beautiful . ivy is a great mom. Constantly grooming and stays with them 24 ,7. yesterday, nelly and harvey were nursing, Yale was in corner looking sad. Ivy made eye contact until Yale finally came over. Ive had two cat families, those moms wandered. Not Ivy. Loooove this little family. 💛💙💜
Aw the little squeakers!!! It won't be long until they're up and playing! I definitely agree about moving a bed where ivy can see the two doors, just as a comfort to her if nothing else!

I was watching last night (the 29th) and Ivy seemed worried by certain noises. She kept looking around & coming out from the box, then would return, purr to the kitties and lick them like crazy to wake up (?). She did this multiple times, so maybe she was trying to coax them out to walk around? Then she started to play with the catnip mouse toy outside the box & the kitties kept sticking their head out of the box to watch her, then she'd stop & stare at them. Then the kitties would duck down and sleep/cuddle in a pile lol. She's SUCH a cute, attentive mommy
Or they could be some of those yahoos that think having cats as pets is wrong and abusive, because there are people out there who think that. We call them PETA. :/

baby box graduation day. i guess now its like room exploration kindergarden. its amazing how calm ivy is sleeping out there in the middle of the room and the open for some hours now. i guess with how closely she watched the little ones wobble around outside the box before, she noticed that they are doing ok outside and wants them to get used to the room now. will be interesting to see what the 4 will do once they all wake up again.
She moves the kittens as a normal part of their development. They have to get used to life outside of the box. They can't stay there. They have to learn to use the box, interact with humans and be weaned. They aren't infants anymore.

I've seen my friends mom cat do that,,all our mother cats always did that. They randomly move them for no reason. Some times they would pick them up from the middle of the room and put them into the box.
Mother cats will move their nests in the wild to prevent detection from predators. Staying in one spot for too long can be risky. And they will still do it even if they're in a safe place because it is their instinct to do so.
Looking at mom and the kids now (8-31), they seem to have found the "clam" pillow that Cobbler and Nutmeg loved so much. I don't know where you got it but that clam thing seem very appealing to the kitties. It looks like the perfect "pillow" cave. It cracks me up to see them hanging out of the hole.

Mama cats instinctively move their nests a couple times before babies are weaned- predator avoidance ( from kitten "fragrance"), better drier conditions, etc. But here all her needs are met perfectly by the Academy. So I wonder if she is trying to get them to stretch their legs, or maybe its their beginner class on "homing instinct".
They all got adopted/moved to the shelter last week. The only one who stayed is Custard (Mr A and DJ adopted him) who's now out in the main area of the house with the other professor cats.
if she likes cats in general you could use a little dirty trick that works most of the time. its always easy to say no but if she actually SEES the kitten and looks at it it may work. Talk to her and say something like " at least let us take a look and talk about it with persons who know how to care for a cat and the benefits of having a cat and so on" most of the time their heart will melt if it doesnt work you will unfortunately have to wait till you move out ^^
I can guarantee this technique works. My mom is highly allergic to cats, but now we have two because of she saw me and my sister interacting with our respective cats before we adopted them.
There are multiple theories - the main ones being to be closer to the food, to have a better view of the room and simply because the kittens are growing up and need more space.

It's some type of IR light meant for night vision mode, it's not bright in "real life" :)
They can't see the light. It's infrared designed for night mode. There's barely any light in the room at night.
