You're very welcome, glad you found I've explained it clearly. I will be doing some more videos soon which follow on with the installation video. Thanks again for your appreciative comment
Hi Tim, thank you for these two videos, sadly I have messed up somewhere in the process. I think - after watching your videos a few times that I found my error. Can you just clarify that you are not actually installing Ubuntu on the gm - you only use it from the usb drive to get home assistant loaded?
Hey and thanks for your comment/question. Oh dear, it's easily done and it took me a couple of time initially to get it right as I was a little confused about Ubuntu. But you are correct YES - Ubuntu is not actually being installed as such, it just runs as a live OS FROM THE bootable USB Memory Stick. Hope this helps and fingers crossed you're able to get it running now. Basically we are just using Ubuntu OS from the Memory stick to get an option to format the GMKtec internal drive and then use the Ubuntu live OS to install Home Assistant with.
@@bjrnrasmussen8035 That's brilliant, thanks for the update, really responsive on these GMKtec's isn't it. Easy to update too when Home Assistant release any main, core/OS updates.
Hi, Mr Tim! You explain things so well. However, I restarted my GMKTEC after watching this video and it got stuck on "Waiting for Home Assistant to be ready. Is there something I need to be doing? I saw your third video but I don't have the Zigbee dongle. Should I get that?
Hey @SachiYasui - Thanks so much for your kind words, glad you've found this video easy to follow. I seem to recall something like that happened when I was testing mine. Firstly make sure you have the GMKtec plugged in to your Router with a network cable/CAT5 or CAT6 then start the machine and be patient while it installs Home Assistant application automatically, maybe wait 20 mins first time. Then if you don't get a command prompt just try pressing Enter key to see if you get a command prompt which means it's then ready to use. After that you should be able to login to Home Assistant by obtaining it's IP address from your Router and then typing the IP in your web browser and make sure you enter ':8123' (colon 8123) at the end of the IP address. Let me know how you get on with that! Hope that works! With regard to the Zigbee Adapter, you don't have to buy one but it is needed if you want to use Zigbee devices in your home, for example Light Bulbs. I will be doing a video (part 6) which will explain about the Zigbee Adapter and adding Zigbee Light Bulbs.

Thanks for the videos, really well explained. It’s nice seeing a UK based “how to” video. 👏
