Lori, I remember all the humble baking my mother would do for Christmas each year. And when the almond bark came about, boy was she in love!!! It was near impossible to not have some melted bark leftover and she wasn’t about to waste it!! She took peanuts, cold cereal (froot loops and Chex is what we had), chow mein noodles and leftover mini marshmallows and dumped in the dry ingredients until she had enough to mix well and drop in clusters on parchment paper. Her recipe of necessity and frugality has been a family favorite over 30 years now. Praying Mr. Brown feels better soon!!

Frugality was a big part of my childhood. My mother always put oatmeal in her fudge, after I got married I asked about her recipe as I couldn’t find one that used oatmeal. She laughed and said “we couldn’t afford nuts, so I substituted, then it became traditional 😮😂

My mom was never crazy about peanuts so she'd make cashew brittle around the holidays. Of course, cashews weren't $6.-7./lb. either! ☺
I'm glad you brought up the off-price store, especially now, I think we might need a reminder for things like baking supplies to go to your local dollar store. For things like brown sugar, powdered sugar, graham crackers and such it can be a real savings.

@Whippoorwill Holler Oh my goodness. Miss Lori, thank you for this video. It brought back so many wonderful memories of Christmas time and cooking with my mama. Whenever she could afford to get all the ingredients, she made all the wonderful traditional candies. She even made fruitcakes. I don't care for store bought fruitcake but her recipe was delicious. Many people who didn't like fruitcake loved hers. The only time you'd ever find liquor in her house was this time of year. She used it for homemade cough syrup and she would soak cheesecloth in whiskey and wrap the cakes. She did this several times over a few months aging them in a dark cool place. Talk about an expensive cake to make, whoa Nelly! Her peanut brittle was absolutely amazing as I'm sure yours is. Daddy used to plant acres of peanuts so we had them every way you can think of. Don't even get me started on divinity, which is my favorite holiday candy. Miss Lori, I love your videos so much. You always make me feel so at home, like I'm in the company of kinfolk. I hope you have a blessed Christmas season surrounded by family and love. I pray Mr. Brown will feel better soon. Much love and blessings to you both.

I use Almond Bark all the time. It is the best...I also use generic brands on a lot of my things I make. I learned early on in life, It's all the same and comes from the same Ranch or Farm. Just some are culls and some of them are the best that was on the tree. I love your lovely home, it looks so warm and welcoming, and nice place to enjoy a cup of coffee and just look around. Thank you and God Bless you, I hope Mr. Brown is feeling better soon.

Looks delicious. My mother used to make fudge at holiday time. I remember the smells of the old stores where we went to buy nuts and dry sausages and special smoked cheeses. Those places are all gone now and I can’t even eat those anymore but ahh the memories ❤

The pecan pie balls rolled in chocolate and toffee looks so good. I love peanut brittle too. I remember every year my Pawpaw would make peanut brittle when I was a little girl and growing up, it was always really good. I couldn't eat much of it, bc my teeth were so sensitive even back then. Thank you Miss Lori. God bless you and Mr. Brown. Merry Christmas. 🎅🤶🎄🎁❤

I always use a little cooking paraffin in my melted chocolate. It sets up better and adds a little liquid so it’s easier to dip. 🤗
