Ive been an SNow admin for about 2 years doing a hybrid service desk and SNow admin role. Im now CSA certified and just finished my scripting fundamentals course. Im not new to javascript or coding as Ive worked in web development and also did python scripting creating GIS software tools for ArcGIS. Learning SNow's API's has been fun and automating projects using Flow Designer have been a blast. SNow really makes coding nice and streamline. Going to sit for my CAD cert next year once it gets approved by my company. Hopefully I can move into a more permanent admin/dev role at my current job and get out of doing help desk.
Fix scripts is nice, and a great way to move changes between instances. Also, look for a add-on app called Xplore by James Neal on the share page as a great way to test/debug scripts. developer.servicenow.com
This video was created when we were still using UI16. You should be able to find Scripts - Background under All > System Definition > Scripts - Background. It's still there, just tucked under the "All" menu.
So I'm retaking this now. I've been wondering why I've had pop-ups for the past 6 months. Apparently I should have made this client script inactive before moving on to the next video! Lesson Learned!
Hi Chuck, thanks for sharing this abundant information. Could you also help with the procedure of setting ServiceNow script libraries in VS Code please

Hi Chuck, our organisation is soon moving to service now from Remedy, so need a session for Integration in service now and how data will be migrated from Remedy to Service now. Thanks
Hello Amit. I have an integration series on my "to do" list, but I don't have a time frame for release yet. It's a popular topic. I recommend working with our professional services or partners to coordinate the data migration. When I was a customer, I found it fairly easy to import the legacy data and our go-live was painless.
@@ChuckTomasi thank you very much again Chuck!!! I wrote this in the first two videos in case someone is in a hurry (LIKE ME!) and needs a bold help like yours!! @@astrocapsule Just in case you are still here. I want to step into ServiceNow development. Just got my CSA but I want to know scripting too. I have been looking at free resources to understand the concept before jumping into Chuck's videos. When you started with this series, were you are complete greenhorn in JS? If you were, do you think I should just focus on this series to get started? What I find out of ServiceNow space are tutorials done in ways that suggest whoever is watching wants to become a web developer.
Hello Techy, great question. There is a complete playlist available on this channel. Click the channel name 'ServiceNow Dev Program' below the video/above the comments and description, then go to the Playlists and you'll find the one for Learn JavaScript on the Now Platform. Best of luck!

I've just started, however, the DEV instance seems easier and i don't have a place to type in code, its more like an application with alot of UI buttons instead of a DEV environment, can anyone advise?
Thanks for your comment. There are definitely places to enter code. The best practice is to use code as little as possible to reduce technical debt (making maintenance easier, upgrades faster, etc.) When code is required, it's definitely possible. Places to use code include business rules, UI actions, script includes, Service Portal widgets, client scripts, and several others.

Trying to connect to the Developer's instance that you directed us to use but it keeps pushing me to the App Engine Studio. What am I doing wrong?
The developer site doesn't have App Engine Studio available. Are you referring to the personal developer instance you get from the developer site?

Yes. There are several places where you can extend the functionality and create deeper logic, integrations, and user experiences using JavaScript.
