ed program to do the job. Is a way for teachers unions/associations to maintain their power and control over the profession.

Hilarious that recognizing internationally trained teachers is a last resort for the BCTF. Shows what a joke this province is. Immigrant teachers are just as skilled as Canadian teachers and should have always been recognized from the beginning.

Why won't you hire someone like myself, who begs to be recorded transparently in my own successes with learners, and to then seek to re-train certified teachers so that they can - TRULY - become less stressed, much more successful at what they are supposed to do, but more importantly, learner-centered!?!
This is utterly ridiculous YEARLY nonsense meant to distract from the real issues!
PROFESSIONAL-DEVELOPMENT FOR TEACHERS SHOULD "NEVER" COME FROM "CERTIFIED" TEACHERS, BUT FROM OTHER TYPES OF SPECIALISTS INSTEAD!!!
Shame on this scam in education which is ONLY meant to protect their systemic-issues and business-as-usual!

PAY MORE I dunno what the hell is wrong with this world. If you want to retain teachers or even gain new teachers PAY MORE. You can't just import people from developing nations to replace teachers the only fix for this is to make people want to get into teaching.
