    ________
    Marker height off the globe represents depth into the Earth.
    When an earthquake strikes, you will hear a rumble, ding, and a bell toll. The bell will toll the number of times = to the earthquake which occurs. (example : M4.0 will ring 4 times).
    The most recent earthquake has a green placemark / flag on it.
    Blue flag / placemark = the last earthquake which was looked up

    I wrote a paper for my Geology 101 class about earthquake forecasting. My instructor gave me an "F" and said it has nothing to do with Geology. You are doing great work and research.

    Unfortunately, it didn't take PGV (Puna Geothermal Ventures) completely out. At least they had to do an emergency removal of their toxic explosive liquid kept underground near Leilani Eststes and areas. If lava hit it would most assuredly kill most in surrounding areas.

    We remember the 2006, 6.7 quake here. It was just awful. Felt like someone duct taped me to a jack hammer on a street! Messed up my back. Today's 5.4 felt like our house was hit by a big truck, boom! lifted up and moved to northwest, then it came back where it was. I was standing when that happened. The 6.9 after that kept on going, and going, and going... I just got up, no slippahs (no flip flops) and ran outside barefoot! And 4 more quakes "rolled" through after. I packed up the car, hubby is home, and we are ready to go. Captain Cook. Aloha.

    In the news today they showed Oregon haveing vibrations but say it wasn’t an earthquake and clame it was deforestation,
    My hypothesis as a longtime viewer is that the tremors in the West coast are increasing due to pressure comeing in from the north and west...

      @cacatr4495 6 лет назад

      Quote > " haveing vibrations but say it wasn’t an earthquake and clame it was deforestation" >> If that's an accurate report, that is INSANE! That takes Lying to a whole new level of stupidity. That's like saying that a kid chewing bubble gum, caused a storm.

    a friend was near there today, felt the 5...shes not reported about the 6.9 later today...they're flying off the island tonight...what I'm worried about is the toxic gases...could prove deadly for the people living on that island...I'm remembering what happened in Africa few years back...so many people died from toxic gases.

    Thanks for the heads up, Dutch.. you da man!!
    The two largest earthquakes today was large and trembling for a while. Even now there’s like a vibration. I live in Mt. View so it’s probably 50-55 miles away from the active lava fissures (5 fissures the last I heard)
    Many areas have lost power
    Gas stations are crazy
    And public beaches are being closed (according to FB)
    And possibly schools in Hilo will be closed on Monday.
    Mahalo for all that you do.

      The Pacific ring of fire terminal ends are now just north of LA & into Mexico. When the terminal ends meet, the big one will hit.

    • @gmkbelanger
      @gmkbelanger 6 лет назад

      Weirdalfan1980 as I understand it, no, bc these are hotspot volcanoes, not plate edge volcanoes, completely different process.

      gmkbelanger
      That is true under the old modelling, but ever since the magnaplumes started, the old dynamic is now combined with the new. As the core heats up the magnaplumes test the terminal ends and weakpoint horns along the way & push up through the glassy layer, into & through the crustal layer, causing pressures to release, caverns to collapse & lava levels to fall regardless of formerly being isolated.

    you are doing a great job! i always watching your channel, spot on, , btw, maunaloa last erupted in 1984, a double eruption of maunaloa and Kilauea, at the same time..

  • @shaggybreeks
    @shaggybreeks 6 лет назад +1

    Fact check: The 1975 earthquake WAS accompanied by a Kilauea eruption. I am seeing this misinformation elsewhere. I was in that earthquake, and there definitely WAS an eruption at the same time.

    Dutch, check out the "Hilina Slump". This could all end up being a very serious situation if that part of the volcano slips. And it could slip with a quake. Also, quake just now 6. In Philippines.

    Thanks for the video. I have family living in Hawaiian Beaches close to Leilani but they should be ok there. The constant earthquakes have all the dogs freaked out. They have supplies, solar and generators, fuel. Much more prepared now after experiencing the hurricane that caused weeks long power outage some years ago.

    Past major slides along the SE face of The Big Island have included overhang/cliff masses of rock as much as 3 miles wide and 30+ miles long that slid to the deep ocean in the deep past. A 'smaller' event, apparently 1.5 mi wide and only 16 miles long 'calved' off from the SE face of the Big Island. Now, we see the moving of the Island over the Hotspot and we WILL see new mountain building, but FIRST, the Mountain, which goes down to deep sea base, needs to equalize and have as solid a base as possible, but, with the uplift and cracking/spreading due to magma/lave intrusion is pushing that slab into the ocean, slowly so far, but it WILL pick up speed. To what degree, I do not know, but it could be MASSIVE if something like THAT happens.
