"BORN TO RUN" WAS SO GOOD GUYS... if you wanna listen to it too, you can check it out on @audible! Visit Audible.com/SarahL or text "sarahL" to 500-500 to try Audible free for 30 days! Also I would LOVE more audiobook recommendations! (and maybe tips on running, if you're one of those strange people who enjoy it 😛 hehe)
Your joy recounting that book was infectious. I have been listening to Ben Macintyre. He takes nonfiction accounts and writes a beautiful story that is as intense and captivating as a fiction book. His A Spy Among Friends was great along with The Spy and the Traitor. I just finished Agent Zigzag yesterday and that was great too. I highly recommend and would be interested to see if you enjoyed them as much as I did.
Please don’t ever stop making these!!! You’re like medicine I’ve been hooked on for ten years or so!! Thank you for everything and keep on ‘toktoktoktoktoking’
I'm SO glad someone else felt like Priory could have been multiple books. Half the reason it took me so long to read it was my brain just could not process everything that was happening in a single book, it was like information overload. Please never stop making these videos!!! They make my little bookworm heart so happy
My brother runs 8 miles 4 times a week and he's 72. Barbara Kingsolver is my absolute favorite and The Poisonwood Bible is fantastic! I can't wait to read this new book.
Donna Tartt is such a good author! I love her unique writing style and how she writes makes me feel like I’m truly apart of the characters’ lives. I found her through her book, The Goldfinch, and I felt so many emotions when reading it! Thank you for the cozy content; this really helped fall asleep after the bus rice home from a football game last night (I’m a percussionist in the school’s marching band, haha) ❤️❤️
I love these book asmr videos. I feel like it's two communities who overlaps a lot but there's not much content like this. This video has been in my Watch later Playlist for a week and I finally found the perfect moment to enjoy it❤
I read the secret history in this year and I enjoyed it as well! and the moment when you said about feeling cozy, surprisingly I felt that because of the style of writing and also because of that winter episodes with Richard - they aren’t cozy at all, but if you had experience quite close to trying to make a home from something uncomfortable, you’d totally understand the feeling behind it. it’s not about coziness as itself it’s about that tiny warmth inside you that helped keep going and keep feeling alright even if it wasn’t like that.
Sarah gives our brains such a wonderful workout with these vids, she provides the motivation like a personal trainer, the books will exercise our brains and the ASMR triggers are super vitamins that give our brains vitality. Thanks, Sarah for helping to keep our brains healthy, please do more of these.💜💜
This was such a cozy video :) It's currently thunderstorming where I am, and this felt like a friend and I talking about our favorite books while waiting out the storm
I was so happy to see Priory of the Orange Tree in this video. I don’t know anyone who has read it personally so I love to hear reviews. I adore the book and just finished A Day of Fallen Night, the prequel, which I might love even more. I agree the pacing was odd at the end of the Priory and I found myself wanting more. For me, I loved the characters and world so much that I wish it was 2-3 books so it could go more in depth into them.
Your book videos are my favourite ASMR. I watch once to fall asleep and then multiple times after to hear the reviews. The first video of yours that i ever saw was the rainy day fantasy book one and I was blown away as I watched you pick up and discuss loads of my favourite books (name of the wind, circe, the blade itself...). Our tastes are so similar that i find these videos a great (and relaxing) way to get recommendations, it would be so awesome if you started a book club! I didnt know that you had a patreon discord, so I'm off to sub and join that now to hang out with all the kind people in the comments.
I bought born to run because of you and really liked it! I am not surprised that you gave good book recommendations! I almost bought it without checking for myself whether it's a worthwhile buy because I trust you.
Girl, I totally know what you mean with running! I’ve always run for exercise, but have never liked it lol! I’m fascinated by people who love it so much.
i got this notification a few hours ago and i was just anxiously waiting for bed until i could finally watch ur video 😊 thank you sarah! ❤ (ur soft spoken voice is soo different from ur whisper voice! but i love both)
Listening to your videos has become a daily routine for me! Love the book reviews and soft spoken triggers in this one! Thanks so much and keep being the best ASMRtist out there! 🙂✨
I loved the Four Agreements when read as a book. I enjoy the agreements and messages behind them, and I am not a spiritual person but I look at it from a non-spiritual perspective that Don Miguel Ruiz is an author who gives splendid life advice. When looking through a non spiritual lens it feels like something I would get at a therapy session.
This was really cool! I think this was my first ever book asmr I've watched. It was fun hearing your thoughts, review, and summaries of the books. Now I have more to add to my TBR list!
Once again, another amazing video!!! I love these times of videos that you do, I always take your advice and read the books you recommend. When you finished your last one of these I immediately got Secret History from my library and absolutely enjoyed it. Keep up the great work
Just found this channel on my reels so randomly just now, twas one of the recommendations of YT I guess since I love ASMRs. Found her voice so sweet and cold, and I think I like her 😅 Thanks for this one, Sarah! Subcribed! 🤙
Absolutely love your book videos, they're what got me into ASMR to begin with! Just finished Babel by R.F. Kuang yesterday, it was incredible! Dark academia perfect for fall, with an interesting take on translation and colonialism (actually think it was inspired by The Secret History, too).
5-7 years ago, I read Born to Run as a swimmer, but I liked it because in Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, Part 7: Steel Ball Run, there is a Native American who runs on foot while participating in a horse race across America. I liked Born to Run because even though it was non-ficiton, there was a story. A few months ago, I was talking to a friend who is a runner, and I was talking about some of the ideas in the book, and she asked me if I got it from a book, and she mentioned her brothers had read the book too. It was so crazy since I hadn't met someone else who knew about the book. Thanks for the review.
My heart was all 🥹🥹🥹❤ when I saw this video thumbnail the moment I opened youtube. Thank you for making me smile even before I started watching the video! God bless & sending lots of 💜
Love your book videos! Ms. Barb grew up in Kentucky and lives on a farm in Southwest Virginia now. I’m a native of that area (EKY/SWVA) and found Demon to be an absolute Appalachian masterpiece!
I have listened to "The Enchanted April" (from 1922) by Elizabeth von Arnim recently and I recommend both the book and the film! Especially if you are interested in women's history. But it's just a wholesome well-written story of finding love and beauty in the world and a good comfort read. 😊
I love your book videos! I've been having a vey busy and very tiring two weeks where I i haven't had time or energy to read, so at least with this video I get to be thinking and hearing about books! Priory is on my tbr list, and I loved The Secret History when I read it many years ago. I'm also a long-term fan of Barbara Kingsolver, so I'm intrigued to hear about her new one.
I’ve been very interested in reading Demon Copperhead and hearing you talk about it has peaked my curiosity even further so I know what I will be reading and listening to now
The Priory of the Orange Tree now has another book! Samantha Shannon released a prequel called A Day of Fallen Night! ❤ I love your book videos so much 😍
Personally I loved Priory of the Orange Tree. My friend recommended it and it was the book that got me back into reading. Also there's a sequel that came out this year so it now is part of a series. But the book is definitely a monster and could've been split into 2 or 3. P.S. love your book videos 😊
i loved so many aspects of it! 💗 just wish i could have spent even longer with some of the characters to really get to know them and thank you hannah!! 💜
My 12 year old daughter listened last night to a favorite makeup one of yours and I asked her a question and she said " shhh mom Sarah's video is amazing " 💝💕👍🥰 then just a bit Later...asleep ! 🙌
I'm so looking forward to popping in my earbuds and settling in for a great nights sleep after enjoying this video.. Thank you for your dedication to making great ASMR for all of us.😴💜 I appreciate you!
I also got Fourth Wing recently. I haven't started it yet, but I wanna start it soon. I also just got Geneva, which is the debut novel of actor Richard Armitage. But I'm in the middle of Ali Hazelwood's "Loathe to Love You" and Alan Rickman's diary right now. I have way too many books I want to read, but I definitely want to check out The Priory of Orange Tree. I'm a sucker for fantasy and romance, so that's exciting for me.
6:52 we also used to run from animals. We were just like any other prey for a long time I understand. PBS Eons did a good video, imo, about it called, "When humans were prey."
I will say as someone who did not have a lot of expectations going into priory, i agree with almost everything you said here. I thought the book could have been at least 200 pages longer if not a two separate books. it will work for some people for sure, but I did want more from it considering how big a punch it was setting up.
I'm a little late coming to this video, but I had to pop in to say how much I enjoyed it! I've read and thoroughly enjoyed most of the books you chatted about today. I listened to the audible version of Demon Copperhead this past summer while I working in my garden, and it did not disappoint! One of my favorite Barbara Kingsolver novels is Prodigal Summer, and now I feel like I need to listen to it again. I have a recommendation for something that would fit nicely into the season : Wintering by Katherine May. It's nonfiction, not very long, and truly a book to curl up with as the days get shorter and colder. Thanks again for such a wonderful video, Sarah!
omg yay, thank you!! oooo i was wondering which one by Kingsolver to read next, so prodigal summer is officially on my list! thank you for that and the other rec!! 💕
I also tried to read Born to Run quite a while ago, but I found it a hard read and never finished it. Also if you want to get more enjoyment out of running then just focus on time rather than distance. Start off running for 10 minutes etc. Once you have reached your goal then slowly keep increasing the time and so on, the distance will come.
I just finished The Secret History a few weeks ago and absolutely adored it! I can't stop thinking about it either. Do you have any recommendations for books similar to this?
When you brought up Secret History in your earlier video, I was very curious what would stand out to you the most. For me it was always the way emotional moments would sneak up and bite, rather than announce themselves. It's less manipulative than people give it credit for ... in fact its sincerity might be to a fault, since those emotions spread and get messy at the end rather than adding up neatly. Does that make sense? Now that 31 years have passed and one of Tartt's other books got a dumpster fire of an adaptation, I have my doubts Secret History will ever be put on the screen. But if it is: I hope Bret Easton Ellis writes the screenplay, Paul Schrader directs, the students are played by unknowns, and either Wallace Shawn or Michael Palin plays Julian Morrow.
Born to Run was my first audiobook I downloaded from Audible years and years ago. Absolutely loved it and I even switched to running completely barefoot. Being from NZ and growing up sans shoes this wasn't a big step. Pun intended. A great followup audiobook is Eat & Run by Scott Jurek. My only tip for running when you are new, is slow down. Then slow down some more. You should be able to have a conversation while running. Learn to enjoy the run rather than see it as a chore that needs to be ticked off for the day.
I love your ASMR videos and love your reading recommendations even more! Wondering if you have a Goodreads profile so we can follow you there and keep getting those great ideas for a next read throughout the year? Thanks and loving everything you are doing!
I read priory of the orange tree years ago and I felt the same way. I just didn’t connect as much as I thought I would. It also took me a while to read which isn’t typical for me. However, this author does have a series and it’s amazing. The first book is called the bone season and I highly recommend it!
I like to hear why its important to know how running can be a study. And to see why we can know why will live knowing how to live running with the chance to do it ,with care.
So I’m almost done reading Demon Copperhead… I ordered that and The Poisenwood Bible at the same time and DC came first… so I’ll start TPB next… are you going to do another review… I’m curious your take on the book!
Some really good audiobook recommendations: Code Breaker, My Life with the Chimpanzees, The Daily Coyote, Wild by Cheryl Strayed, and Into the Planet: My Life as a Cave Diver.
"BORN TO RUN" WAS SO GOOD GUYS... if you wanna listen to it too, you can check it out on @audible! Visit Audible.com/SarahL or text "sarahL" to 500-500 to try Audible free for 30 days! I went to look it up and saw two books listed. The second came out in February 2023.
My brother runs 8 miles 4 times a week and he's 72.
Barbara Kingsolver is my absolute favorite and The Poisonwood Bible is fantastic! I can't wait to read this new book.

Just the other day I was rewatching one of your old bookish videos, they are my fave ❤❤❤ Great as always
Love your book reviews, and now I’m definitely reading Born To Run!❤️
Omg your book videos are the best!!

Absolutely living for these ❤
I've been reading "Captain Corelli's Mandolin", which I highly recommend. Perfect for cold winter days.
Don’t mind me, just finishing my biannual rewatch of all of Sarah's book videos. Can't wait for the next one📚
🥰❤️
I found the four agreements to be impactful! I think all spirituality aside they’re just good principles to try to live by!
Your videos make me so happy and relaxed and I get the best tingles from your videos, thank you for all you do ❤

Yes!!!!!! I can’t wait to listen to this after work. ❤️❤️❤️
I’m the person at the book club meeting who waits until Sarah talks about the book, so I can copy her thoughts about it.
Love your book videos! Ms. Barb grew up in Kentucky and lives on a farm in Southwest Virginia now. I’m a native of that area (EKY/SWVA) and found Demon to be an absolute Appalachian masterpiece!
Ohhh man I love me some book triggers with whispers 😴 Sarah you’ve done it again 😎💚💙
I have listened to "The Enchanted April" (from 1922) by Elizabeth von Arnim recently and I recommend both the book and the film! Especially if you are interested in women's history. But it's just a wholesome well-written story of finding love and beauty in the world and a good comfort read. 😊
I loveeee your Book videos so much! ❤ ❤
omg you mentioned gideon the ninth ❤ i love this series, I'm currently reading nona the ninth!!!
I’ve been very interested in reading Demon Copperhead and hearing you talk about it has peaked my curiosity even further so I know what I will be reading and listening to now
11:52 my CS "instructor" used to always come to class "barefoot!" He was a "runner!" I think he read this book!
The Priory of the Orange Tree now has another book! Samantha Shannon released a prequel called A Day of Fallen Night! ❤ I love your book videos so much 😍
Your an amazing old soul and I love it. Keep these videos coming I loved it!

I'm so looking forward to popping in my earbuds and settling in for a great nights sleep after enjoying this video.. Thank you for your dedication to making great ASMR for all of us.😴💜 I appreciate you!

Recommendation(just starting the video) Kafka on the Shore is amazing. Also I’m out sick today and this helped
The Harry Potter audiobooks are absolutely amazing. 💛💜
I love all of your videos but I get so super excited when I see it’s a book one.

I second Wintering by Katherine May, a lovely book
i totally agree about priory, should have been two books! could have gotten to expand on the second half even more
I also tried to read Born to Run quite a while ago, but I found it a hard read and never finished it.

I love book triggers 🥲 when I go too my public library I literally find myself tapping on everything 🤣 people probably wouldn’t know why
Hahaha😂🙌
Omggg another book triggers video yaaayy
When you brought up Secret History in your earlier video, I was very curious what would stand out to you the most. My favourite videos of yours!
I love your ASMR videos and love your reading recommendations even more! Wondering if you have a Goodreads profile so we can follow you there and keep getting those great ideas for a next read throughout the year? Thanks and loving everything you are doing!
I live for your book videos!
For a non-fic audio book, i highly recommend "Acts of Faith" by Eboo Patel. It'll be short but very good and inspiring
I read priory of the orange tree years ago and I felt the same way. I just didn’t connect as much as I thought I would. It also took me a while to read which isn’t typical for me. However, this author does have a series and it’s amazing. The first book is called the bone season and I highly recommend it!
Even though we read different genres, I absolutely love your book videos 📖 💜
i used to be obsessed with reading but i stopped and never picked it back up and now i’m thinking i should read demon copperhead bc it sounds SO good
I'M SO EXCITED TO READ IT 💗 hope you do end up picking it up! :)
