So according to google, the Blue heart is: Designed by Marcel Smink and installed in 1998, it consists of blue glass panels on a stainless steel frame. The artist is associating the technically-constructed heart to Delft’s local Technical University while the blue colour of the glass refers to the world-famous “Delfts Blauw” or the Delft Blue earthenware and the heart itself stands for “the heart of the city”. Basically its a big blue heart, for reasons.
I was listening to Girl with a Pearl Earring audio book while walking around Delft. Didn’t end up liking the book or film, but absolutely loved the Vermeer museum. He’s definitely my favorite painter.
I just wanted to say that I’ve really been enjoying these videos from the Netherlands lately! I am actually going to Amsterdam as an exchange student this autumn and am flying out this Friday. So getting some more sneak peeks at the country through your wonderful content has been delightful! Also wanted to thank you for helping me get back into reading, and especially introducing me to so many great works in translation. Keep up the great work!!
@@WillowTalksBooks Oh cool, then I will probably have suggestions of bookshops to visit when I begin exploring the city this weekend then hehe. Excellent timing, happy to hear that! Hope you have a good rest of your trip :)
@@WillowTalksBooks Well, it was always pronounced the way you did when I lived in Greece. I don't eat meat anymore but we used to pop over to a village called Neo Marmaras where there was a tiny shop which made the best (allegedly) gyros in Greece followed by pistachio ice-cream ❤️
You're an adorable person. 🥰 This was entertaining and fun. The reimagined portraits of Girl With Pearl Earring are really cool and they are all indeed pretty. It's so nice to see parts of the country where Blackbriar are from. 💚
Nice to see Delft. Have you thought of becoming an alternative tour guide, if not I think you should, as your very entertaining. I liked seeing bits of the Vermeer exhibition. Btw the Blue Heart of Delft represents the heart of the old city and is blue glass to represent two things: 1. The delft pottery colour and 2. The old glass that used to be in many churches in the town years ago. You see, wastewater from the delft pottery factories which contained blue ink run-off was used to cool window glass after its manufacture, which gave the glass an extremely pale blue lustre. I don’t know if you know, but there’s a sweet little comic book shop called the Stripboekhandel Bul Super in delft. I bought a friend some Dutch comics from there once.
I can't get in to the Girl with the Pearl Earring (I don't like pearls much), but otherwise enjoying your travel series with its pithy and insightful commentary.
I’m from the Netherlands, it’s very nice to see Delft from your point of view - haven’t been there much :) Are you here for a holiday? Enjoy your stay!
"All the way down here on the wal..k..... theres a pride flag! :)" Same same. I love seeing pride flags in the wild. My local bookstore always has one out and it makes me happy every time.
You are so beautiful! ❤️ Delft looks beautiful too
You’re so sweet! And it is 😊
Haha, loved the chaotic energy of this one :D Enjoy your travels!
Haha thank you, glad it didn’t come off as annoying!
I live for the energy in this vlog 😂👏🏻
Yay, glad it didn’t come off as obnoxious 😅

I would recommend “Tim’s Vermeer”. A movie about recreating a Vermeer painting it’s fascinating
Ooh interesting, thank you!
Please never change, and your pronunciation of Gyro is correct. Weird, a Greek restaurant where they don't speak Greek 😸
The guy was definitely Greek as well! His accent was Greek, not Dutch. Catering to tourists maybe? I’m just proud I got it right 😊

@@WillowTalksBooks You're welcome! Zora's singing is wonderful and enchanting. I'm so glad you enjoy the music. 😊
