    This was a beautiful video, Linda after losing my papa last week who I lived with for the last 13 years, and has been a part of my life and grown-up with my entire life, sadly being on my own and having a chronic illness at the same time and disabilityI have stumbled in being able to create, but the idea of getting outside in the natural elements that we both enjoyed and just doing something intuitively as opposed to trying to think of an actual composition really spoke to me. Your videos either here on or on, Patreon are always exceptionally good value and always fun and helpful. I can’t wait to see more of this series.

    Hi Linda! I just had an idea about how to quickly and easily see what each pencil color looks like. You can swatch each color in a thin strip, and then wrap each one around the pencil near the top and tape it on. That way, you wouldn’t need to rely on your charts. Great video as always! ❤

    For the palette, I bought a flexible white cutting board from the $ store. It has a textured side that works beautifully to rub Inktense, watercolour crayons, water colour pencils, etc. on to use as paint. It’s thin enough to cut with scissors so one cutting board made several palettes to include in different kits I have.

    I've been using Caran D'Ache neocolors, which feel like wax but can be wetted to turn into watercolors, along with Stabilo woodies (also can be wetted) to create landscapes and ocean and beachscapes. I had never thought of trying them before, and am surprised at all I can create, So this session of yours is also very fun to watch and timely for me.

    Linda this was a great video! I loved it 🥰 The best part was your joy packing up, then sitting there and using your pencils and then packing up again. The ease and joy of a light bag is so relatable. You inspire me so much and now I'm contemplating how to get more inktense pencils 🤭 (I've just had my birthday and spent my birthday money already 😂) I like and enjoy all your painting, but your landscapes speak to me in a different level. They make me think I can and want to paint them too. Looking forward to the next video in this series. Big hugs 🥰

      Thanks so much for letting me know that the video left you feeling inspired to paint landscapes. That always makes me feel so happy!. I definitely think having a lite, portable kit makes all the difference in getting out there to create. Plus I found when using just one medium you really learned so much more about that medium. I really had fun making this video. Sending a big hug right back to you!🤗

  • @Anonymoi

    This was a great video and yes, it left me feeling inspired! Your landscape is almost identical to mine in New Hampshire. We have stone walls all over our property including in our backyard, and I have never tried to draw or paint them because they seem like an overwhelmingly complicated subject (or just something which would end up looking overly detailed, which is not the effect I want.) I was amazed at how well your rendering read as a stone wall while remaining loose. I also am going to adopt your practice of carrying a small bottle or gesso - it worked so well to adjust the values in the wall. I don’t have the Inktense pencils, but I have a large selection of the Inktense blocks I really should pull out and use. Just yesterday I got out to do some plein air work in the gorgeous weather and forced myself to take just one medium - Neocolor I wax pastels. I, like you, have a desire to paint, but I recently realized that I am just more likely to get out and do SOMETHING if I only bring drawing materials. I used to truly enjoy drawing and only drew for years before starting to paint and had forgotten how much I like drawing. In fact, I have started even just bringing a Blackwing Matte pencil and a small sketchbook and getting back to complete basics, even though it seems boring. Quick question - did you mean to say Derwent palette, or were you referring to the Caran d’Ache palette, which is also rough so you can rub your Neocolor II pastels against it to make paint?

    • @BeginnersMind-ArtMind
      @BeginnersMind-ArtMind  7 месяцев назад

      We are both so lucky to live in northern New England! Such beautiful landscapes. I’m so happy that the video left you feeling inspired. Yes, it’s amazing how little and how abstractly you can put marks down but have them read correctly. Gesso is my little miracle bottle lol. The palette that I ordered was the Caran D’ Ache palette because the reviews on it said it does really well with both Neocolors and watercolor pencils. I’m really looking forward to exploring more sessions using just one medium because it really helps me to learn all aspects of that medium. I think the Neocolors are going to be fun! 🖍️🤩

      @@BeginnersMind-ArtMind Oh okay, I think you said Derwent (but I can’t find it now) and I wasn’t sure if they have one too. I think Derwent has (or used to have) something called something like “Grate and Shake,” which was basically a spice grater on top of a little bottle, so you could grate your blocks (would work better for blocks) into the bottle and add water to make liquid ink/paint.

    • @BeginnersMind-ArtMind
      @BeginnersMind-ArtMind  7 месяцев назад

      @Anonymoi oh that sounds interesting! You could grate them onto wet paper and get a cool speckled effect. I’m usually pretty good at catching my mistakes during editing but the older I get, the more brain fogged I get lol 😶‍🌫️😂

    What a lovely video, you live in a beautiful area, I think art and the creation of art is so subjective, using materials in a different way to which they were made for isn’t wrong it’s just using them in a way in which they serve your purpose, that’s why there are so many coloured pencils for example, ones to use with or without water, others that blend with alcohol. Art is so interesting and constantly evolving, I love the freedom of your intuitive art, not everyone can do it. Xxx

    Great video! And beautiful painting. You got fantastic greys. Thanks for description of intuitive drawing vs. working intuitively. Funny about using materials “the wrong way” I almost never even wet the inktense pencils.I love their scrubby rough look.
    Note for other viewers. I bought inexpensive thin plastic cutting boards as alternative to the caran d’ache pencil palette The cutting boards have a slightly textured surface that’s great for scrubbing inktense on and mixing. Thin is important cause I cut them down to fit in my palette
    I also like to travel outdoors light so have you seen the octopus arm type tripods for phones? You can wrap the arms around anything or get a selfie stick with fold out legs so you don’t have to hold it all the time..

    • @BeginnersMind-ArtMind
      @BeginnersMind-ArtMind  7 месяцев назад

      I’m so glad that you enjoyed it! Thanks for sharing about the cutting mat, that sounds like a great idea! My selfie stick does have fold out legs it’s just not terribly convenient unless there’s a table or a solid, level surface to set it on. I did see an ad not long ago about some kind of thing that had been invented after the idea of an octopus. I’ll have to check that one out. I normally have a tripod that I can put my camera on and that makes it super easy to change angles quickly. However, as my disease progresses I need to keep things really simple and light. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts, ideas, and for watching. 🙏💕

    I also have MCAS. I react to a lot of smells so it’s really hard to find safe media to work with. I am afraid to buy nice (expensive) art supplies because I don’t know if the smell will make me sick. I have oil paints, pastels, fabercastell and prisma colored pencils that I cannot use unless I put on a gas mask.
    I really want to try the Neocolor II. Do you know if they have a smell? Do Inktense pencils have a smell?

      That’s a hard question to answer because everyone’s sensitivities run so differently. Also, everyone is in a different place in their medication and treatment plan. I am extremely sensitive to smells and I also had to give up oil paints. Having said that the Inktense pencils and Neocolor crayons do not bother me. I tend to let items air out in a separate area before using them the first time. If it’s an item that I’m unsure about I will often order through Amazon so that I can return it easily if the smell bothers me. Sorry I couldn’t be of more help but as you know, it’s a really tricky disease.

      @@BeginnersMind-ArtMind thank you for taking the time to respond. I was just wondering if they had any kind of smell at all because I will most likely react to it. I noticed that some colored pencils like col-erase pencils don’t really smell much at all even when brand new, while wax or oil based pencils (the ones I have anyway) have such a strong smell that won’t go away even after airing them out for weeks/months.
      I found that Mungyo watercolor crayons don’t smell much either even when they are new. But Mungyo gallery soft pastels have a very strong smell. I don’t know what makes the watercolor crayons not smell. If I knew, I could try to buy other supplies with similar qualities/ingredients.

      @monalee7687 I know, it’s definitely really hard. I have a company whose products I review and absolutely love. But they sent me one product that I couldn’t even have in my studio at all because the smell made me so sick. So I wasn’t able to do a review for them even though they sent me the product. the other thing that makes it really hard to give each other advice is that my Inktense and Neocolor 2 are very old. Companies change hands so quickly these days that I find some products that I can tolerate, but when I order restocks of certain colors, I can’t tolerate them because they are being made differently. In the histamine on Facebook, it always amazes me how someone can post one supplement their doctor put them on and there will be hundreds of responses with some people saying the product made them terribly sick and other people saying it was a lifesaver for them. I can’t tell you how often I end up in tears because I just can’t figure out what I’m reacting to. I’m sure you’re the same way!

      @@BeginnersMind-ArtMind it’s a shame about the restocks being different from the old. It’s helpful to know though, thank you.
      I totally understand what you mean by how upsetting it is when you can’t even tell what is making you sick, so you can’t remove what you don’t know. My 7 year old daughter also has MCAS. I feel so bad for her. I hope we all find something that helps us ❤️.
      I only just found out on this video that you have MCAS. I really enjoy your videos. They are inspiring.

      @monalee7687 Sorry that your daughter has it too! I know it’s not easy. It’s taken me over 6 months just to get on most of the meds and supplements the mast cell specialist are trying to get me on and I’m still not on them all. I’m really glad that you are finding the videos inspiring!
