I haven't seen this for a few years, but it's truly amazing to me. I believe I counted about 68 different tunes played. When I'm playing or someone next to me is playing I am absorbed by the music enough that I can't think of any other tunes. These three fiddlers are all excellent and a lot of fun to listen to! I need to get to Pembroke and see this for myself!!!!!
Wow! This is my first time seeing a "fiddle off." Wonderful. Loved it, and it was very inspiring. Video made it seem like I was there watching. Thank you! from Sebastopol, CA.
I take my hat off to all the fiddlers who take part in this annual "Fiddle Off" at La Marche, the Quebec fiddlers gathering area at the Pembroke Fiddle Park.. It starts with a dozen or more from all over the Park. They all have to play a short piece of a tune in turn without pausing. Also they can't repeat what has been played. One by one fiddlers drop out until there are only two or three left. That's where it really gets interesting because they have so little time to think of a tune when it's their turn.Definately not for the faint-hearted! It was my pleasure to have played the upright bass for several of these events over the years.
I like it that the judge is wearing a referee's shirt... I also love the random key and tune changes between fiddlers around the circle. Gotta try this out myself.
