- The NRL planning to introducing more teams, to make 20 in the league, is becoming a hot topic with plenty of supporters on each side of the fence. We waited for just over 15 years for a 17th club to be added, but rumours are that an 18th club is closer than we might think.
The boys, Aaron Woods and Wade Graham, join Maroon on the Footy Talk League podcast to discuss the possible 20 club NRL league. “Now we’re gonna have a club that represents 4 nations, this can never work!” Says an angry Maroon, reinforcing his stand against rapid expansion like this. Wado chirps that execution needs to be done correctly, referring to the Dolphins’ 18 month roster and the lesson they learnt.
What do you think? Are you in favour of the NRL’s plan to grow 3 new teams? This is, like Nick Politis from the Roosters told News Corp, an opportunity for the game to be represented in every state in an effort to compete with the AFL.

I would love a PNG team ..but the social stability of the country is a concern. If theres a riot at an nrl game in png and people get killed..this will not help expansion or the game ..i dont think the infrastructure is quite there yet.
The thing about him saying NRL is too tribal is so is AFL teams in Melbourne suburbs. There was visceral opposition to moving clubs to other states but over time it worked.
2-4 games at North Sydney Oval isn't a huge compromise at all. I doubt anyone living in Perth (or Mars) would be having a sook about only getting most of the home games and not all.
The WA team will play four "home games" in Sydney? They're playing road games there already! What, are they going to travel only to QLD, or Melbourne? Look, the draw is gerrymandered anyway, so have the WA team play the Sydney road game against e.g. the Bunnies or the Sharks a week before, or a week after, they play their North Sydney "home" game.
Not to mention PNG , Pacifica Region another NZ Team or maybe 2 and of course Perth and Adelaide.
Also for me bring the North Sydney Bears as the North Sydney Bears. It's ridiculous ?
Man Sydney has expanded expanentially in 20 years.

Team in Western Australia, Team in South Australia, second team in New Zealand happy days how hard can it be because their are guys in Qcup and NSW Cup same guys that are from the Pacific Islands knocking on the door to expose their hardwork and talents

The future of pacific rugby league is pathways. Hunters are on a progressive trajectory but need time to build properly to be ready for 1st grade and as for the pacific they could create a tournament like a world club challenge where 1st tier local premieres face each other.
2nd club in NZ representing the pacific nations based in the South Island. Even up the number of clubs and stop talk about 20 teams. The league doesn’t have the $$$.
PNG will go it alone with the backing of 10 plus million people..not with a pasifika team!!

Look Expansion is difficult because of the Storm and Roosters.
Those 2 Teams use feeder clubs that could actually be in the NRL. North Sydney , Brisbane Firehawks (Tigers)
They Could be there now and Sunshine Coast Falcons is another prospective future NRL Team.
The Storm have had 26 Years and they have only produced 5 NRL players ... Man ? and then PV suggested another Melbourne team ? Wtf ?
So they'll be using our everyone else's players for another 25 years... nope !
I do wanna see more teams in Melbourne because of the population but not until they have their own talent to draw from.
They're holding back Traditional League areas like Toowoomba extremely strong and famous region for Rugby League.
Ipswich , Central Qld , Central Coast and a couple more Brisbane Teams.
There too many Queensland teams. Having more will dilute other qld teams. They need to expand beyond the eastern seaboard.

It's the Roosters and Storm that are diluting the Talent because they don't bloody have any talent 😂 They are not Teams or Clubs , They are Corporations and Businesses. They Qld Talent is going to the Bloody Storm Predominantly because they don't have enough talent after 26-27 Years ??? Nah those 2 Teams need to find another answer to justify being there besides their money !

Roosters have resources ever since they got rid of the Bears and that's why they won't let them back in as North Sydney which us ridiculous and they couldn't go the Central Coast because the Chooks have that as well 😂
